A NIH-funded postdoctoral position is immediately available in Dr. Stéphane Maison’s laboratory in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear – Harvard Medical School. Our research interests focus on identifying biomarkers of a large range of etiologies and their associated disorders including difficulties hearing and communicating in noisy environments, reduced sound level tolerance and tinnitus using a test battery based on behavioral, electrophysiologic, and psychophysical measures. Salary and benefits are consistent with NIH guidelines and institution policies based on applicant’s experience. Highly motivated candidates who recently graduated with a PhD in biomedical engineering, computational biology, hearing science, neuroscience, or other related fields are welcome to apply. The applicant should have strong programming skills (e.g., Matlab, Python), independent and productive. Experience with human testing is preferred but not required. Our research seeks to understand how neural information processing under noisy and resource-constrained conditions allows the brain to efficiently perform computational tasks and control relevant behaviors. *This position <https://biology.ucsd.edu/jobs/postdoc#Computational/Theoretical-Neuro>* will involve the analysis of neural activity data (calcium imaging or electrophysiology) collected by our collaborators, as well as theoretical modeling of learning and task performance in neural networks. *Our research group <https://bennalab.biosci.ucsd.edu/people/>* is part of the vibrant Department of Neurobiology at UCSD, which is highly collegial, and offers many opportunities for collaborations, both formal and informal. Postdoctoral trainees are encouraged to attend seminars and present their work at departmental events. As the capital of Oman, Muscat is Oman's largest city with a population of over four million people and numerous tourist attractions. ICICIP2025 aims to provide a high-level international forum for scientists, engineers, and educators to present the state of the art of research and applications in related fields. The conference will feature plenary speeches given by world-renowned scholars, regular sessions with broad coverage, special sessions focusing on popular topics, and post-conference workshops/tutorials in the region. Prospective authors are invited to contribute high-quality papers to ICICIP2025. In addition, proposals for special sessions within the technical scopes of the symposium are solicited. In 2015, the Best Illusion of the YearSM Contest became an annual online event, with the goal of bringing the creativity of the illusion creator community all around the world. Applicants must meet the minimum English language requirements ( International website<http://www.lboro.ac.uk/international/applicants/english/>) Project details: Current AI models are not designed to reuse and share knowledge. When conditions change, e.g., data distributions, locations, or platforms, retraining needs to occur from scratch. In some cases, like for foundation models or for complex robotics tasks, the process requires very large amount of data and energy. Recent advances towards lifelong learning and sharable models promise to create a new efficient AI landscape in which machine-learned knowledge can be built incrementally and worldwide with optimized energy use. This PhD project aims to advance the latest lifelong learning and sharable AI models to contribute to reduce the energy footprint of AI. Postdoctoral and PhD opportunities - Resilience and diversity of complex networks - University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada Application Deadline: Sept 1st 2024 (reposted, deadline extended) The Lefebvre (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=CNtIaZoAAAAJ&hl=fr ) and Kharouba (https://kharoubalab.weebly.com/) labs are seeking candidates to fill ONE Postdoctoral and ONE PhD (Physics, Theoretical biology and/or Cellular and molecular medicine) fully funded, co-supervised positions to explore how heterogeneity influences the dynamics and resilience of complex systems. These interdisciplinary projects will combine mathematical (e.g., dynamical systems, spectral theory), computational (e.g., data-informed simulations) approaches used in neuroscience and other complex systems fields to study how cellular heterogeneity contributes to the stability, coding capacity and resilience of neural circuits and overall brain function(s). The overall objective of the projects is to better understand the role played by heterogeneity in the genesis of critical events (e.g., seizures) and identify potential intervention strategies and/or therapeutic targets. The research will be conducted in the uOttawa Bioscience Complex, a teaching and research hub hosting dozens of state-of-the-art experimental and computational interdisciplinary research facilities in downtown Ottawa, Canada. Successful candidates will be immersed in a highly interdisciplinary environment, with access to many additional training and networking activities, and be associated with Centre for Neural Dynamics, the Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Biology, the uOttawa Brain and Mind Institute as well as the Krembil Brain Institute. Details Start dates: as early as September 1st 2024. Position Description: Trainees will be expected to work in-person for most of the position. Trainees will be expected to participate in the lab's scholarly activities (i.e., workshops, meetings), and to support other lab member's work whenever applicable.
