new MATLAB toolbox for Multivariate Transfer Entropy: MuTE

Dear all, I am very pleased to announce the availability of my brand new MATLAB toolbox to detect directed dynamical influences among time series. This new open source software implements four entropy estimators in both uniform and non-uniform embedding approaches. MuTE can perform analyses running some or all methods in parallel sessions. The user should only set the parameters related to the kind of analysis and the specific method/s chosen to assess the directed dynamical influences. [Apologies for cross-posting] The Center for Interdisciplinary Brain Sciences Research (CIBSR) in the department of Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Research Assistant (Non-Clinical) to help with analyzing large-scale neuroimaging (fMRI/NIRS/EEG) and behavioral datasets from both healthy and patient populations. Responsibilities will include:-Developing software/scripts to implement algorithms for data control, data preprocessing/analysis, database management and coordinating data-sharing initiatives-Developing/running machine learning algorithms to better understand high-dimensional datasets-Assisting in analyzing research data using specific fMRI Neuroimaging programs and/or software (e.g., FSL, AFNI). -Helping with designing and developing novel neuroimaging paradigms for data collection-Collecting new neuroimaging/behavioral data Applicants should have:-B.S. The Functional Brain Mapping (FBM) facility at the Intelligent Systems Research Centre (ISRC), Ulster University, has an available 2-year fixed term Research Assistant in Neuro-imaging Technology post. Duties and responsibilities of the successful postholder will include conducting periodic tests, maintenance of magnetoencephalography (MEG) system, and management of patients while ensuring their safety. S/he will assist with the supervision of health and safety, risk management, and standard operating procedures pertaining to all activities in the FBM facility. SPECIAL ISSUE ON RETINAL MECHANISMS UNDERLYING MOTION PERCEPTION IN VERTEBRATES JOURNAL OF INTEGRATIVE NEUROSCIENCE This call for papers is dedicated to the work of Vaxim Maximov on the general theme of retinal direction selectivity in vertebrates. All papers are welcome that describes neurophysiology and neural modelling of retinal circuitries underlying motion perception. Some suggestions: 1. Can asymmetry be justified based on anatomical studies showing less inhibitory synapses between SAC and DSGC in the null direction? 2. Is endoplasmic reticulum as a source of calcium heterogeneity underlying DS in SAC? 3. Is calcium bias to somatofugal motion due to intrinsic properties of SAC or is calcium bias in centrifugal motion caused by presynaptic delay in glutamate receptor activation induced calcium? 4. Are SACs are connected asymmetrically to DSGCs: those pointing in the null direction deliver inhibition; those pointing in the preferred direction do not? 5. Is intracellular calcium signal and not the membrane potential (voltage) directionally selective? 6. Direction-selective circuitry in the fish visual system – properties of direction selective units in retina and tectum opticum. 7. Properties of direction selective units in accessory optic systems of lower vertebrates. 8. Modeling of receptive fields of retinal detectors underlying motion perception in fish. NSG, an NSF-supported resource, already has GENESIS, MOOSE, NEST, NEURON, PyNN, and the Freesurfer software suite already installed and ready for use.
