[Call for Abstracts] Workshop Ethics and Politics of Artificial Intelligence 2 July 2026 | 10h00-17h00 | Casa dos Livros (Palacete Burmester - Rua do Campo Alegre, 1055, 4150-181 Porto - Portugal) The Workshop: Ethics and Politics of AI brings together researchers, academics, and graduate students to examine central ethical and political questions raised by contemporary artificial intelligence. The workshop welcomes contributions from moral and political philosophy, philosophy of technology, applied ethics, law, social theory, and related interdisciplinary fields. Its aim is to promote focused discussion on the institutional, normative, and democratic challenges created by AI systems in contemporary societies. Graduate student and postdoctoral positions available in the Active Perception Laboratory at UR

Graduate student and postdoctoral positions are available in the Active Perception Laboratory (http://aplab.bcs.rochester.edu) at the University of Rochester to study the perceptual consequences of eye movements under the supervision of Dr. Martina Poletti and/or Dr. Michele Rucci. We are particularly interested in recruiting candidates interested in investigating the roles of eye movements in establishing spatial representations, the spatiotemporal dynamics of foveal and extrafoveal processing, the interplay between eye movements, retinal anatomy, and attention, and the possible roles of eye movements in emmetropization and myopia. Research in the laboratory focuses on the interaction between vision and behavior. Our work relies on the integration of theoretical and experimental approaches to investigate how visual functions unfold in the presence of normal and abnormal motor activity, how vision guides behavior, and how changes in visual input signals and modulations associated with behavior contribute to perception. The laboratory is equipped with a unique array of tools, many developed in-house, to investigate the synergy between visual, motor, and cognitive processes (https://aplab.bcs.rochester.edu/facilities.html#<https://aplab.bcs.rochester.edu/facilities.html>). Approaches include human psychophysics with precisely controlled retinal stimulation, computational modeling, precise measurements of head and eye movements, high-resolution retinal imaging, and electroencephalography (EEG) during active vision. The ideal candidate would have a strong interest in vision science, a background in related areas, and experience with data analysis and computer programming. Prior experience in eye-tracking, psychophysics, computational modeling, signal processing, and/or electroencephalography is a plus. In this talk, I will discuss how cortical circuits organize neural activity and connectivity across spatial scales, from local microcircuits to distributed cortex-wide networks. Using naturalistic multidirectional reaching in mice, combined with large-scale calcium imaging and causal connectivity mapping of >20,000,000 neuronal pairs, we identified connectivity motifs and population dynamics underlying goal-directed behavior. I will first describe the organizational principles of the motor cortex, where neurons are arranged into functional mini-columns with recurrent connectivity motifs linked to task-related activity, and discuss the potential computational advantages of this architecture. I will then show how these principles extend to larger spatial scales. Imaging ~1,000,000 neurons across 10 cortical regions revealed high-dimensional local population activity patterns alongside coordinated cortex-wide dynamics mediated by synchronized inter-areal communication. These distributed network dynamics supported high-dimensional representations of short-term memory for target location. Dear all, We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join the Translational Imaging Biomarkers Lab at the Institute of Neurosciences (CSIC–UMH, Alicante, Spain), working Dr. Maximilian Eggl and collaborating with Dr. Silvia De Santis. The position is fully funded for 3 years (with possible extension) and has an expected start date in Autumn 2026. Our research combines mathematics, machine learning, neuroimaging, and neuroscience to develop innovative computational tools for understanding brain health and disease. Current research directions include AI-inspired biomarkers of brain structure and function, simulation-based inference, quantitative MRI, computational neuroscience, and mechanistic modelling of biological systems. The successful candidate will join a highly interdisciplinary and international research environment at the interface of neuroscience, mathematics, artificial intelligence, and medical imaging. The exact project will be tailored to the interests and background of the successful candidate. Applicants should have (or be close to obtaining) a Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as applied mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, data science, computational neuroscience, or a related field. Strong programming skills (preferably in Python) and experience with mathematical modelling are required. Experience with machine learning, scientific computing, Bayesian inference, neuroimaging, or computational neuroscience is advantageous but not required. Computational Consciousness Science - 1 August 2026, New York

We are pleased to announce a one-day meeting (a CCN 2026 <https://2026.ccneuro.org/> satellite event) on 1st August 2026 in New York: COMPUTATIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS SCIENCE A recent explosion of interest in computational models of consciousness comes both from our attempts to extend computational models of perception and cognition to their subjective aspects and from the importance of consciousness to the ethical implications of AI models. This satellite meeting examines computational approaches from the points of view of philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience, with keynotes from David Chalmers (philosophy), Marisa Carrasco (psychology), and Biyu He (neuroscience). There will also be research talks from faculty, postdocs, and PhDs highlighting the contribution of computational models to our understanding of change-blindness, iconic memory, spatial perception, and visual illusions, as well as helping us to develop new measures of conscious awareness. A closing panel discussion will explore new and future directions for the emerging discipline of computational consciousness science. PhD position in brain-like machine intelligence and artificial cognition at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm

Dear Colleagues I am writing to draw your attention to a PhD position in brain-like machine intelligence and artificial cognition (https://www.kth.se/lediga-jobb/938381?l=en) in Computational Cognitive Brain Science lab in the Department of Computational Science and Technology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. The goal of the project is to develop and simulate large-scale neural network models of the brain’s cognitive function with focus on cortical memory system, and use them to make advances towards brain-like intelligent systems. Special focus is on coupling multiple neural networks to study neural interactions between different cortical regions supporting cognitive function. You are expected to build such large-scale brain plausible network-of-networks models in the continuum between spiking and non-spiking computations, and hence propose novel architectural blueprint for AI agents.
