We are looking to recruit a new postdoctoral associate for a large collaborative project on the anatomical development of the human cerebellum. The overall goal of the project is to develop a high-resolution normative model of human cerebellar development across the entire life span. The successful candidate will join the Diedrichsen Lab<http://www.diedrichsenlab.org/> (Western University, Canada) and will work with a team of colleagues at Erasmus Medical Center, the Donders Institute (Netherlands), McGill, Dalhousie, Sick Kids, and UBC (Canada). A PhD degree in Neuroscience, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Psychology, Medicine or related fields is required. Expertise in machine learning, analysis of medical imaging data, and/or normative modeling is highly desired. The project is funded for a 3 year duration, with the initial contract for 2 years. Registration open for algorithmic innovation in AI and biotech day (MIT/Harvard/PillarVC; 27th November; Boston)

We are thrilled to announce a day of talks on algorithmic innovation and entrepreneurship (Boston, 27th Nov). TLDR: This will feature speakers from MIT and Harvard talking about the design and application of algorithms for innovation, discovery, and design in their research: www.algopreneurship.org We will be hosting leading researchers from MIT, Harvard, Oxford, Princeton, and Stanford, who will give a succession of short talks that spotlight how their algorithms are being used to generate innovations in AI research and biotech, including Professor George Church, one of the founders of synthetic biology, and Professor Mina Lukovic, who leads the Algorithmic Design Group at MIT. A group of industry leaders will attend and discuss these ideas in Q&A sessions, roundtable discussions, and panel events. These include faculty from MIT Sloan and Harvard Business School, as well as representatives from entrepreneurship, VCs, and larger tech, consultancy, and biomedical companies. It is primarily aimed at students and researchers in the computational/theoretical neuroscience community, and I hope it will contribute to make our community even more lively and generous 🙂. I believe having a podcast where guests are invited to talk about their work is quite valuable for a scientific field, like the podcast "BrainInspired" for the NeuroAI community. Appointees will join as Grossman Center Postdoctoral Fellows, with the freedom to work with any of its faculty members. We especially welcome applicants who develop computational models and machine learning analysis methods to study the brain at the circuits, systems, or cognitive levels. The current faculty members of the Grossman Center to work with are: (informal enquiries are welcome) Brent Doiron. The Theory of Neuronal Circuits lab investigates how the cellular and synaptic circuitry of neuronal circuits supports the complex dynamics and computations that are routinely observed in the brain. We use techniques from dynamical systems theory, statistical mechanics, and information theory to build and analyze cortical circuit models, often in collaboration with experimental teams investigating visual, olfactory, auditory, and decision-making cortices (bdoiron(a)uchicago.edu) Jorge Jaramillo. The Distributed Neural Dynamics and Control lab investigates how subcortical structures interact with cortical circuits to subserve cognitive processes such as memory, attention, and decision making. We are looking for scientists to work on projects in collaboration with experimental colleagues at UChicago, Allen Institute, and LMU Munich including: large-scale models for cognition in the mouse and in silico models of human deep brain stimulation (jorge.jaramillo(a)uni-goettingen.de) Ramon Nogueira. The Artificial and Biological Neuroscience lab investigates the geometry of representations in different areas of the brain to understand the computational support of cognitive processes like flexible behavior and generalization by developing computational tools and collaborating with experimental labs. Postdoc at SISSA: Memory Glass in Language Evolution

The project is based on our research (Ryom and Treves, Phys Rev X Life, 2023, and unpublished) and on extensive data on language parameters collected by Longobardi and collaborators (Ceolin et al, Phil Trans Roy Soc B, 2021) which suggest that language diversity may reflect the disordered freezing dynamics that in a spin glass leads to a multiplicity of ground states. In a simplified model, vectors of binary syntactic parameters interact via strong asymmetric logical implications and weak partly symmetric influences, which can produce critical slowing down through a novel mechanism of percolated freezing. Two postdoc positions are available at RIKEN Center for Brain Science, Japan, to work with Taro Toyoizumi on Computational/Theoretical Neuroscience. Our research is within the field of Computational Neuroscience. We utilize computer models to explore how information is processed in the brain and how the brain circuits adapt to the environment. Drawing on analytical