The Multimodal Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory, led by Dr. Runnan Cao at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, invites applications for postdoctoral research associate positions. Our laboratory investigates the neural computations and network-level dynamics underlying visual perception and social cognition in neurotypical individuals and people with neurodevelopmental or psychiatric conditions, including autism and schizophrenia. We combine human intracranial electrophysiology, including iEEG and single-neuron recordings, with high-resolution fMRI, behavioral experiments, and computational modeling to determine how the brain transforms visual input into representations that support social perception and behavior. These positions offer a distinctive opportunity to join a new laboratory at a formative stage. Postdoc studying episodic memory sampling in Spain

The Universitat Jaume I's Decision & Memory group in Castelló de la Plana, Spain led by Prof. Raphael Kaplan is recruiting a junior postdoctoral researcher(<2 yrs since completing their PhD) to study how the human brain samples different event details/memories when imagining novel scenarios. The candidate will also test if episodic sampling processes can be optimized for learning interventions. Working with Prof. Kaplan and their team, the candidate will be expected to help collect and analyze behavioral, fMRI, and/or iEEG experimental data that test these questions. In parallel, the empirical results will be used to inform quantitative models investigating the same processes in collaboration with other leading international laboratories. Human performance requires that complex computations are done nearly instantaneously using relatively little power. Inspired by biological systems, neuromorphic computational solutions are poised to dramatically increase the types of computational problems we can answer using energy-efficient approaches. Neuromorphic systems consist of a range of new technologies that mimic brain cells and brain function in their design and implementation of computing hardware, software and algorithms. Distinct from current computing approaches, which are powered by discretized mathematical operations running on digital transistor-based solutions, neuromorphic computing promises leaps forward in both computing power and energy efficiency. The Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Neuromorphic Computing Systems will develop and refine biologically inspired hardware, software, and algorithmic solutions that harness the efficiencies of brain-inspired computing to solve complex problems that would otherwise require prohibitive amounts of classical computing power. Qualifications required include a PhD or equivalent, and post-PhD research experience. The selected applicant will be a recognized leader with an established research program in neuromorphic systems, which can include chip and/or device design, algorithms and sensors. The program will be complementary and collaborative with current strengths in computational neuroscience and neuromorphic computing. This position offers excellent opportunities for collaboration with experimental neuroscience, experimental and theoretical physics and biomedical and electrical engineering. Applications are now open for the Patagonian School of Science 2026: Dynamics of Large-Scale Neural Systems, which will take place from December 8–19, 2026, at Brazo Huemul, on the northern shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi in Patagonia, Argentina. The school will bring together 20–25 PhD students and postdocs with international researchers to explore how large populations of neurons give rise to behavior. Within a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our group. The project investigates the functional role of rhythmic brain activity in early development, following the trajectory from integrating novel information and building visual object representations in infancy towards efficient processing in mature cortical networks. We address this across age groups, using newly developed learning paradigms and by relating EEG to fMRI data through representational similarity analyses. Within the project we collaborate with Rhodri Cusack (Trinity College Dublin, infant awake fMRI) and Radoslaw M. Cichy (Freie Universitaet Berlin, EEG/fMRI fusion). Work on the analyses can start immediately on the basis of first datasets, and there is ample room to bring in your own ideas and research questions. The workshop brings together researchers at the intersection of biosignals, neuroscience, machine learning, and embodied intelligence. We invite submissions of short papers on novel research in neuroscience, biosignal analysis, machine learning, and embodied AI, with a focus on foundation models and representation learning for neural, physiological, and behavioral data. We also invite interactive demo proposals showcasing novel methods, devices, systems, or applications. We broadly define biosignals as any temporal signal directly or indirectly generated by the brain or body. The CRCNS project concerns the development of multi-area models of the mouse thalamocortical visual system, bringing together biological fidelity and visual function. To this end, the rich anatomical and physiological datasets from the Allen Institute are combined with expertise on modeling large-scale spiking neural network models from the Jülich partner, and functional properties are incorporated using advanced methods for training neural networks. The closely related PhD project (contingent upon the awarding of the Hop-On Fellowship) will take a top-down approach to enhance the biological realism of a functional model of the mouse visual cortex and gain insight into relationships between cortical structure, dynamics, and function. The candidate would be embedded in the Institute for Advanced Simulation (IAS-6, Computational and Systems Neuroscience, https://www.fz-juelich.de/en/ias/ias-6) at the Jülich Research Center and would have the opportunity to work together with the PIs and postdocs in the USA and Germany. One example is when you decide where to have lunch: should you go to the nearby coffee shop or to the university cafeteria? Learning depends on choice, because you can learn which option you prefer by trying each option repeatedly, and decision making depends on learning, because you eventually want to select the option you have learned you like best. Uncertainty plays a key role in both learning1–4 and decision making5, especially when the environment is not stationary (e.g., a new brand now runs the nearby coffee shop and you like it less). In the ANR/CEA-funded BrainSync collaborative project, we are interested in characterizing the neural representations of uncertainty6–8 and value that emerge from learning and guide decisions. Our approach combines deep phenotyping approach and multimodal imaging in the EXPLORE task5. We collected data from 16 participants who participated in one behavioral session, two 7T fMRI sessions, and two MEG sessions. 