However, decades of experimental and theoretical research suggest that dendrites possess compelling computational capabilities that greatly influence neuronal and circuit functions. Notably, standard point-neuron networks cannot adequately capture most hallmark dendritic properties. Meanwhile, biophysically detailed neuron models can be suboptimal for practical applications due to their complexity, and high computational cost. For this reason, we introduce Dendrify, a new theoretical framework combined with an open-source Python package (compatible with Brian2) that facilitates the development of bioinspired SNNs. Dendrify allows the creation of reduced compartmental neuron models with simplified yet biologically relevant dendritic and synaptic integrative properties. The 14th edition of the Rovereto workshop on Concepts, Actions and Objects (CAOs), is taking place at the Center for Mind/Brain Sciences, May 4-6, 2023, in Rovereto, Italy. We are looking for a post-doc to work with us at the Centre de Recherche de Cerveau et Cognition (CerCo) in Toulouse, France. The project will be led by Andrea Alamia and funded by the European Research Council (ERC). Work environment The successful applicant will join the Centre de Recherche de Cerveau et Cognition (CerCo) in a lively research institute in Toulouse, a thriving Southern France city. CerCo is a research center created by the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University Paul Sabatier, composed of over 30 research scientists and around 40 doctoral and post-doctoral students. The applicant will join the NeuroAI team, with a strong focus on computational neuroscience and artificial intelligence. The team has access to different experimental facilities, such as EEG, TMS, and fMRI, as well as computational resources (clusters and local GPUs). The project The project is part of an ERC starting grant investigating the role of oscillatory traveling waves in cognitive functions. Our primary goal is to study neural oscillations within and between cortical regions, as well as cortical-thalamic interactions. Our approach's novelty consists of framing the model in the light of Predictive Coding principles, using a computational approach based on spiking and deep neural networks. We'll compare the results of the simulations against experimental recordings of human participants (mostly EEG) to validate and assess the model's predictions. Requirements · Applicants should hold a PhD in computational neuroscience, computer science, engineering, cognitive science, or similar. · Ability to work independently, developing ideas and interests within the project's scope. · A solid mathematical background and excellent computing skills, including programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python). Experience with system theory, models of cortical circuits, and knowledge of neural oscillations are not strictly necessary but highly appreciated. · Fluent in English in both speaking and writing. Required Qualifications: a PhD degree in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or a related discipline. A strong research background in the analysis and interpretation of neuroimaging data is required. We invite graduate students and postgraduate researchers to participate in the course, held from June 19th through July 6th, 2023 at an oceanfront seminar house of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University. Applications are invited for three PhD student positions at the University of Bern. The positions are funded by a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation which is entitled “Why Spikes?”. This project aims at answering an almost 100 year old question in Neuroscience: “What are spikes good for?”. Indeed, since the discovery of action potentials by Lord Adrian in 1926, it has remained largely unknown what the benefits of spiking neurons are, when compared to analog neurons. Traditionally, it has been argued that spikes are good for long-distance communication or for temporally precise computation. However, there is no systematic study that quantitatively compares the communication as well as the computational benefits of spiking neuron w.r.t analog neurons. The aim of the project is to systematically quantify the benefits of spiking at various levels. The PhD students and post-doc will be supervised by Prof. Jean-Pascal Pfister (Theoretical Neuroscience Group, Department of Physiology, University of Bern). The PhD candidates (resp. post-doc candidate) should hold a Master (resp. PhD) degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computational Neuroscience, Neuroscience or a related field. She/he should have keen interests in developing theories that can be tested experimentally. Preference will be given to candidates with strong mathematical and programming skills. Expertise in stochastic dynamical systems, point processes, control theory and nonlinear Bayesian filtering will be a plus. We are looking for one outstanding Postdoc or PhD to conduct computational neuroscience research in the neurocomputing lab in Rotterdam, The Netherlands (www.neurocomputinglab.com) In addition to a solid foundation in neurobiology (neurons and networks), and biophysics (Hodgkin-Huxley models and ion channel mechanisms), the candidate is expected to feel comfortable with applied mathematics and physics, and to have a penchant for the data sciences (under the many guises of supervised and unsupervised learning). The goal of the project is to engineer data-assimilation pipelines for efficient reconstruction of models of neuronal tissue (“Digital twin” factory). These will be used to produce predictions about disease pathways and the effect of pharmacology on neuronal dynamics. PhD position 'Big Sleep Data'

Hi, We are looking for a PhD candidate (or junior postdoc) combining data science/AI, wearable EEG technology, and big sleep data at the Donders Institute in Nijmegen, NL. The project will focus on (i) developing a database for large datasets of neurophysiological sleep recordings together with multimodal analysis strategies/pipelines, and (ii) integration/fusion of neurophysiological data from different sensors with non-physiological data and annotations. (Apologies for cross posting) * * *NeuroDataShare 2023: Exploring and sharing multi-scale neuroscience data* Sainsbury Wellcome Centre, London, UK http://www.neurodatashare.org Modern experimental neuroscience is producing huge amounts of data at a rapidly increasing pace, with population recordings using multielectrode arrays and imaging and simultaneous behavioural data together with transcriptomics and anatomical reconstructions. While these data are useful to those who obtain them in the original studies, their value is magnified when they are shared in accessible formats with the wider community for use in new studies, and to investigate brain function from different perspectives. To facilitate this, many groups are developing tools, standardised languages and databases to help specify, analyse, visualise and share such data sets. *This meeting will bring together experimentalists, those offering infrastructure solutions for sharing data in neuroscience and those who wish to reuse, reanalyse and gain new insight into publicly available datasets.* The meeting will consist of a *2 day workshop of scientific presentations <http://www.neurodatashare.org/programme.html> (Mon 20th & Tues 21st Feb 2023)* at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre <http://www.neurodatashare.org/directions> from leading neuroscientists who are generating data of different types across multiple scales, who are faced with issues of how to disseminate their output to other researchers. Scientific talks will be complemented by presentations from those developing the infrastructure to standardise and share data, and there will be discussions on the challenges and opportunities of greater data sharing in neuroscience. The second part of the meeting will be a smaller, more focussed *2 day hackathon <http://www.neurodatashare.org/hackathon.html> (Wed 22nd & Thus 23rd Feb 2023)* where PhD students, postdocs and PIs will get hands on demonstrations to get their data into standardised formats, including Neurodata Without Borders <https://www.nwb.org/>, as well as help with sharing the data on the Open Source Brain platform <https://www.v2.opensourcebrain.org/>.
