*Qualifications*
Applicants must have a Ph.D. at the time of starting work. The start date
can be anytime between July 1, 2024, and January 1, 2025.

Overview
The IV Latin-American Workshop on Computational Neuroscience (LAWCN 2023)
provides an international forum to bring students, academic researchers, and
professionals from diverse backgrounds to present cutting-edge research on
four major topics: Computational Neuroscience, Neuroscience,
Neuroengineering, and Artificial Intelligence. Since the first edition, LAWCN
has contributed to revealing knowledge about the brain in an enthusiastic
atmosphere for sharing ideas, creating networks, and fostering collaboration
among Latin countries and the world. The current edition is organized by the
research group "Grupo de Investigación Tecnologías Emergentes Sostenibles e
Inteligentes GITESI" from the Engineering Faculty of the Institution
University of Envigado (IUE), in collaboration with the Colegio Colombiano de
Neurociencias (COLNE), the most representative association of neuroscience
researchers and students in Colombia. The workshop will take place in the
city of Envigado (Antioquia - Colombia) from November 28 to 30, 2023. This is
the first LAWCN edition outside of Brazil, expanding its presence to Latin
America, seeking to enhance the collaboration network among the countries of
our region but keeping the worldwide approach. Envigado is in the
Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley, close to Medellín, the second-largest
city in Colombia, and the capital of the department of Antioquia. Envigado is
known for maintaining the traditions of the Paisa Region and for its
architecture. It also has one of the highest standards of living in Colombia.
Envigado was recognized recently as one of the UNESCO Global Network of
Learning Cities (UNESCO GNLC).
In keeping with the tradition of the previous edition of this meeting, the IV
LAWCN has four main topics:
A- Computational Neuroscience
B- Neuroscience
C- Neuroengineering
D- Artificial intelligence and related topics.

Prospective authors are invited to contribute to the conference by
electronically submitting papers in English, Portuguese, or Spanish,
according to the model found on the event website. Bests Papers will be
published as a book volume in Springer-Verlag Communications in Computer and
Information Science (CCIS, https://www.springer.com/series/7899; ISSN
1865-0929) series. Also, authors can submit their papers for the Special
Issue “Interdisciplinary Approaches for Human Cognition: Expanding
Perspectives on the Mind” published by the International Journal in
Psychological Research (IJPR;

Special Issue “Engineering/computational methods applied to Psychology and

We have funds for a two-year postdoc on Dravet syndrome modeling.
This is part of an international collaboration between Inria (Bordeaux, Montpellier, Sophia Antipolis, France) and BCAM - the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (Bilbao, Spain), involving Fabien Campillo <https://www-sop.inria.fr/members/Fabien.Campillo/index.html>, Pierre Del Moral <https://people.bordeaux.inria.fr/pierre.delmoral/>, Mathieu Desroches <https://www-sop.inria.fr/members/Mathieu.Desroches/> and Serafim Rodrigues <https://www.bcamath.org/en/research/areas/m3a/mcen>. The postdoc will be based at Inria, in Montpellier.
The aim of the project is to develop a multiscale model of Dravet syndrome, from ionic channels of interacting neurons to large neural populations. We will use various modeling frameworks, adapted to the scale, from piecewise-deterministic Markov processes to mean-field formalism. The postdoc will perform a mathematical analysis of the models, extensive numerical simulations as well as data analysis using neural recordings from our experimental partners.
Regarding profiles that we are seeking, familiarity of the candidate with mathematical modeling in Neuroscience and Markov processes. Ability and willingness to do programming, as well as analyse experimental data, will also be a strong point to select candidates.