56 other participants participated in one pupillometry session and one 3T fMRI session. We also plan to record a dataset on our 11.7T MRI, and we have started to collect intracranial EEG data. This large multimodal dataset allows us to estimate and test different computational models of the decision and learning processes. One postdoc is currently working on the MEG and iEEG data, and one PhD student is working on the behavioral and 11.7T data (to be collected). We are looking for another postdoc for the already collected fMRI datasets. The postdocs and PhD student will work together to perform analyses informed by all datasets. *Profile* Ph.D. in neuroscience, machine learning or psychology, with strong programming skills, ideally in Python. Previous experience with ideally fMRI, computational modeling. The emergence of spontaneous activity during cortical development Labs of Geoff Goodhill and Linda Richards Washington University School of Medicine, St Louis We are looking for a Postdoc or Graduate student to analyze and model the emergence of early patterns of spontaneous neural activity in developing cortex. We are interested in questions such as whether functionally distinct areas show common or distinct initial activity patterns, and how these patterns relate to subsequent function. This project is based on data from the dunnart (an Australian marsupial), an animal model which offers unique advantages over rodents for studying early activity since dunnarts are born at a much earlier stage of brain development. Our initial work on this project is described in https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2208654120. We are now using 2-photon imaging of soma-targeted GCaMP8m which offers data with much higher resolution and detail. The postdoc/student will work between the Goodhill and Richards labs, which are both located in a new 60,000 m^2 building dedicated entirely to neuroscience research which opened in 2023. However, our ability to monitor the microcircuitry in living humans is limited, meriting the use of detailed computational simulations to overcome experimental limitations in linking the microcircuit mechanisms with altered cortical activity, functional deficits and biomarkers in clinically-relevant brain signals. This workshop will showcase the latest efforts from leading groups in large-scale neuronal microcircuit modeling of spiking activity and signals such as EEG and MEG. The workshop will present diverse data-driven microcircuit modeling approaches that integrate neuronal, synaptic and functional data, and the different simulation tools used to generate activity and brain signals from the models. The workshop will highlight clinical applications of the models in establishing target mechanisms for treatment, and estimating microcircuit mechanisms from clinical signals in patient data with machine learning to improve diagnosis. This workshop aims to foster the exchange of methods and ideas, and offer new insights on clinical applications of simulated large-scale cortical microcircuits. The A. Mathis Group for Computational Neuroscience and AI (CNAI) is seeking two postdoctoral fellows to join our team working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and neuroscience. Our research is built around three intertwined questions: how to measure and understand behavior with AI, how brains and embodied agents learn to control the body, and how the brain builds a sense of its body through proprioception. We develop widely-used open-source tools (e.g., DeepLabCut), train biomechanically realistic embodied agents (e.g., MuscleMimic, Kinesis, Arnold), and build AI-based models of sensorimotor processing. We are recruiting two postdocs: 1) Postdoc in Computer Vision & AI for Behavior Analysis 2) Postdoc in Embodied AI (Reinforcement Learning for Motor Control) Main duties and responsibilities For both positions: * Conduct innovative, independent research aligned with the lab's mission and the candidate's interests * Contribute to the lab's open-source software, datasets, and benchmarks * Mentor PhD and Master's students and contribute to the lab's collaborative culture * Engage with collaborators across EPFL and beyond (neuroscience labs, ecology partners, clinical collaborators) * Present research at international conferences and workshops Position 1: Computer Vision & AI for Behavior Analysis * Contribute to the creation of behavioral datasets for groups of animals * Develop methods for animal and environment reconstruction * Develop methods for behavior understanding from multi-view video and audio recordings * Advance multimodal large language models for fine-grained action understanding and reasoning * Help shape the next generation of DeepLabCut and related open-source tools used by labs worldwide. Position 2: Embodied AI * Train muscle-actuated, biomechanically realistic agents to perform skilled motor tasks using reinforcement learning, imitation learning, and curriculum methods; * Develop new methods for full-body musculoskeletal control * Probe links between learned control policies and neural representations of movement in collaboration with experimental labs Common requirements: * PhD (completed or close to completion) in computer science, applied mathematics, computational neuroscience, robotics, physics or a closely related field; * Strong publication record in relevant venues; * Solid programming skills in Python and a modern deep-learning framework * Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English; * Self-motivated, collaborative, and committed to open science and reproducible research; * Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
