The newly established Magnetoencephalographiy (MEG) group provides an access to an Elekta Neuromag Vectorview 306-channel MEG system and associated equipment. The CCDM focuses on E/MEG studies in a range of research strands including normal and pathological neurodynamics, decision making and neuroeconomics, memory, motor control, language and speech, theoretical neuroscience, BCI and other neurotechnologies, neuroimaging methods (including source modeling techniques). We are seeking outstanding postdoctoral research fellows with strong skills in computational or mathematical neuroscience, whose research ambition is to identify the physical substrate of conscious experience. If you are successful, you will work in Tsuchiya's lab at Monash, on our two Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project grants (2018-2020). Both projects will involve the analysis of intracranial neural recordings from multiple brain areas, which are simultaneously recorded, and conscious experience is also characterised. We are looking for a postdoc at the Centre for Systems Neuroscience at the University of Leicester, UK. The candidate will work on the analysis and recording of neurophysiology data as part of the research activities of the Centre for Systems Neuroscience (www.le.ac.uk/csn) The project will investigate concept representations in the mice hippocampus, analogous to the type of concept representations we have described in the human hippocampus – what are known as concept cells (a.k.a. Jennifer Aniston neurons) – that means, neurons that selectively fire to specific concepts, like different pictures and the written or spoken name of a particular person (see e.g. Quian Quiroga et al, Nature 2005; Quian Quiroga Nature Reviews Neuroscience 2012; Quian Quiroga et al, Scientific American 2013). The successful candidate will contribute to the recording and, particularly, the analysis of the 2-photon imaging and electrophysiology data collected in head fixed mice performing tasks in a virtual reality setup. The synergy between the human and mice recordings aims at gaining a deeper understanding of type of neural representations used by different species for memory processes. The candidate will not only contribute to the collection and analysis of the data but also to the development and optimization of advance methods for its analysis. The candidate should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in an area related to Neuroscience or signal processing (physics, mathematics, engineering, computer sciences). In addition to introducing Braindrop, this two-week school will teach participants to use the Nengo simulation package to build state-of-the-art cognitive and neural models to run both in simulation and on neuromorphic hardware. Nengo provides users with a versatile and powerful environment for designing cognitive and neural systems, and has been used to build what is currently the world's largest functional brain model, Spaun [1]. Hands-on tutorials, work on individual or group projects, and talks from invited faculty members will make up the bulk of day-to-day activities. A project demonstration event will be held on the last day of the school, with prizes for strong projects! OKINAWA/OIST COMPUTATIONAL NEUROSCIENCE COURSE 2018 Methods, Neurons, Networks and Behaviors June 25 to July 12, 2018 Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, Japan https://groups.oist.jp/ocnc The aim of the Okinawa/OIST Computational Neuroscience Course is to provide opportunities for young researchers with theoretical backgrounds to learn the latest advances in neuroscience, and for those with experimental backgrounds to have hands-on experience in computational modeling. We invite graduate students and postgraduate researchers to participate in the course, held from June 25th through July 12th, 2018 at an oceanfront seminar house of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University. Like in preceding years, the 15th OCNC will be a comprehensive three-week course covering single neurons, networks, and behaviors with ample time for student projects. The course has a strong hands-on component based on student proposed modeling or data analysis projects, which are further refined with the help of a dedicated tutor. Third Groningen Spring School on Cognitive Modeling – ACT-R, Nengo, PRIMs, & Accumulator Models – Date: April 9-13, 2018 Location: Groningen, the Netherlands Fee: € 250 (late fee after January 31 will be € 300) More information and registration: www.cognitive-modeling.com/springschool <http://www.cognitive-modeling.com/springschool> We are happy to announce the third Groningen Spring School on Cognitive Modeling (April 9-13, 2018). As in previous years, it will cover four different modeling paradigms: ACT-R, Nengo, PRIMs, and Accumulator models. It thereby offers a unique opportunity to learn the relative strengths and weaknesses of these approaches. See the attached flyer for more information about the paradigms. Each day will consist of four theory lectures, one on each modeling paradigm. Each paradigm also includes hands-on assignments. Although students are free to choose the number of lectures they attend, we recommend students to sign up for lectures on two of the paradigms, and complete the tutorial units for one of the paradigms. At the end of each day there will be a plenary research talk, to show how these different approaches to modeling are applied. The Spring School will be concluded with a keynote lecture and a conference dinner. This year we also offer the opportunity for project students to attend. The idea is that you have attended the spring school in an earlier year and now come back in the week of the spring school to work on your own modeling project under our supervision.
