The Department of Computer Science at Hong Kong Baptist University offers
BSc, MSc, MPhil, and PhD programmes, and is now seeking outstanding
applicants for the following faculty positions on tenure-track.
*Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (Computer Science)

The appointees will perform high-impact research, teach and supervise
students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and contribute to
professional and institutional services. Collaboration with other faculty
members in research and teaching is also expected. They will be encouraged
to collaborate with colleagues within the Department to contribute to two
special thematic applications including (a) health informatics and (b)
security and privacy-aware computing, and to pursue new strategic research
initiatives under the Department/Faculty/University.
Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer
Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, and sufficiently
demonstrate abilities to conduct high quality research in areas including
but not limited to: Internet of things, Cyber-security, High-performance
computing, Big data analytics, Art technologies and Financial technologies.
Applicants should also show strong commitment to undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching in computer science and/or information systems,
possess track record of innovative research and high-impact publications,
and be able to bid for and pursue externally-funded research programmes.
Initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of three
years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.

Bochum, invites applications for a full time *Postdoctoral position*
(TV-L E13) in Computational Neuroscience. The position starts on July 1,
2022 and is funded for three years.
The successful applicant will work on a collaborative project (within
the Collaborative Research Center “Extinction Learning” (SFB 1280
<https://sfb1280.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/en/home/>)), together with
experimentalists to:
* analyze learning dynamics in behavioral, neural, and
psychophysiological data, which will be collected by other projects
within the SFB 1280,
* compare the learning dynamics between individuals, species, learning
phases and learning paradigms,
* develop algorithms to analyze the learning dynamics,
* develop and study computational models of learning dynamics,
* coordinate research with other participating projects.
Candidates must have:
* a doctorate degree in neuroscience, physics, mathematics,
electrical/biomedical engineering or a closely related field,
* relevant experience in mathematical modeling,
* excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, C/C++, Matlab),
* excellent communication skills in English,
* the ability to work well in a team.
Research experience in neuroscience would be a further asset.
The position is third party funded and does not have any formal teaching
duties attached.
The research group is highly dynamic and uses diverse computational
modeling approaches
including biological neural networks, cognitive modeling, and machine
learning to investigate learning and memory in humans and animals. For

The Ruhr University Bochum is home to a vibrant research community in
neuroscience and cognitive science. The Institute for Neural Computation
is an independent research unit and
combines different areas of expertise ranging from experimental and

The annual Cosyne meeting provides an inclusive forum for the exchange of empirical and theoretical approaches to problems in systems neuroscience, in order to understand how neural systems function.
The MAIN MEETING is single-track. A set of invited talks is selected by the Executive Committee, and additional talks and posters are selected by the Program Committee, based on submitted abstracts. The WORKSHOPS feature in-depth discussion of current topics of interest, in a small group setting.
Cosyne topics include but are not limited to: neural basis of behavior, sensory and motor systems, circuitry, learning, neural coding, natural scene statistics, dendritic computation, neural basis of persistent activity, nonlinear receptive field mapping, representations of time and sequence, reward systems, decision-making, synaptic plasticity, map formation and plasticity, population coding, attention, neuromodulation, and computation with spiking networks.

