*Call for Abstracts/Papers* Conference website: https://conference.cs.cityu.edu.hk/icicip/ The 13th International Conference on Intelligent Control and Information Processing (ICICIP2025) will be held in Muscat, Oman, February 6-11, 2025, following the successes of previous events. As the capital of Oman, Muscat is Oman's largest city with a population of over four million people and numerous tourist attractions. ICICIP2025 aims to provide a high-level international forum for scientists, engineers, and educators to present the state of the art of research and applications in related fields. The conference will feature plenary speeches given by world-renowned scholars, regular sessions with broad coverage, special sessions focusing on popular topics, and post-conference workshops/tutorials in the region. Prospective authors are invited to contribute high-quality papers to ICICIP2025. In addition, proposals for special sessions within the technical scopes of the symposium are solicited. Special sessions, to be organized by internationally recognized experts, aim to bring together researchers in special focused topics. Papers submitted for special sessions are to be peer-reviewed with the same criteria used for the contributed papers. Researchers interested in organizing special sessions are invited to submit formal proposals to ICICIP2025. A special session proposal should include the session title, a brief description of the scope and motivation, names, contact information, and brief biographical information on the organizers. Authors are invited to submit abstract only or full-length papers (8 pages maximum) by the submission deadline through the online submission system. Potential organizers are also invited to enlist five or more papers with cohesive topics to form special sessions. The submission of a paper implies that the paper is original and has not been submitted under review or is not copyright-protected elsewhere and will be presented by an author if accepted. All submitted papers will be refereed by experts in the field based on the criteria of originality, significance, quality, and clarity. The authors of accepted papers will have an opportunity to revise their papers and take consideration of the referees' comments and suggestions. All accepted papers will be submitted for inclusion into IEEE Xplore subject to meeting IEEE Xplore's scope and quality requirements. Your responsibilities: - Modeling auditory nerve responses to electrical stimulation and development of neural-model based stimulation strategies for users of auditory neuronal prostheses (cochlear implants) - Developing listening tests to measure performance with novel stimulation strategies in complex listening situations - Statistical analysis of the results - Publication in English-language scientific journals and presentations at conferences - Supervision of student projects, assistance with teaching and with raising external funding. The selected candidate will be nominated for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Neuromorphic Technologies. While efforts to control and align AI are crucial, we must also confront a challenging reality. In the long term, maintaining complete control over intelligence far surpassing our own may prove difficult. We aim to unite human intellect in preparing for a future where superintelligence becomes dominant, ensuring human survival and welfare in this radically altered world. We've termed this preventive field of study "Post-Singularity Symbiosis," we believe there's an urgent need to expand this research area rapidly. The workshop focuses on three key areas: 1. Superintelligence Analysis 2. Superintelligence Guidance 3. Human Enhancement The probability of human survival in the face of potentially existential AI risks remains unknown. However, the smaller this probability, the more crucial our PSS efforts become. For example, even if the baseline chance of human survival is meager, our well-thought-out collective efforts in PSS might sometimes have the potential to improve this probability significantly. In an extreme case, raising a 1% chance to 10% would mean increasing our odds of survival tenfold. The Neurtex Manual Spike Sorting Contest is designed to assess how accurately spike sorting works in human intracranial microwire recordings and offers a $5000 first and other prizes. In the contest, participants are asked to perform spike sorting using any method they choose to identify spiking activity in 120 channels. These channels are a mixture of simulated and real recordings so accuracy can be judged directly for the simulated channels. PhD-Researcher and Lecturer, Neurocomputation of Language, Department of Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence, Tilburg University (1.0 fte, six years) The Neurocomputation of Language (NCL) lab from the Department of Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence (CSAI) at Tilburg University invites applications for a 6-year position. The successful applicant for this position would spend 60% of their time as a PhD student and 40% as a lecturer. The PhD project would be determined by the successful applicant and the lab director but should employ advanced statistical modeling and/or neurocomputational modeling to address one or more of the core themes of the lab: the nature and time course of language comprehension, the neural representation and computation of meaning, and the cortical organization of the language network. The educational tasks of the candidate could include leading practical sessions, grading assignments and exams, and (eventually) supervising thesis students. Requirements * Master’s degree in (computational) cognitive (neuro)science, neurobiology of language, or a related field. If you expect to obtain your degree before August 2024, you are also eligible. * Good knowledge of statistics and machine learning (practical experience with large language models is a plus). * Excellent knowledge of English and good academic writing skills. What we offer * A full-time position. * The selected candidate will receive a contract for six years. * You will receive a temporary employment contract for the duration of 12 months. A 5-year extension is offered upon a positive assessment. After one year your UFO profile will change to PhD Candidate / Lecturer. In the second year your initial education assignment is 40% and your research assignment is 60%. * A minimum gross salary of €3226- per month up to a maximum of € 4036- in the 6th year. For the duration of 12 months, you are entitled to a allowance. The amount is the difference in salary of scale 10 level 0 and scale PR level 0. * A holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% (annually). * Researchers from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary (the 30% tax regulation). The University will apply for such an allowance on their behalf. Note that the 30% rule will be scaled back from 1 January 2024. While conventional MRI sequences provide limited contrast to distinguish between tumor types or between nerve and tumor tissue, diffusion MRI techniques offer the potential for improved pre-surgical assessment. This project is focused on the application of state-of-the-art processing pipelines for diffusion MRI and tractography to provide additional means for neurosurgeons to assess nerve-tumor relationships prior to surgery. In particular, this includes the implementation of diffusion MRI tractography methods tailored to peripheral nerves, high-quality 3D visualizations for presentation and documentation purposes, as well as the implementation of new customized algorithms to cover new analysis objectives. In BILAI, major Austrian players in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are teaming up to work towards Broad AI. As opposed to Narrow AI, which is characterized by task-specific skills, Broad AI seeks to address a wide array of problems, rather than being limited to a single task or domain. To develop its foundations, BILAI employs a Bilateral AI approach, effectively combining sub-symbolic AI (neural networks and machine learning) with symbolic AI (logic, knowledge representation, and reasoning) in various ways. PhD Programme in Theoretical Neuroscience and Machine Learning Deadline: 11 November 2024 The Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit is a leading research centre focused on theoretical neuroscience and machine learning. We study (un)supervised and reinforcement learning in brains and machines; inference, coding and neural dynamics; Bayesian and kernel methods, and deep learning; with applications to the analysis of perceptual processing and cognition, neural data, signal and image processing, machine vision, network data and nonparametric hypothesis testing. The Unit provides a unique opportunity for a critical mass of theoreticians to interact closely with one another and with researchers at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour (SWC), the Centre for Computational Statistics and Machine Learning (CSML) and related UCL departments such as Computer Science; Statistical Science; Artificial Intelligence; the ELLIS Unit at UCL; Neuroscience; and the nearby Alan Turing and Francis Crick Institutes. Our PhD programme provides a rigorous preparation for a research career. Like every year, the workshop brings together computational neuroscience, machine learning, and neuromorphic engineering researchers to present their work and discuss how to translate these findings into a better understanding of neural circuits. The workshop is traditionally online. Topics include artificial and biologically plausible learning algorithms and the dissection of trained spiking circuits toward understanding neural processing.
