CAMP at Bangalore 2020 Course application deadline extended

Dear Colleagues, The deadline to apply for CAMP at Bangalore 2020 has been extended till *March 10*. The course runs from 29 June 2020 to 14 July 2020. CAMP (Computational Approaches to Memory and Plasticity at NCBS, Bangalore) is a 16-day summer school where students will be trained in theoretical and computational modeling, pertaining to memory and plasticity in the brain, spanning different scales of space, time and complexity. This flavor of CAMP will focus on — *Hippocampus beyond Space, and Dimensionality & Manifolds*. The course will have lectures, hands-on tutorials, and project work to launch students into the exciting field of computational neuroscience. The course is supported by the Simons Foundation. Students worldwide are encouraged to apply. Accommodation and food will be free for the selected students. There is no registration fee. Students are advised to obtain independent travel grants. Scientist I/II - Computational Studies of Cortical Circuits The Allen Institute for Brain Science is seeking exceptional candidates for a position of Scientist in our Seattle-based, multidisciplinary organization. The Scientist will join the computational team of Anton Arkhipov and will focus on data analysis and modeling of structure, activity, and computations in mouse cortical circuits. Our computational team collaborates closely with experimentalists to build systematic classifications of structure and function of the mouse visual cortex based on high-throughput recordings in vitro (e.g., http://celltypes.brain-map.org and Gouwens et al., Nature Neurosci., 2019) and in vivo (e.g., https://portal.brain-map.org/explore/circuits and Siegle et al., bioRxiv 805010, 2019). Using systematically constructed models of neurons from diverse types (Gouwens et al., Nature Comm., 2018), we are building and simulating data-driven, highly realistic models of the mouse visual cortex (Arkhipov et al., PLOS Comp. Job Responsibilities: * Collaborate with in-house experimentalists to analyze data from Neuropixels electrophysiology and/or 2-photon calcium imaging in the mouse brain, as well as electron microscopy connectomics. * Use these data to build and simulate models of cortical circuits, in order to study mechanisms connecting circuit structure and function. * Publish/present findings in peer-reviewed journals/scientific conferences. Required Qualifications: * PhD degree in Neuroscience, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related fields. * Strong publication record. PhD Position in Multilingualism/Psycholinguistics

With the launch of a new ‘NCCR Evolving Language’ (http://www.snf.ch/SiteCollectionDocuments/nfs/Faktenblatt_NCCR_evolvinglang…) which involves nearly 40 different research groups from a large variety of disciplines across Switzerland, we seek to fill a PhD position for a four-year project starting in May 2020, or at the selected candidate’s convenience. Our goal is to make progress in understanding language giftedness from cognitive, psychological and neural perspectives. To this end, we plan to carry out a set of studies involving both behavioral measures of cognitive and language-related abilities (e.g. auditory/perceptual abilities, phonemic perception and production, inductive learning, working memory etc) and brain imaging measures (fMRI and sMRI). The research group involves two PIs (Golestani, Geneva; and Berthele, Fribourg) and a postdoc. Data will be collected with Francophone (mono- and multilingual) subjects. Applicants should hold an MA degree in psychology, linguistics or a related field (e.g. psycholinguistics, applied linguistics, multillingualism), have a good command French and English and have strong quantitative research and statistics skills. Additional mastery of German and experience with neuroimaging techniques would be a strong advantage. The NCCR places great emphasis on gender diversity and we particularly encourage women to apply.
