Computational Neuroscience Position

A computational neuroscience postdoc position is available at the Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (https://www.nki.rfmh.org) to work on recently awarded grants from NIH (MPI: Schroeder, Bickel, Neymotin) and ARO (PI: Neymotin). The NIH project aims to investigate the brain's dynamic circuit motifs underlying internal vs. external-oriented processes in the auditory system, using a combination of electrophysiology and biophysical circuit modeling of the thalamocortical system. The ARO project involves developing circuit models of the hippocampus interfaced with virtual agents, and training the agents/models to perform spatial navigation tasks using biologically-inspired learning rules. Dear All, the Daun lab at the University of Cologne / the Research Center Juelich in Germany is seeking a Postdoc to join a project on the computational modeling of the neural processes underlying motor control: Your Job: In comparison to sensory, cognitive, or affective-emotional systems, the motor system’s output is directly quantifiable and comparable across species. When studying the neural mechanisms underlying motor control, behavioral readouts across species offer the potential to overcome one grand challenge in neuroscience: bridging the gap between molecular, cellular, and systems levels. Importantly, the motor system is affected in many, if not all, neurological and psychiatric disorders. Hence, a more comprehensive understanding of the motor system will further our understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying neurological and psychiatric disorders. Likewise, neuropsychiatric diseases allow novel insights into the motor system’s (dys-)function and testing models of motor control. The Humphries’ lab at the University of Nottingham is seeking a postdoc to join a project developing a precision medicine platform for neuromodulation, in collaboration with MachineMedicine Technologies and St George’s Hospital, London. A crucial unmet need in the management of Parkinson’s disease is how to reliably identify patients that would benefit from deep brain stimulation, the most effective treatment for Parkinson’s. The project team will create a machine-learning platform that synthesises wide-ranging personal and clinical data, combined with neural modelling, to predict the suitability of each Parkinson’s disease patient for deep brain stimulation. An exciting opportunity for the pipeline will be integrating computational models of the neural circuits disrupted in Parkinson’s. *Postdoctoral Fellowships inAcquisition, processing and quantitative analysis of neurobiological data* The Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (NeuroMat), hosted by the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, and funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), is offering two post-doctoral fellowships for recent PhDs with outstanding research potential. The fellowship will involve collaborations with research teams and laboratories associated with NeuroMat. The research to be developed by the post-doc fellow shall be strictly related to ongoing research lines developed by the NeuroMat team. The project may be developed at USP (São Paulo or Ribeirão Preto) or at UNICAMP (Campinas). We seek candidates capable of developing independent research in one of the research lines below: 1. Stochastic modeling of neurobiological data. 2. Acquisition, processing and quantitative analysis of electrophysiological data. 3. Development of neurostimulation protocols. Candidates to the first research line are required to have a strong background in probability theory with an emphasis on stochastic processes. Candidates to the second research line are required to have a strong background in neuroscience with previous experience in neurophysiological data acquisition, processing and analysis, and knowledge of computer programming. Candidates to the third research line are required to have a solid background in biomedical instrumentation or medical physics with previous experience in transcranial magnetic stimulation, neuronavigation and knowledge of robotics and computer programming. The initial appointment is for one year, with a possible extension to up to one year, conditional on research progress. Postdoctoral Position at UConn in Systems and Computational Neuroscience

The Physiological Acoustics Lab (http://escabilab.uconn.edu) at the University of Connecticut seeks applicants for a postdoctoral position in systems and computational neuroscience. We are seeking highly motivated and creative applicants that can lead a project on perception and neural coding of speech and vocalizations in the presence of competing natural environmental noises (e.g., restaurant noise, busy street, construction noise etc.). The broad project goal is to study the neural basis for listening in noisy environments and to devise a general computational theory that accounts for perception and physiology. The project will use a variety of experimental approaches including human perception, awake animal electrophysiology, large scale neural recording, and computational modeling. UConn has a vibrant neuroscience community and there are opportunities for collaboration between departments and institutes. TPs will be hosted by a group of two or more researchers (coordinators) who will be invited to stay at OIST for the duration of the TP. Successful proposals will be provided with the financial and administrative support needed to bring participants to OIST, 4-8 of whom are expected to be present at any one time. Where it fits the goals and timeframe of the program, a symposium linked to the program can be hosted at OIST. While the scope of the Thematic Program should be theoretical, a diverse base of participants is encouraged, which may include experimental scientists. 2) Open Call for Visiting Scholars FY2023 https://groups.oist.jp/tsvp/application-visiting-scholars Visiting Scholars have been arriving through the TSVP since March 2022, and now we are starting the call for FY2023 (April 2023-March 2024). Visiting Scholars will have the opportunity to carry out independent research at OIST, and to interact with one or more OIST Research Units during their stay. Visits will usually be of 3 to 12 months, with support provided for travel, accommodation and living expenses at the level of per diem. Several Ph.D. positions at SFU, Vancouver (clinical EEG recordings and medical texts). Several fully-funded Ph.D. positions are available at Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, Canada), at the Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology and the School of Engineering Science. Ph.D. candidates will focus on research in neurophysiology, such as electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG), and machine learning to study clinical populations. One of the large-scale projects is based on an extensive dataset of routine clinical EEG recorded and evaluated in the process of a diagnostic workup at four local public hospitals. The data include EEG scans and corresponding EEG reports (written impressions of the visual analysis of the EEG, which was done by neurologists). One Ph.D. project will use EEG recordings to predict clinically-relevant labels. The other project will apply Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools to develop models for extracting labels from EEG reports. The objective of the new multi-year project is to understand the neural basis of behavior changes in humans/animals. We shall tackle the AI-based image processing technology for capturing body movements and characterizing possible changes in behaviors. We may also develop methods of analyzing neuronal co-activation from large-scale Ca imaging data or capturing brain waves from multichannel ECoG data. We are looking for a young researcher interested in working on one or some of these topics. The contract is yearly-basis and renewable *until March 31, 2027*.
