Dear all, We have an open doctoral position at the intersection of machine learning and computational neuroscience as part of the Zebrafish Neuroscience Interdisciplinary Training Hub (https://zenith-etn.com/) The goal of the Ph.D. project is to develop multi-level causal models that relate neuronal activity patterns (as measured by Calcium imaging) in Zebrafish larvae to behavior. Dear all, This is about a PhD position to work in Potsdam with Michael Rosenblum (http://www.stat.physik.uni-potsdam.de/~mros/) in physics and neuroscience: Ph.D. position in physics at the University of Potsdam, Germany, to be filled as soon as possible. The successful candidate shall possess a master's degree in physics with specialization in complex systems/nonlinear dynamics and be interested in interdisciplinary research. The project implies cooperation between the Institut of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Potsdam (where the student will be enrolled) and neuroscientists and clinical researchers from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The project aims to develop advanced techniques for neurostimulation used to treat Parkinson's disease. >From the physics viewpoint, the research implies theoretical analysis and modeling of the dynamics of large neuronal populations under external stimulation. Exploiting the hypothesis that the pathological brain rhythms emerge due to excessive synchrony within a neuronal ensemble, we will develop feedback-based techniques to control these rhythms. In cooperation with experimentalists from Charité, we will try to translate these techniques into clinical practice. The project is a part of a large cooperative study funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). *CN**EURO **2020* *Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience Summer School* *17 to 21 August 2020 — Online, hosted by Tsinghua University, Beijing* http://brain.tsinghua.edu.cn/CNeuro *About CNeuro* How intelligence and behavior emerge from complex and intricate interactions within the brain remains a deep and unsolved mystery, central to an exciting area of interdisciplinary research. The past decade has seen rapid progress in experimental tools that now make it possible to monitor and manipulate brain circuits in unprecedented detail. This evolution presents challenges and opportunities for both experimentalists and theorists, as the complex algorithmics of brain function and the intricate interactions among neurons cannot be approached with experiments alone. Mathematical theory is instrumental in the emergence of theoretical insights and frameworks that can help guide experimental work and identify unifying principles of brain function. The aim of the one-week summer school will be to introduce students with a strong quantitative background (in mathematics, theoretical physics, computer science, and engineering) to the emerging field of theoretical and computational neuroscience. The course will bring together leading scientists in the field, who will deliver lectures, take part in small-group discussions, and share their personal experience and views on a range of research topics. The distinguishing feature of CNeuro is the emphasis it places on the role of systematic mathematical theory for understanding the brain, in part by stressing the connections between neuroscience, statistics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The summer school will serve as a pedagogical introduction to some of the methods particularly relevant to exploring these connections. *Course Structure and Curriculum* Each day will include three hours of lectures as well as two hours of discussions among students and faculty, in small groups. Topics will touch upon the biophysics and dynamics of neurons and network, neural coding, models of learning and other cognitive function, as well as machine learning and Bayesian approaches. PostDoc on Data Science and Computational Neuroscience in London The Computational Neuroscience and Psychiatry Lab (www.pinotsislab.com) at University of London—City is looking for a Post Doc with astrong background in data science and/or computational neuroscience. The Lab focuses on developing new algorithms for the analysis ofhuman and animal brain imaging data. These are based on computational models ofneural dynamics and state of the art techniques from Data Science. Particularemphasis is put on applications in computational psychiatry and developingmodels of brain pathology. Also, the Lab develops brain theories that canexplain brain pathology, using theoretical tools from deep neural networks andBayesian brain theories. The lab also performs EEG recordings. Postdoctoral position in computational neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis A postdoctoral position is available at Washington University in St. Louis, USA, in the area of normative computational modeling of neural circuits. The position supports an ongoing BRAIN initiative funded project studying the mechanisms of working memory. The overall goal of the project is to synthesize explanatory and predictive computational models of how memory resources are fluidly allocated in the presence of unpredictable, ongoing memory demands. Modeling efforts are paired with ongoing experiments on spatial and object working memory, enabling refinement and validation of developed theory. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to participate in several other projects in the area of circuit modeling, neural coding theory and neural engineering. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in engineering, math, computer science, neuroscience or a related field. Post-doctoral position in software engineering and computational neuroscience at Brown University Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in software engineering and computational neuroscience in the lab of Dr. Stephanie Jones at Brown University. Our group combines human electrophysiological recording, computational neural modeling, and non-invasive brain stimulation techniques to study the mechanisms and meaning of brain dynamics in health and disease. We developed a new neural modeling software tool designed for researchers and clinicians to develop and test predictions on the cell and circuit level origin of human electro- and magneto-encephalography (E/MEG) data. This open-source tool is called Human Neocortical Neurosolver (HNN) and is distributed at https://hnn/brown.edu (Neymotin et al eLife 2020). The hired candidate will help expand HNN’s capabilities, including software development using best-practices in open-source design and community support. The candidate will also work directly with researchers to apply HNN to specific neuroscience questions. Duties will include development of tutorials, online resources, and participation in workshops aimed at training the community in the use and applicability of HNN. The candidate will work with a diverse team of researchers at Brown, Mass General Hospital, and Yale University involved in HNN development. Candidates should have a PhD in computer science, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and/or related field. Strong Python programming skills are required, and experience with neural modeling, particularly NEURON, is preferred. Software developers without a PhD may also be considered. Familiarity with E/MEG analysis methods and/or non-invasive brain stimulation is also beneficial. Candidates should be able to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and fun work environment. The "Instituto de Microelectrónica de Sevilla" (IMSE) in Spain has an opening for a 3-year young post-doc position to join the Neuromorphic Group at IMSE (www.imse-cnm.csic.es/neuromorphs) financed by the Andalusian Regional Government. The Canadian Computational Neuroscience Spotlight to take place virtually on June 15 and 16

