5-Year combined MSc/PhD program of the International Max Planck Research School: The Mechanisms of Mental Function and Dysfunction The Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research and the University of Tübingen invite students from all over the world to apply for their interdisciplinary 5-year combined MSc/PhD program leading to a PhD in Neuroscience. MSc Scholarships will be available for top-ranked applicants. Students (who should have been awarded a Bachelor's degree by September 2023) will receive a broad interdisciplinary training in neuroscience, including expert teaching by international renowned scientists and individual and intensive mentoring. Potential research topics cover a variety of fields in systems neuroscience, cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, computational neuroscience, translational and clinical neuroscience as well as cellular and molecular neuroscience. A crucial unmet need in the management of Parkinson’s disease is how to reliably identify patients that would benefit from deep brain stimulation, the most effective treatment for Parkinson’s. The project team will create a machine-learning platform that synthesises wide-ranging personal and clinical data, combined with neural modelling, to predict the suitability of each Parkinson’s disease patient for deep brain stimulation. An exciting opportunity for the pipeline will be integrating computational models of the neural circuits disrupted in Parkinson’s. ANNOUNCEMENT: comp-neuro has moved to new host

Dear comp-neuro subscriber, I am glad to announce that the comp-neuro mailing list has moved to a new home. This was necessary because the previous set-up became increasingly hard to maintain since I left the University of Antwerp. As a consequence it became difficult for aspirant members to subscribe and mails were sometimes delayed. The mailing list has now moved to a cloud based home and runs a more recent version of the software. I expect this will provide a stable solution with a better service. Appropriately, it is now managed by the Organization for Computational Neurosciences. Please encourage your colleagues, collaborators, students, etc who are not member yet to subscribe to comp-neuro, now that the website works again. SISSA is an elite postgraduate research institution in Trieste, Italy, focusing on Maths, Physics and Neuroscience. It operates in English: many among its students and faculty are not Italian. The Donders Institute is looking for a new Scientific Director!

Are you a leading researcher in the field of brain, cognition and behaviour with experience in managerial leadership? Do you have a clear vision on the future of cognitive neuroscience and are you able to translate this into a coherent business strategy for one of the leading neuroscience institutes in Europe? Then combine your scientific and leadership skills as the scientific director of the Donders Institute. In 2023, a new governance structure will be implemented at the Donders Institute. As part of this development, the Donders Institute has an opening for a scientific director who will spend 0.5 FTE as director of the institute and 0.5 FTE for research activities and teaching. As scientific director, you will be the head and chair of the Executive Board of the Donders Institute Network. The Scientific Director is ultimately responsible for the overarching research activities and research strategy and for managerial and financial aspects of the Donders Institute. The latter include among others various portfolio's, such as the Donders Graduate School's graduate programme, talent development, societal impact, external relations, public outreach, diversity and sustainable science. Since most researchers at the Donders Institute are based at partners of the Donders Institute (Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, the Radboud university medical center, Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging, Max-Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics), you will consult with the deans/directors involved at the Supervisory and Strategy Boards' meetings to set out a long-term research strategy, financial commitment and investment programme.