techniques from statistical physics and information theory, we probe the key functional properties of neural circuits. We apply these techniques to distill diverse experimental findings into a few core concepts. We hold a particular interest in activity-dependent forms of plasticity in the brain, which exert significant influences on learning, memory, and development. Leveraging mathematical models, we aim to formulate a theory that bridges cellular-level plasticity rules and computation. The capacity of neurons to represent and retain information is gauged from the structure and behavior of resulting circuits. This special issue will be published in the research topic of the journal - Frontiers in Robotics and AI and Frontiers in Neurorobotics. In this special issue, we will discuss the fascinating Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) research with the interfacing of applied neuroscience, psychology and design methodologies. Scope of submissions: The complex tapestry of human biology, consciousness, and cognition presents a unique challenge for technology designed to interact with us. Hi, Could you distribute this announcement to your students? Thanks a lot! We are seeking 3 master's students to systematically evaluate Virtual Epilepsy Patients (VEP). The VEP workflow employs computational models and machine learning techniques to estimate epileptogenic networks and assist in surgical strategies. In this context, the computational models are personalized whole-brain network models based on the patient's recorded data. VEP represents the first well-established instance of applying the concept of virtual brain twins in a clinical trial, called Epinov. Our team is a world leader in advancing the concept of virtual brain twins. Three topics: 1. Systematic investigation of the sensitivity of the VEP in terms of electrode locations. 2. Systematic investigation of the robustness of the VEP in terms of data features. 3. Systematic investigation of the robustness of the VEP in terms of the size of the windows of seizure analysis. About the ideal candidates: * A strong grasp of mathematics, physics, neuroscience, and computer science, or a genuine enthusiasm for cultivating these skills, is essential. * The ability to quickly acquire proficiency in new computational tools is important, and we will offer comprehensive guidance to support your learning. * Proficiency in coding is a fundamental skill. * Ideally, you are a Master 2 student and would like to complete your 6-month internship in our laboratory. * An added advantage would be a strong motivation to pursue a career in scientific research and aspire to become a Ph.D. candidate. Dramatic advances in the ease with which large-scale datasets of behavior, neural activity, connectomic and gene expression information can be collected have coincided with a revolution in the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence-based algorithms to interrogate such datasets. Concurrently, these new datasets are inspiring exciting new developments in mathematical tools for extracting their underlying structure and relationships. What is the current state of the art in our theoretical/computational understanding of the brain, and what does the future hold? The McDougal lab at Yale University seeks one or two highly motivated Postdoctoral Associates to advance the frontiers of neuroscience simulation. In addition to papers, etc, this work will be shared with the community in the form of enhancements to the NEURON<https://nrn.readthedocs.io/> simulator. Related lab projects include: combining machine learning and mechanistic modeling, multisimulation (interoperation with other tools), high-resolution simulations of subcellular chemical dynamics, and algorithm development (GPUs, initialization, performance enhancements). The Postdoctoral Associate will lead one or more of these projects and will present this work at conferences, in publications, and in the form of open-source software. Mentorship and career development opportunities will be tailored to the Postdoctoral Associate’s interests. Applicants should hold or be about to complete a PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, computer science), neuroscience, or a related field. Strong programming skills in Python and C++ are essential, as is scientific excellence as demonstrated through publication history. Experience with the NEURON<https://nrn.readthedocs.io/> simulator, in machine learning, numerical methods, and/or GPU computing is desirable, but not required. The successful candidate will develop and apply computational modelling, and theoretical and analytical techniques to understand brain and behavioural data across primate species, and to apply biologically based neural network modelling to elucidate mechanisms underlying perceptual decision-making. *Flatiron Research Fellow (Postdoctoral Fellow), NeuroAI and Geometric Data Analysis* *Description* Applications are invited for Flatiron Research Fellowships (FRF) in the NeuroAI and Geometric Data Analysis Group (SueYeon Chung, PI) at the