Applications are now open for travel grants to attend the conference. Each awardee will receive at least $500 to help offset the costs of travel, registration, and accommodations. Larger grants may be available to those traveling from outside Europe. Special consideration is given to scientists who have not previously attended the meeting, under-represented minorities, students who are attending the meeting together with a mentor, undergraduate students, and authors of submitted Cosyne abstracts. *Position: *Faculty Director, Sapien Labs Center for the Human Brain and
Mind at Krea University
*About the Centre:*
Krea University aims to establish, in partnership with Sapien Labs, a
center for research and learning related to the human brain and mind. The
overall mission of the centre is to enable a cross-disciplinary ecosystem
that helps understand the nature and relationship of the brain and mind,
its evolution and diversity across humanity and the environmental and
social determinants of our cognitive and mental health.
Among the main goals, the centre envisages to: (1) Assist in the creation
of an all India collaborative network to enable practical applications of
insights; (2) Build a core program of data acquisition across a large
cross-section of people across their lifespan; (3) Develop a substantial
analytical capability for large-scale insights; (4) Develop a generation of
research scholars with a broad cross-disciplinary perspective; (5) Foster
research and develop new curriculum across disciplines; (5) Communicate
scientific research findings on brain development widely available to
diverse constituencies; (6) Promote public awareness and impact policy by
discussing the implications of brain/mind research in the fields of
education, health, law, parenting, and mental health, and enhance the field
of developmental cognitive neuroscience.
One of the key flagship activities of the centre will be the India host of
“The Human Brain Diversity” initiative, a big data project of Sapien Labs
that measures brain activity on a large scale across the globe using EEG,
along with various other measures of life experience, mental and cognitive
outcomes and other physiological and metabolic measures. The centre is
anticipated to have synergistic collaborations across various entities
within the Krea ecosystem.
*The Role:*
The Faculty Director will guide and build the research program at the
Sapien Labs Center for Human Brain and Mind at Krea University in
collaboration with key research advisors at the centre. He/she will hold a
faculty position at Krea University, and will hold this responsibility
along with their teaching/research work. The Faculty Director will also be
responsible for fostering synergies among faculty members, students,
post-docs, and the broader academic community at Krea University, along
with promoting the centre’s research within wider academic networks in

*Responsibilities:*
*Research Leadership*
· Engage in research on the human brain and mind that aligns with
the mission of the center.
· Bring together a cross-disciplinary faculty at Krea and beyond to
collaborate on research within the center.
· Manage the data center along with the Executive Director (possibly
in collaboration with the Center for Data Science and Computation).
· Collaborate with the Executive Director to build, and provide
sufficient support for, a community of innovative researchers to enhance
research capacity at Krea and to increase internal and external research
opportunities for faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and students in the
research domains of the centre;
· Develop mutually beneficial linkages with partners and
collaborators for dissemination and outreach. Organize periodic seminars,
workshops, and lectures; and provide meaningful content and publications
for the centre’s website;
· Enhance the overall reputation of the research centre and Krea
University by ensuring quality research, and communicating that research to
relevant stakeholders;
· Ensure all research activities are in conformity with prevalent
laws, ICMR and all other Government guidelines, rules and regulations along
with Krea’s IRB protocols;
· Evangelize the center and its research to develop collaborations
across the country and internationally.
*Academic Leadership*
· Develop a teaching curriculum to build scholarship in the field;
· Facilitate pathways for student internships and work-study
positions;
· Represent the centre at Krea’s Research Council.
The Faculty Director should have the following qualifications:
· Ph.D in neuroscience, psychology, clinical psychiatry, or
cognitive science;
· Multidisciplinary, broad, thoughtful perspective spanning at least
two of the following fields – neuroscience, psychology, clinical
psychiatry, psychiatry, cognitive science, social science, physics, data
science, and complex systems;
· Must have a significantly data-oriented background and skills as
the center will have a heavy focus on big data (e.g. understanding of data
structures and some programming background);
· Excellent communicator with an ability to teach and communicate
with the different stakeholders;
· Strong relationship and team building skills with ability to bring
together faculty across disciplines and establish external collaborations;
· A practical translational perspective for how research can
translate into useful policy, products and services. Some experience
outside academia, therefore, is a plus.
· Assist in ethics/IRB proposals.

