NIH-funded Postdoc / Software Engineer position to work on tool for multiscale modeling of brain circuits

A Postdoc or Software Engineer position is available at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center (Brooklyn, New York) to develop and disseminate NetPyNE, a tool for data-driven multiscale modeling of brain circuits. The position is funded by a recently awarded 5-year NIH grant. The successful candidate would be a salaried employee of the University with a competitive remuneration and benefits package. The position is initially for 1 year with renewal of up to 5 years. The new professor is expected to cover the field of Computational Cognitive Science both in research and teaching, specifically connecting modern data-driven and computational methods for the modeling and simulation of cognitive processes and their applications to human-computer interaction. The position is one of four new professorships that are established at the University of Stuttgart through the DFG Cluster of Excellence EXC 2075 "Data-driven Simulation Science (SimTech)". The professor will be jointly appointed at the Stuttgart Center of Simulation Science and the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and linked closely to the Human-Computer Interaction and Cognitive Systems group. We are looking for an ambitious scientist with international standing who will advance the field of Computational Cognitive Science and its respective foundations in Cognitive Science and Computer Science in close interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers from science and engineering as well as from the humanities and the social sciences. Post doc position in ERC-funded project "Action Selection under Threat", involving VR, behavioural experiments and modelling, wearable magnetoencephalography Location: University College London (UK), Institute of Neurology, Max-Planck/UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research and Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging Project lead: Dominik R Bach is a principal research fellow at UCL The project will look at the cognitive-computational control of motor behaviour under acute, immediate threat. We will set up an immersive virtual reality (VR) environment, in which people can move to avoid various threats. We will record people's behaviour using optical and video tracking, and use machine-learning to structure motor trajectories. Scenarios will then be tweaked to expose limitations of the psychological or computational mechanisms that govern behaviour. Finally, we will use wearable magnetoencephalography (OPMs) at the WCHN to investigate the neural basis of these algorithms. We are currently looking for candidates with a PhD in cognitive-computational (neuro)science, applied machine-learning, biomechanics, motor science, or a quantitative field of psychology (e.g. vision, perception, behavioural economics), or similar. Postdoc Position in Biomedical Deep Learning, Drexel University

I have an immediate opening for a post-doctoral fellow to engage in a federally-funded multi-year project in biomedical deep learning. My research group at Drexel University focuses on developing state-of-the art deep learning-based algorithms and applying them to a wide range of problems. Ongoing projects are: * Design of novel and application of existing cutting-edge natural language processing (NLP) models (e.g. Transformer, BERT, GPT-2, XLNet) for biomedical information retrieval and text summarization. This is an unprecedented opportunity to harness unstructured information from millions of documents, use this information to guide generic drug product development. * Development of novel and application of existing deep generative models (e.g. GANs, VAEs) to explain the high-dimensional structure and time course of neural population activity. The focus is on the extraction of low-dimensional temporal patterns in high-dimensional spiking and local field potentials datasets in visual attention and working memory tasks, and the development of new tools for causal inference (e.g. copula Granger-causality). The ideal candidate should have, or be about to receive, a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline with substantial computational experience (especially in deep learning/NLP). Programming skills in Python and/or Julia are essential. Knowledge of state-of-the-art NLP/text mining methods and/or deep learning frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch) is advantageous but not required. Professor Aaron Seitz in the Department of Psychology at UC Riverside has several openings for graduate students. Students can work in one or both of the Perception and Learning lab and the Brain Game Center. The Perception and Learning lab conducts basic research on perception, learning and memory using a variety of approaches including advanced Psychophysics, EEG, fMRI, and computational methodologies. The UCR Brain Game Center for Mental Fitness and Well-being is a unique research unit that focuses on translational psychology and neuroscience work where we exploit the potential of consumer technologies to conduct research at large scale. This involves running hundreds to many thousands of participants on research studies designed to develop better measurements of perceptual and cognitive abilities as well as new training tools for these skills. To date we have developed numerous approaches addressing vision, hearing, working memory, executive function, and fluid intellige! nce. Post-Doctoral Position to Research Factors That Influence Cognitive Training Outcomes at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, UC Riverside and UC Irvine

Shawn Green (UW-Madison), Aaron Seitz (UC-Riverside) and Susanne Jaeggi (UC-Irvine) are seeking to hire a post-doctoral researcher to work on a project funded by the National Institute of Aging. The project is focused on investigating features of cognitive training that differentially lead to learning and transfer of learning in both young adults (college-aged individuals) as well as in older adults. The post-doctoral researcher is expected to take a lead role in the project, including setting up experiments, collecting and analyzing data, training and supervision of graduate students and undergraduate research assistants, and dissemination of results at conferences and in research publications. Successful candidates should have strong technical skills, including in data analysis (R preferred), management skills, creativity and a high-level of conscientiousness, as these are required to play a lead role in this sizeable project. They should also have expertise in one or more of the following areas (and knowledge of the others): working memory, cognitive training, perceptual learning, and methods of assessing individual differences and effects of interventional studies. Experience in programming psychophysical experiments, in either MATLAB or Python, is preferred. Researchers must possess a doctoral degree in Psychology, Education, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, or a related field. The primary appointment will be at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Learning and Transfer Lab of C.