The Department of Sensory and Sensorimotor Systems (PI Prof. Li Zhaoping) at
the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics and at the University of
Tübingen is currently looking for highly skilled and motivated individuals
to work on projects aimed towards understanding visual attentional and
perceptual processes using fMRI/MRI, TMS, EEG/MEG, and other relevant

The projects can involve, for example, visual search tasks, stereo vision

Postdoctoral Position at Stevens in Multiphysics Brain Aging Modeling

Hello everyone.
A postdoctoral position in “Multiphysics Brain Aging Modeling” is available in the group of Prof. Johannes Weickenmeier at Stevens Institute of Technology right outside New York City (www.weickenmeierlab.com<http://www.weickenmeierlab.com/>).
The Soft Matter Biomechanics Lab combines experimental methods to biomechanically characterize brain tissue properties and various computational modeling techniques (e.g. finite element analysis, multiphysics modeling, medical image analysis) with the ultimate goal to better understand healthy brain aging and neurodegenerative diseases. Our constitutive aging and Alzheimer’s disease models couple neurobiology and mechanics (i.e. morphological shape changes and tissue loading) in order to identify abnormal aging patterns and brain regions at risk of developing secondary damage, such as white matter hyperintensities, hypoperfusion, traumatic injury, and vascular degeneration. We validate our models against longitudinal imaging data from databases such as the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI).
We are looking for applications with prior experience in advanced medical image analysis, data analysis, and modeling. Knowledge in the biology of aging is a significant advantage.
The research will be performed at the campus of Stevens Institute of Technology right outside of New York. The position is funded through a grant from the NIH.

We are currently looking for a self-driven and enthusiastic postdoctoral
fellow to join our team at the Cajal Institute, which is part of the
Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Spain. Our
research is centered around studying the *malfunctioning of neuronal
circuits in Parkinson's disease*, with a particular focus on understanding
the molecular and circuit disruptions that occur during the development of
Parkinsonian symptoms in an animal model developed at the Dr. Rosario
Moratalla lab.
We are specifically seeking an individual with prior experience in
optogenetics, electrophysiology or calcium imaging on freely moving
animals. While expertise in neurodegenerative diseases is desirable, it is

Learn to use International Brain Lab data at SfN 2023

released by the International Brain Laboratory (

own hypotheses!
At the Society for Neuroscience meeting this year, we will host a workshop
for anyone interested in learning to use the data. During this tutorial we
will teach you to search and download datasets, do basic analyses, and give
tips for more advanced computation. We will also demonstrate how to upload
your analysis results to our visualization website. Bring your laptop to
work along with the demonstration. Participation is free, but registration

postdoc at SISSA: How come my tongue got stuck?

New research in our limbo group (Ryom and Treves, Phys Rev X Life, 2023, and unpublished) and extensive data on language parameters collected by Longobardi and collaborators (Ceolin et al, Phil Trans Roy Soc B, 2021) suggest that language diversity may reflect the disordered freezing dynamics that in a spin glass leads to a multiplicity of ground states. In a simplified model, vectors of binary syntactic parameters interact via strong asymmetric logical implications and weak partly symmetric influences, which can produce critical slowing down through a novel mechanism of percolated freezing.
A postdoc position is available at SISSA, in Trieste, to carry this project further into uncharted territory, see https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.03152. Whatever their background, candidates should be keen to develop new mathematical and computational statistical approaches to evolutionary neuro-linguistics and enjoy learning about issues and narratives in scientific communities other than their own. After the hiatus of the pandemic, I am pleased to announce that the 9th
edition of the Latin American School on Computational Neuroscience (LASCON
2024) will take place January 8 - February 2, 2024 at the NeuroMat Center
in the University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
LASCON aims at introducing young researchers and graduate and advanced
undergraduate students to the use of computational and mathematical methods
for modeling neurons and neural networks. The following topics will be
covered: single-cell models (biophysically detailed, reduced and
simplified), circuit and network models of biophysically detailed and
simplified spiking neurons, probabilistic neuronal models, synaptic
plasticity and learning, spike train analysis, neural population models,
neuron-glia interaction models, models of extracellular fields, brain
criticality, computational psychiatry, traveling waves in neural systems,
and dynamics of neuronal functional connectivity. These subjects will be
taught via theoretical classes and hands-on tutorials with the use of the
programs NEURON, NetPyNE, NEST, Brian, The Virtual Brain and others.
Students will have to work on small research projects (to be done in groups
of two), which they will present orally at the end of the school.

In the selection procedure, priority will be given to Latin-American
