Dear Colleagues, Due to numerous requests, we have extended the deadline for submitting a paper to the Biological Cybernetics Special Issue: What can Computer Vision learn from Visual Neuroscience? New Submission deadline: November 30, 2022 https://www.springer.com/journal/422/updates/20421374 This special issue invites original research and review articles related to topics in biological vision that can potentially benefit computer vision systems. Computational Neuroscience Position

A computational neuroscience postdoc position is available at the Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (https://www.nki.rfmh.org) to work on recently awarded grants from NIH (MPI: Schroeder, Bickel, Neymotin) and ARO (PI: Neymotin). The NIH project aims to investigate the brain's dynamic circuit motifs underlying internal vs. external-oriented processes in the auditory system, using a combination of electrophysiology and biophysical circuit modeling of the thalamocortical system. The ARO project involves developing circuit models of the hippocampus interfaced with virtual agents, and training the agents/models to perform spatial navigation tasks using biologically-inspired learning rules. Applicants should have a strong background in: multiscale modeling using NEURON/NetPyNE, Python software development, neural data analysis, machine learning, and writing/presenting research. Dear All, the Daun lab at the University of Cologne / the Research Center Juelich in Germany is seeking a Postdoc to join a project on the computational modeling of the neural processes underlying motor control: Your Job: In comparison to sensory, cognitive, or affective-emotional systems, the motor system’s output is directly quantifiable and comparable across species. When studying the neural mechanisms underlying motor control, behavioral readouts across species offer the potential to overcome one grand challenge in neuroscience: bridging the gap between molecular, cellular, and systems levels. Importantly, the motor system is affected in many, if not all, neurological and psychiatric disorders. Hence, a more comprehensive understanding of the motor system will further our understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying neurological and psychiatric disorders. Likewise, neuropsychiatric diseases allow novel insights into the motor system’s (dys-)function and testing models of motor control. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative research center (CRC1451; https://www.crc1451.uni-koeln.de)<https://www.crc1451.uni-koeln.de),/> located at the University of Cologne that brings together neuroscientists investigating neural processes underlying motor control on these different levels in animals and humans, in both health and neuropsychiatric diseases. This includes: * Being part of the Project INF of the CRC1451: Data Management for Computational Modeling (https://www.crc1451.uni-koeln.de/index.php/inf/) Within this project they will be responsible for the development of data-driven, cross-species computational models of motor control which shall be based on the data collected in the individual and central projects of the CRC1451. The Humphries’ lab at the University of Nottingham is seeking a postdoc to join a project developing a precision medicine platform for neuromodulation, in collaboration with MachineMedicine Technologies and St George’s Hospital, London. A crucial unmet need in the management of Parkinson’s disease is how to reliably identify patients that would benefit from deep brain stimulation, the most effective treatment for Parkinson’s. The project team will create a machine-learning platform that synthesises wide-ranging personal and clinical data, combined with neural modelling, to predict the suitability of each Parkinson’s disease patient for deep brain stimulation. An exciting opportunity for the pipeline will be integrating computational models of the neural circuits disrupted in Parkinson’s.
