NIH Workshop: Insights Into Cognitive And Neural Function Through Eye Tracking

Topic: Upcoming NIH Workshop: Insights Into Cognitive And Neural Function Through Eye Tracking The Center for Multimodal Neuroimaging (CMN; cmn.nimh.nih.gov) and the fMRI Core Facility (FMRIF; fmrif.nimh.nih.gov) are proud to announce our upcoming workshop September 4-5 on “Insights Into Cognitive And Neural Function Through Eye Tracking”. The workshop brings together ten experts (8 extramural, 2 intramural) linking together eye tracking and cognition. An introduction to the workshop will be provided by Dr. Chris Baker. On Wednesday, September 4th, speakers will present their research into theory and methods from 9am – 5pm, full schedule available soon. On September 5th, the speakers will take part in a roundtable specifically tailored to NIH trainees from 9am – 12pm (noon). This is an ideal opportunity for trainees to connect with experts and get advice on training and career development. The workshop will be held on the NIH Bethesda campus in Building 40 and simultaneously streamed on zoom. Recordings will be available later on NIH VideoCast and YouTube. PhD position available At the Institute of Advanced Simulation (IAS-6) at the Research Center Juelich a PhD position is available in the field of Computational Neuroscience to investigate cross-area interactions in the visuo-motor pathway of non-human primates during a visually guided motor task. The data are provided by our experimental partners at INT, CNRS, Marseille. Simultaneous electrophysiological recordings by multiple Utah electrode arrays implanted in V1, V2, V4, 7a, DP and M1 will be studied driven by predictions from theory and network modeling to gain a mechanistic understanding of cross-area interaction signatures. The project is embedded in the interdisciplinary work program of the IAS-6 (www.csn.fz-juelich.de <http://www.csn.fz-juelich.de/>) with experts from network modeling, analytical theory, data analytics, AI and neuromorphic computing. Applicants should have a background in computational neuroscience, physics, mathematics, or a related field. Solid skills of math and programming (preferably Python) are required. Its goal is to annotate participant experience and behavior as well as the environmental influence during an experiment. Thus, HED is relevant to all neuroimaging modalities as well as behavioral experiments and MOBI experiments (motion capture, eye-tracking etc.). Open Ph.D Position in Computational Neuroscience: Neural Representation of Affective States

The Laboratory for Integrative Neuroscience Analyses (LINA), directed by Dr. Christian O’Reilly, is looking to fill an open Ph.D. position in Computational Neuroscience. This position will be fully funded for its first two years by a Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) on an NSF project titled “Neural representation of affective states during narrative listening across the lifespan”. The extension of the funding will depend on grant renewal. The preferred starting date is on May 16th, 2025. The project: This project investigates the representations of affect (valence and arousal) across brain regions and frequencies from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) as a function of age and sex. This project aims to 1) map fMRI activations associated with affect during narrative listening; 2) take advantage of the high temporal resolution of EEG to refine our understanding of the spectral property of affect encoding; 3) develop a model of affect to uncover the mechanisms and causal relationships in the affective neural networks. The students selected for this position will concentrate mostly on the two last aims (EEG analyses and modeling of causal relationships) but will collaborate with the teams on every aspect of the project. ICICIP2025 aims to provide a high-level international forum for scientists, engineers, and educators to present the state of the art of research and applications in related fields. The conference will feature plenary speeches given by world-renowned scholars, regular sessions with broad coverage, special sessions focusing on popular topics, and post-conference workshops/tutorials in the region. Post Doc in machine learning for biomedical time series and sleep, Aarhus University

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher familiar with machine learning, ideally neural networks implemented with pytorch, to work on unsupervised transfer learning for biomedical time series. In our group, 'Biomedical Machine Learning' (BIML) at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aarhus University, we have recently begun developing a new method for unsupervised transfer learning, which we have been testing on wearable EEG data (we are closely connected with the Center for ear-EEG). The results are very promising, though there exist multiple challenges still before we have realized the method's full potential. We are now looking to fill a 1-year post doc position to continue this work. Work is on-going to secure additional funding for extending the position further. The primary requirement for the candidate is familiarity with deep learning (ideally the pytorch framework), though experience with transfer learning, or EEG data, or sleep monitoring, is a plus. The SAMP lab explores brain organization and experience-dependent plasticity by studying people born blind, deaf, or without hands, using behavioral, computational, and fMRI state-of-the-art analytical techniques. The successful applicant will work on the topic of motor plasticity in people born without hands. Specifically, the project will test how people born without hands engage the motor hierarchy to perform everyday actions with their feet. A large dataset has already been collected to address these questions, and additional data can be collected. PhD position in Göttingen: Optogenetics in the Retina and Computational Neuroscience

A PhD position is available in the lab of Tim Gollisch at the University Medical Center Göttingen, Germany. The PhD project will investigate how optogenetics can be used for vision restoration therapy to treat blindness. The work will involve multielectrode arrays to record spiking activity from isolated retinas of mice that express light-sensitive ion channels in different cell types of the retina. Furthermore, computational tools will be used for model-driven data analysis and assessment of neural coding under optogenetic stimulation. Prior experience with electrophysiology or computational analyses/computer programming will be considered advantageous for the application. The project is part of the newly founded Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Optogenetic Therapies (https://ekfz.uni-goettingen.de/) and will contribute to bringing optogenetic vision restoration towards clinical trials and patient treatment. Furthermore, the research group is embedded in the strong and lively neuroscience research community of Göttingen, including the university, several Max Planck Institutes, the German Primate Center, and the European Neuroscience Institute.
