Dear all, It’s our pleasure to announce the Graduate Summer School on Computational Decision Sciences (GSS-CDS<https://center-decision-sciences.com/cds-graduate-school-2026/>)––the second edition of the summer school at the Centre for Decision Sciences, Royal Holloway, University of London. What GSS-CDS will bring together an interdisciplinary audience tackling decision making in different scientific fields (see Program<https://center-decision-sciences.com/program-2026/>). The focus is on mathematical and computational modelling, integrating concepts and methods from mathematical psychology, computational psychiatry, computational neuroscience, computational social sciences, machine learning, and cultural evolution. Attendees will benefit from talks from leading researchers and practical hands-on sessions. Attendees will also have the opportunity to receive career advice during social networking events and reflect critically about research practices in EDI sessions. The postdoctoral researcher will lead a pioneering research to test the efficacy and safety of spinal cord stimulation and deep brain stimulation to improve motor and cognitive function for children with Cerebral Palsy. This role involves: - Leading first-in-human clinical trials - Design and conduct human electrophysiology experiments - Develop computational modeling of neural networks to investigate the mechanisms underlying neurostimulation. Remarkably high turnover rates in neural connectivity have been observed under baseline conditions, and these rates increase even more significantly in response to stimulation or perturbation. However, little is known about the underlying molecular mechanisms and biological function of this drastic form of brain plasticity. Since direct experiments on connectivity at the synaptic level are notoriously difficult to conduct and analyze, formal models are crucial for predicting and understanding the emergent properties of networks (or graphs) with highly dynamic structures. Building on our previous work on homeostatic structural plasticity, we have developed a new model of self-organizing networks based on the “directed configuration model.” It exhibits Hebbian plasticity (“neurons that fire together wire together”) and engram formation without specific molecular mechanisms. I will also discuss possible connections with psychological phenomena such as classical conditioning, extinction, and blocking, and describe new machine learning strategies based on self-organizing networks that can be derived from our biologically motivated theory. *About VVTNS : Launched as the World Wide Theoretical Neuroscience Seminar (WWTNS) in November 2020 and renamed in homage to Carl van Vreeswijk in Memoriam (April 20, 2022), Speakers have the occasion to talk about theoretical aspects of their work which cannot be discussed in a setting where the majority of the audience consists of experimentalists. This workshop will take place on June 22nd from 12 - 3 PM (EDT) on Zoom. HNN is a user-friendly software tool for interpreting the cell and circuit level origin of human MEG and EEG signals (Neymotin et al 2020, https://hnn.brown.edu/) We will go over the basics of HNN, simulating and optimizing ERPs.