We are happy to announce the upcoming Canadian Computational Neuroscience Spotlight (CCNS) will take place virtually on June 15 and 16. This free meeting will be hosted using the Crowdcast platform, which has been successfully used for numerous virtual conferences over the past weeks and has a multitude of tools to facilitate the interactivity we often associate with traditional conferences. The keynote speakers for this event are Dr. Nancy Kopell (Boston University), Dr. Dimitris Pinotsis (City-University of London), Dr. Cameron McIntyre (Case Western University), and Dr. Philip Corlett (Yale University). PhD opportunity - Insect Intelligence @ Edinburgh

The Insect Robotics group led by Prof. Barbara Webb, in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, has two funded positions available for PhD candidates, to start no later than January 2021. The topic of research will be the neural mechanisms of navigation in insects, building on our recent work modelling the central complex and the mushroom body circuits. Insects have relatively small brains but exhibit substantial intelligence and flexibility in their ability to navigate complex environments, providing an opportunity to understand problems of learning, generalisation, cue integration etc. at the level of single neurons and their connectivity. The primary project aim will be to build detailed computational models, working closely with anatomical and physiological data from our project partners, and to explore the behavioural consequences in simulated and robot agents. There will also be the opportunity to do behavioural experiments on relevant model species such as ants and dung beetles, to complement the modelling results. Students will be fully supported for 3.5 years with a standard stipend, all fees covered, and an allowance for travel and research costs. The *Applied Computational Neuroscience (ACN) research group* ( https://acn.ugr.es) headed by Prof. Eduardo Ros at the University of Granada (UGR) is looking for talented Master or PhD students interested in working in the field of computational neuroscience and neurorobotics, specifically addressing questions of motor learning and adaptation. The perfect candidate shall possess a strong mathematical, computational or robotic engineering background (or equivalent), with great interest in biological and neural systems. Our team develops new neuromodulation paradigms and neuroprosthetic systems for repairing or replacing circuit-level functions that get disrupted after neurological disorders or injury. Our research combines techniques from Neuroscience and Neuroengineering , in particular in vivo electrophysiology, signal processing, machine learning and control engineering. We are specifically interested in expanding neuroprosthetic systems from motor to cognitive disorders. In particular, we aim at developing a large-scale brain network neuroprosthesis to restore memory after brain injury or neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. To strengthen our team, we are looking to hire a motivated postdoctoral researcher, who will be expected to work on multielectrode recordings and electrical stimulation of large-scale memory networks in non-human primates performing cognitive tasks. The ideal candidate should have expertise in non-human primate electrophysiology, neurostimulation, memory disorders, brain-machine interfaces, or neuroprosthetics. This highly interdisciplinary project requires both experimental and analytical skills, and will be conducted in collaboration with other team members. We seek a highly motivate PhD student for working at the Rehab Technologies Lab at IIT. Rehab Technologies is an innovation lab aimed at translating robotic technologies into hi-tech medical products for people with disabilities, including also neural interfaces and personalized neuroengineering solutions for promoting neuroplasticity, with the goal of replacing and/or retraining motor functionalities. We are also interested in monitoring the neural correlates of the rehabilitation treatment, by means of measures based on network connectivity extracted with hdEEG. The PhD project will mainly focus on this activity and will thus include experiments with patients and strong collaboration and interaction with our clinical partners. To this end, the candidate will benefit from a lively network of collaborations with hospitals and research institutions in Italy and abroad. Post doc position at UCL in human motion sequencing to investigate threat-related behaviour (PI Dominik R Bach)

We are looking for a for a Research Fellow in human motion sequencing, for an ERC-funded research project "Action selection under threat - the complex control of human defence" led by Dr Dominik Bach (bachlab.org) The overarching goal of the project is to understand the cognitive-computational control of human motor behaviour under acute, immediate threat. We investigate this in an immersive virtual reality (VR) environment, in which people can move to avoid a large number of different threats. As part of this project, the candidate will conduct full-body motion capture recordings, recover kinematics and dynamics, and structure the ensuing trajectories using hierarchical statistical models incorporating movement mechanics. We want to find out how motor primitives and their sequences are shaped by threat features and by the cognitive mechanisms that they engage. For more background, see references below. The post is based in London UK, at the Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research (www.mps-ucl-centre.mpg.de <www.mps-ucl-centre.mpg.de/>), which is part of the Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging (fil.ion.ucl.ac.uk) at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, a world-class research environment.
