*Postdoctoral position in Human Visual Psychophysics with fMRI/MRI, (m/f/d)* *(TVöD-Bund E13, 100%)* The Department of Sensory and Sensorimotor Systems (PI Prof. Li Zhaoping) at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics and at the University of Tübingen is currently looking for highly skilled and motivated individuals to work on projects aimed towards understanding visual attentional and perceptual processes using fMRI/MRI. The projects can involve, for example, visual search tasks, stereo vision tasks, visual illusions, and will be discussed during the application process. fMRI/MRI technology can be used in combination with other methods such as eye tracking, TMS and/or EEG methodologies, and other related methods as necessary. The postdoc will be working closely with the principal investigator and other members of Zhaoping's team when needed. *Responsibilities:* ·Conduct and participate in research projects such as lab and equipment set up, data collection, data analysis, writing reports and papers, and presenting at scientific conferences Participate in routine laboratory operations, such as planning and preparations for experiments, lab maintenance and lab procedures. A post-doctoral position is available at the Anticipation, Cognition and Emotion lab at the University of Pittsburgh (https://www.ace.pitt.edu) to work with Dr. Anna Manelis and her team. A successful candidate will work on the NIMH funded research project that uses multimodal neuroimaging (fMRI, MRI, DTI and fNIRS) to understand the contribution of anticipatory processing to cognitive and emotional dysfunction in individuals with mood disorders. Required Qualifications: a PhD degree in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or a related discipline. A strong research background in the analysis and interpretation of neuroimaging data is required. Excellent writing skills are a must. Candidates with a strong computational background are encouraged to apply. Experience with FSL, Freesurfer and E-prime is preferred. The ability to program in Shell, Matlab, Python and/or R is preferred. Experience with fNIRS, graph modeling, and pattern classification analyses is a plus. While prior experience with clinical populations is not necessary, we expect candidates to be interested in neuroimaging research of working and episodic memory in individuals with mood disorders. Responsibilities: A successful candidate will analyze clinical, behavioral, and neuroimaging data, write manuscripts, and present at conferences. This is a 1- to 2-year position. It brings together the best of academic research in neuroscience and cognitive science in the Paris region, with more than 200 research teams spread over 17 sites (6 universities and schools of higher education, as well as laboratories affiliated to Inserm, CNRS, CEA and the Pasteur Institute) and more than 40 industrial partners. An international doctoral program is set up by C-BRAINS in 2023, offering students a unique opportunity to develop their scientific projects within the neuroscience and cognitive science research teams of the greater Paris area. Postdoc position in Computational Neuroscience

We are looking for a post-doc to work with us at the Centre de Recherche de Cerveau et Cognition (CerCo) in Toulouse, France. The project will be led by Andrea Alamia and funded by the European Research Council (ERC). Work environment The successful applicant will join the Centre de Recherche de Cerveau et Cognition (CerCo) in a lively research institute in Toulouse, a thriving Southern France city. CerCo is a research center created by the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University Paul Sabatier, composed of over 30 research scientists and around 40 doctoral and post-doctoral students. The applicant will join the NeuroAI team, with a strong focus on computational neuroscience and artificial intelligence. The team has access to different experimental facilities, such as EEG, TMS, and fMRI, as well as computational resources (clusters and local GPUs). The project The project is part of an ERC starting grant investigating the role of oscillatory traveling waves in cognitive functions. Our primary goal is to study neural oscillations within and between cortical regions, as well as cortical-thalamic interactions. Our approach's novelty consists of framing the model in the light of Predictive Coding principles, using a computational approach based on spiking and deep neural networks. We'll compare the results of the simulations against experimental recordings of human participants (mostly EEG) to validate and assess the model's predictions. Requirements · Applicants should hold a PhD in computational neuroscience, computer science, engineering, cognitive science, or similar. · Ability to work independently, developing ideas and interests within the project's scope. · A solid mathematical background and excellent computing skills, including programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python). Experience with system theory, models of cortical circuits, and knowledge of neural oscillations are not strictly necessary but highly appreciated. · Fluent in English in both speaking and writing. No knowledge of French is required. The position will run for one year and is renewable for up to 3 years; its starting date is flexible (between March and October 2023). We are hiring two more postdoctoral fellows to support this effort. We invite graduate students and postgraduate researchers to participate in the course, held from June 19th through July 6th, 2023 at an oceanfront seminar house of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University. Applicants will receive confirmation of acceptance end of March. 3 PhD positions at the University of Bern

Applications are invited for three PhD student positions at the University of Bern. The positions are funded by a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation which is entitled “Why Spikes?”. This project aims at answering an almost 100 year old question in Neuroscience: “What are spikes good for?”. Indeed, since the discovery of action potentials by Lord Adrian in 1926, it has remained largely unknown what the benefits of spiking neurons are, when compared to analog neurons. Traditionally, it has been argued that spikes are good for long-distance communication or for temporally precise computation. However, there is no systematic study that quantitatively compares the communication as well as the computational benefits of spiking neuron w.r.t analog neurons. The aim of the project is to systematically quantify the benefits of spiking at various levels. The PhD students and post-doc will be supervised by Prof. Jean-Pascal Pfister (Theoretical Neuroscience Group, Department of Physiology, University of Bern). The PhD candidates (resp. post-doc candidate) should hold a Master (resp. PhD) degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computational Neuroscience, Neuroscience or a related field. She/he should have keen interests in developing theories that can be tested experimentally. Preference will be given to candidates with strong mathematical and programming skills.
