Modellers Workshop for the Brain Dynamics Toolbox This online course is for researchers who wish to simulate user-defined dynamical models using the Brain Dynamics Toolbox (bdtoolbox.org<http://bdtoolbox.org>). The toolbox allows the dynamics of any model to be explored interactively with minimal programming effort. Video lectures guide the student through every step of the process with a practical focus on the art of programming differential equations. Topics include Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Delay Differential Equations, Stochastic Differential Equations, Auxiliary Plot Functions and command-line tools. The University of Magdeburg offers a 3-years postdoc position to study single cell recordings in humans, performed in epileptic patients for curative surgery. The project will investigate concept cells (a.k.a. Jennifer Aniston neurons) – that means, neurons in the hippocampus and surrounding areas that selectively fire to specific concepts, like different pictures and the written or spoken name of a particular person (e.g. Quian Quiroga et al, Nature 2005; Quian Quiroga, Cell 2019), which are involved in declarative memory functions. This is an exciting opportunity to work on brain imaging studies of cognitive function and dysfunction, cognitive development and learning disabilities. The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of research in the lab, including: acquisition and analysis of functional and structural brain imaging data, assembling, administering, and scoring neuropsychological assessments, screening and recruiting participants, obtaining informed consent, scheduling participants for testing, tracking progress of the study and behavioral data, verifying data and entering pertinent information into database for statistical analysis, conducting statistical analyses, and assisting with manuscript preparation. Please note many sessions with research participants will take place on the weekends, and occasionally in the evenings. A minimum commitment of two years is required. Qualifications Requires a BS/BA degree in psychology, human biology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering or related fields as well as one to two years of research experience. A strong academic record is essential. Past research experience in cognitive neuroscience is highly desirable. Experience with any of the following would be an added advantage: brain imaging data acquisition, MRI data analysis, neuropsychological assessments, computer programming, MATLAB, signal processing, and statistical analysis. Description: We have an opening for a joint two-year postdoctoral position at the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University and the Social Science Research Institute, Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, and Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University (with the possibility of renewal for a third year). The postdoc can be employed through any of these departments in either University, depending on their preference. The candidate is expected to live in either Pittsburgh or Durham depending on their chosen home department, but will be asked to travel occasionally to the other location. The focus of the position is on conducting impactful research on moral artificial intelligence, addressing problems such as: Designing artificial intelligence systems to model and predict human moral judgments Designing effective elicitation mechanisms and interfaces to capture moral preferences Developing techniques for implementing and evaluating AI systems that are based on these modeled preferences, and assessing the dynamic impact of these systems on the preferences and behavior of users who interact with them Qualifications: Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, mathematics, computational neuroscience, computational cognitive science, or related technical fields and have expertise in Machine Learning and AI / statistics / data science. Postdoc/Engineering position at the Cleveland Clinic in Brain-Machine Interfacing/Neural Interfacing

*Postdoctoral/Engineering Position in* *Brain-Machine Interfacing / Neural Interfacing* *at The Cleveland Clinic* We are seeking outstanding postdoctoral candidates and/or engineers for research in brain-machine interfacing and restoration of sensorimotor function via electrical stimulation of the nervous system. We have multiple ongoing projects applicants could get involved with spanning BMI-controlled neuroprosthetics, deep brain stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, and intracortical microstimulation. Our primary project is an NIH R01-funded project that is part of a larger government funded clinical trial (ReHAB: *Re*connecting the *H*and and *A*rm to the *B*rain) to restore arm function to paralyzed individuals by using their intracortical brain signals to control peripheral nerve stimulators that reanimate their paralyzed muscles. The specific focus of this five-year NIH-funded project (PIs: *Drs. Dawn Taylor* and *Bolu Ajiboye*) is to improve brain-controlled limb movements by more effectively modulating limb stiffness (i.e. degree of co-contraction of antagonist muscle) to improve limb stability while also minimizing muscle fatigue. Additionally, we have new funding for restoring proprioception via intracortical microstimulation in area 3a in animal models. We also are conducting research into improving deep brain stimulation and alternative peripheral neurostimulation therapies for Parkinson’s’ disease. Research activities include working with animal models and humans as well as neural and biomechanical simulations. Ideal candidates will have experience/familiarity in some or all of the following: intracortical recordings in animals, non-human primates and/or humans; cortical and/or peripheral nerve stimulation for restoration of movement and sensation; real-time neural signal processing; writing custom programs to control multiple pieces of hardware and control objects in a virtual environment (matlab skills preferred); computational or biomechanical modeling. An advanced degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Neurosciences is preferred but other applicants will be considered.
