Strategic Hiring Initiative: Neuroinformatics Cluster Hire The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is announcing a major university-wide Strategic Hiring Initiative to hire 3 full-time tenure-track faculty positions at all levels (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor) in the area of Neuroinformatics that lies at the critical intersection of computational neuroscience, computer science, and information science with a primary focus on understanding the function of the brain in disease and health. In this talk I discuss the surprising and compelling variety of tasks and styles of reasoning that are well-suited to descriptions using a specific VSA. These tasks include path integration, navigation, Bayesian reasoning, sampling, memorization, and logical inference. The resulting spiking neural network models capture various hippocampal cell types (grid, place, border, etc.), behavioural errors, and a variety of observed neural dynamics. *About VVTNS : Launched as the World Wide Theoretical Neuroscience Seminar (WWTNS) in November 2020 and renamed in homage to Carl van Vreeswijk in Memoriam (April 20, 2022), Speakers have the occasion to talk about theoretical aspects of their work which cannot be discussed in a setting where the majority of the audience consists of experimentalists. Dear colleagues, You are invited to submit a paper to DECIDE 2025 Special Session<https://biostec.scitevents.org/DECIDE.aspx> hosted by the BIOSIGNALS 2025<https://biosignals.scitevents.org/Home.aspx> conference to be held on 20-22 February 2025 in Porto, Portugal Title: Data- and Theory-Driven Approaches in Personalized Brain Medicine: from Diagnosis to Treatment (DECIDE) Scope: Deciding the right diagnosis, the best treatment and predicting the evolution of the disease is of paramount importance in personalized medicine. Diseases are dynamic and very heterogeneous. Etiologies are complex and often several hypotheses are needed to explain their pathogenesis. This is because studies carried out isolate the effects of a single mechanism and not the interaction of many mechanisms. This leads to a set of conflicting results difficult to interpret. Data-driven (ML/DL) and theory driven (Dynamical models) approaches dealing with diverse data are increasingly used in medicine. Bridging the gap between data- and theory-driven approaches is the central theme of the special session. Real progress in personalized medicine can only be made via such cross-disciplinary interactions. Dear colleagues, [All details about this school can be found online at https://www.nengo.ai/summer-school] The Centre for Theoretical Neuroscience at the University of Waterloo is excited to announce our 10th annual Nengo summer school on large-scale brain modelling and neuromorphic computing. This two-week school will teach participants to use the Nengo simulation package to build state-of-the-art cognitive and neural models to run both in simulation and on neuromorphic hardware. Summer school participants will be given on-site access to neuromorphic hardware and will learn to run high-level applications using Nengo! More generally, Nengo provides users with a versatile and powerful environment for designing cognitive and neural systems and has been used to build what is currently the world's largest functional brain model, Spaun, which includes spiking deep learning, reinforcement learning, adaptive motor control, and cognitive control networks.