Call for INCF mentors and project ideas for GSOC 2022 - deadline January 15 & 25

INCF will apply to be a mentor organization in Google Summer of Code
<https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com> for the 12th time running.
We are calling for open source software development project ideas with some
sort of *neuro connection* - fixes or extensions to big/broadly applicable
or small/niche tools used by neuroscience researchers, efforts and
initiatives in the broad field of computational neuroscience. If your
project supports or implements INCF endorsed standards or best practices
<https://www.incf.org/resources/sbps>, we especially encourage you to
apply. We are also* looking for mentors who are willing to take on
student-proposed projects *that fit their interests.
As you may have seen earlier this year, Google has announced some changes
to the GSoC program for 2022:
- Candidate *eligibility* will widen, the only requirement is that
candidates are newcomers to open source (instead of "GSoC student", the
official term Google uses is now "GSoC contributor").
- The project *effort* can be half-time or full-time - 175 or 350 hours.
Everyone submitting at least two project ideas will be asked to *include
both half-time and full-time projects*.
- Project end dates can be extended (but not moved earlier), at the
discretion of the org admin. To keep the administration manageable, *we
will only accept projects initially planned for a 12 week duration*.
Extensions during the program period will be made on a case-by-case basis.
Also, the usual reminder: there is no guarantee that INCF will be accepted
as a mentoring organization this year; Google announces the accepted
organizations sometime in March. Please be clear with this in your
communication with students.
The timeline will be similar to the years before, but the dates are not yet
set. We expect applications to open early February and close two weeks
later (with accepted organizations announced a couple of weeks later). We
aim to have a live Project Ideas list from mid January.
*Important*: Interested mentors need to contact us (malin(a)incf.org with CC
to gsoc(a)incf.org) early with a declaration of interest and a short summary
of the intended project(s), latest *January 15*. Full project descriptions
need to be submitted by *January 25*.

Submission instructions
Each submission should come by email to malin(a)incf.org with CC to
gsoc(a)incf.org, and contain:
1) An informative title with relevant keywords (good-to-have: name of
tool/project, name of programming language(s) or tools used)
2) A project description including a brief general intro, motivation, aims,
scope and skills/skill level needed. Please make sure to clearly state
- the planned effort (175 or 350 hours)
- the intended skill level (beginner, novice, intermediate, advanced)
- the list of pre-requisite skills the contributor will need to have
- 2-5 tech keywords (Python, C++, Java, SQL, REST, CUDA, ...)
For submissions with two or more project ideas, *please include at least
one project of each size (175 or 350 hours)*.
3) At least *one lead mentor + one named co-mentor/backup mentor* who would
be able and willing to back the main mentor up in mentoring in case
something unforeseen happens. There can be more than one, as long as you
are internally clear on who does what.
4) Any planned longer absences during the lead up/student interaction
period (February - April) or the project period (May - August), and the
plan for covering them.
5) Format: your choice - txt, doc, docx, pdf or a link to a webpage with
the full description(s). Anything that can be copied and pasted.
*Please note*: Project ideas will be posted on the forum Neurostars.org
after the Ideas list goes live, and* prospective mentors are expected to
join the forum and be available for questions* from students during the run
up to the announcement (late Jan - early March) and the student
interactions period (March-April). This can be handled mostly by email, if

At the University of Göttingen, a new Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1528 "Cognition of Interaction" will be established with funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG). The CRC invites applications for a
Doctoral position (all genders welcome)
This is a 65% position (currently 25,87h/week) until December 31st, 2025. The position should be filled as soon as possible. Salary: Pay grade 13 TV-L.
Across 22 projects, the CRC 1528 "Cognition of Interaction"<https://uni-goettingen.de/de/652672.html> will investigate how fundamental cognitive functions and their neurobiological foundations contribute to human and nonhuman primate social behavior and social interactions. The network is formed by a highly interdisciplinary consortium of systems and computational neuroscientists, data scientists, psychologists and behavioral and cognitive biologists.
We are looking for candidates with an excellent Master's degree in neuroscience, cognitive science, physics, computer science or a related field who are committed to pursuing a career in research. The successful applicant will develop and apply novel information theoretic measures to high-dimensional behavioral and electrophysiological neural recordings to investigate signatures of predictive processing of the actions of others. The ideal candidate should have excellent skills in scientific writing and should have demonstrated her/his ability to work independently. Prior experience with predictive coding theory and experience with the application of information theory to biological data are a plus. Proven coding skills in a language relevant to data analysis (e.g. Python, Julia, R, Scala, Java or Mat-lab) and a co-authorship on a scientific publication are also considered as an advantage.