Center for Computational Neuroscience at the Flatiron Institute of the Simons Foundation, whose focus is on understanding computation in the brain and artificial neural networks by: (1) analyzing geometries underlying neural or feature representations, embedding and transferring information, and (2) developing neural network models and learning rules guided by neuroscience. To do this, the group utilizes analytical methods from statistical physics, machine learning theory, and high-dimensional statistics and geometry.The CCN FRF program offers the opportunity for postdoctoral research in areas that have strong synergy with one or more of the existing research groups at CCN or other centers at the Flatiron Institute. In addition to carrying out an independent research program, Flatiron Research Fellows are expected to: disseminate their results through scientific presentations, publications, and software release, collaborate with other members of the CCN or Flatiron Institute, and participate in the scientific life of the CCN and Flatiron Institute by attending seminars, colloquia, and group meetings. Flatiron Research Fellows may have the opportunity to organize workshops and to mentor graduate and undergraduate students. The mission of CCN is to develop theories, models, and computational methods that deepen our knowledge of brain function — both in health and in disease. CCN takes a “systems" neuroscience approach, building models that are motivated by fundamental principles, that are constrained by properties of neural circuits and responses, and that provide insights into perception, cognition and behavior. In our research, we seek to uncover the principles of how the brain performs computations related to sensory perception, decision making, and motor control. While previous experience in computational neuroscience and machine learning are desirable, applicants from other quantitative fields (e.g. math, physics, statistics, computer science) who are eager to learn about neuroscience are highly encouraged to apply as well. Some of the scientific questions that motivate our work are * How do different regions of the brain interact to learn new motor skills? * What are the neural mechanisms underlying optimal performance in complex cognitive tasks? * What are the principles that enable brains and artificial agents to learn efficiently from experience while minimizing forgetting? * How can neural circuits generate the complex dynamics enabling naturalistic animal behavior? Postdoctoral position in Computational Neuroscience to study role of sleep in memory and learning

The Bazhenov Lab at the University of California, San Diego, is currently seeking to fill a postdoctoral position to study the role of sleep in memory, learning, and forgetting. This exciting project involves close collaboration with experimental labs. The ultimate goal of the work is to advance our understanding of how the human and animal brain learns from experience and how sleep contributes to memory consolidation for recent learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing anatomically realistic biophysical brain network models based on experimental data. These models will be instrumental in uncovering network dynamics involved in memory consolidation, reconsolidation and forgetting during sleep, as well as guiding data analysis and generating innovative experimental predictions. Additionally, depending on the candidate's interests and experience, there may be opportunities to participate in other related lab projects. These projects include developing whole human brain model based on Human Connectome Project (HCP) data and mouse brain model based on the Allen Mouse Brain Connectivity Atlas. Other projects involve applying principles learned from neuroscience to artificial intelligence, focusing on areas such as continuous learning, knowledge generalization, and adaptation to novel situations and contexts. An ideal candidate should have a background in computational/theoretical neuroscience and neural modeling. Programming experience with C/C++ is required, and knowledge of Python and PyTorch is a significant plus. Envigado is in the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley, close to Medellín, the second-largest city in Colombia, and the capital of the department of Antioquia. Envigado was recognized recently as one of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (UNESCO GNLC). We will use various modeling frameworks, adapted to the scale, from piecewise-deterministic Markov processes to mean-field formalism. The postdoc will perform a mathematical analysis of the models, extensive numerical simulations as well as data analysis using neural recordings from our experimental partners. New York University is home to a thriving interdisciplinary community of researchers using computational and theoretical approaches in neuroscience. We are interested in exceptional PhD candidates with strong quantitative training (e.g., physics, mathematics, engineering) coupled with a clear interest in scientific study of the brain.
