Postdoc studying episodic memory sampling in Spain

The Universitat Jaume I's Decision & Memory group in Castelló de la Plana, Spain led by Prof. Raphael Kaplan is recruiting a junior postdoctoral researcher(<2 yrs since completing their PhD) to study how the human brain samples different event details/memories when imagining novel scenarios. The candidate will also test if episodic sampling processes can be optimized for learning interventions. Working with Prof. Kaplan and their team, the candidate will be expected to help collect and analyze behavioral, fMRI, and/or iEEG experimental data that test these questions. In parallel, the empirical results will be used to inform quantitative models investigating the same processes in collaboration with other leading international laboratories. The postdoctoral position involves training in behavioral/neuroimaging experimental design, behavioral and neuroimaging analysis, computational modeling, machine learning, manuscript preparation, and grant writing within a highly interdisciplinary research environment. Human performance requires that complex computations are done nearly instantaneously using relatively little power. Inspired by biological systems, neuromorphic computational solutions are poised to dramatically increase the types of computational problems we can answer using energy-efficient approaches. Neuromorphic systems consist of a range of new technologies that mimic brain cells and brain function in their design and implementation of computing hardware, software and algorithms. Distinct from current computing approaches, which are powered by discretized mathematical operations running on digital transistor-based solutions, neuromorphic computing promises leaps forward in both computing power and energy efficiency. The Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Neuromorphic Computing Systems will develop and refine biologically inspired hardware, software, and algorithmic solutions that harness the efficiencies of brain-inspired computing to solve complex problems that would otherwise require prohibitive amounts of classical computing power. Qualifications required include a PhD or equivalent, and post-PhD research experience. The selected applicant will be a recognized leader with an established research program in neuromorphic systems, which can include chip and/or device design, algorithms and sensors. The program will be complementary and collaborative with current strengths in computational neuroscience and neuromorphic computing. Applications Open for the Patagonian School of Sciences: Dynamics of Large-Scale Neural Systems

Applications are now open for the Patagonian School of Science 2026: Dynamics of Large-Scale Neural Systems, which will take place from December 8–19, 2026, at Brazo Huemul, on the northern shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi in Patagonia, Argentina. The school will bring together 20–25 PhD students and postdocs with international researchers to explore how large populations of neurons give rise to behavior. The faculty includes Edvard Moser (2014 Nobel Laureate), Rafael Yuste, Susanne Schreiber, Carina Curto, Nachum Ulanovsky, Soledad Gonzalo Cogno, Christian Machens, Iván Davidovich, Valeria Della Maggiore, Emilio Kropff, and Inés Samengo. The school will combine lectures, student presentations, workshops, discussions, and one-to-one interactions with faculty. Within a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our group. The project investigates the functional role of rhythmic brain activity in early development, following the trajectory from integrating novel information and building visual object representations in infancy towards efficient processing in mature cortical networks. We address this across age groups, using newly developed learning paradigms and by relating EEG to fMRI data through representational similarity analyses. Within the project we collaborate with Rhodri Cusack (Trinity College Dublin, infant awake fMRI) and Radoslaw M. Cichy (Freie Universitaet Berlin, EEG/fMRI fusion). Work on the analyses can start immediately on the basis of first datasets, and there is ample room to bring in your own ideas and research questions. Call for Papers and Demos: NeurIPS 2026 Workshop on Foundation Models for the Brain and Body

We are pleased to announce the second edition of the “Foundation Models for the Brain and Body <https://brainbodyfm-workshop.github.io/>” workshop at NeurIPS 2026 in Sydney, Australia. The workshop brings together researchers at the intersection of biosignals, neuroscience, machine learning, and embodied intelligence. We invite submissions of short papers on novel research in neuroscience, biosignal analysis, machine learning, and embodied AI, with a focus on foundation models and representation learning for neural, physiological, and behavioral data. We also invite interactive demo proposals showcasing novel methods, devices, systems, or applications. We broadly define biosignals as any temporal signal directly or indirectly generated by the brain or body. This includes neural recordings such as EEG, MEG, and multi-electrode arrays; physiological signals such as heart rate, respiration, and EMG; and behavioral signals such as pose, gaze, and movement. Submissions may focus on methods, applications, or theoretical insights that advance our understanding and modeling of neural, physiological, and behavioral signals in humans and animals. We particularly encourage work on scalable foundation models that generalize across tasks, subjects, modalities, or domains. PhD opportunity in Computational Neuroscience at Jülich Research Center for US candidates

Dear all, We have a available a PhD opportunity in Computational Neuroscience at the Jülich Research Center, Germany, for candidates from the USA contingent on a successful grant application. In the context of an existing CRCNS (Collaborative Research in Computational Neuroscience) project between the Allen Institute (PI: Stefan Mihalas) and the Jülich Research Center (PIs: Markus Diesmann and Sacha van Albada), the German ministry BMFTR offers candidates from the USA an opportunity for a ‘Hop-On Fellowship’ to do a PhD at the Jülich Research Center. This entails a grant proposal written by the German partner along with resumes and letters of intent from candidates who have studied or done research in the USA at least for the past three years. The CRCNS project concerns the development of multi-area models of the mouse thalamocortical visual system, bringing together biological fidelity and visual function. To this end, the rich anatomical and physiological datasets from the Allen Institute are combined with expertise on modeling large-scale spiking neural network models from the Jülich partner, and functional properties are incorporated using advanced methods for training neural networks. The closely related PhD project (contingent upon the awarding of the Hop-On Fellowship) will take a top-down approach to enhance the biological realism of a functional model of the mouse visual cortex and gain insight into relationships between cortical structure, dynamics, and function. The candidate would be embedded in the Institute for Advanced Simulation (IAS-6, Computational and Systems Neuroscience, https://www.fz-juelich.de/en/ias/ias-6) at the Jülich Research Center and would have the opportunity to work together with the PIs and postdocs in the USA and Germany. The fellowship covers not only the salary of the PhD candidate but also travel costs to and from Germany. During the PhD, it is possible to work from the USA for up to five months in total (max. two months a year). A contribution to childcare costs in Germany of up to 150 euro a month is also available. Call for Papers: Dendritic Influence on Neuronal Input-Output Transformation Dynamics

We are currently seeking submissions for a *Frontiers in Cellular Neuroscience Research Topic *titled *Dendritic Influence on Neuronal Input-Output Transformation Dynamics*. 1. Manuscript submission deadline is *30 December 2026*. 2. The goal of this Research Topic is to delve deeper into the complex dynamics of neurons, specifically focusing on the properties and functions of dendrites. The aim is to understand how the morphology and biophysical properties of dendrites influence the transformation of synaptic input into action potential output. This includes investigating the impact of dendritic location, timing, strength, and presynaptic origin on this transformation, as well as the role of different input populations in driving observed action potentials. The research also aims to explore how variability in synaptic input and biophysical and morphological properties affects neuronal responses, and how these factors contribute to the overall function and performance of the neural network. To gather further insights into the complex dynamics of neurons and the role of dendrites, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes: • The impact of dendritic location, timing, strength, and presynaptic origin on the transformation of synaptic input into action potential output. • The role of different input populations in driving observed action potentials. • The influence of synaptic input from various sources on neuronal responses. • The effect of variability in synaptic input and biophysical and morphological properties on neuronal responses. • The contribution of these factors to the overall function and performance of the neural network. • The development and application of computational models to study these dynamics and properties. • Linking dendritic dynamics to behavior. • The role of energetics/metabolism in regulating/constraining dendritic function.
