Applications are invited for an externally funded Postdoctoral Research Associate position at the Intelligent Systems Research Centre (ISRC) in Ulster University, UK. The successful candidate will develop and apply computational modelling, and theoretical and analytical techniques to understand brain and behavioural data across primate species, and to apply biologically based neural network modelling to elucidate mechanisms underlying perceptual decision-making. The duration of the position is 24 months, from January 2024 till end of 2025. *Flatiron Research Fellow (Postdoctoral Fellow), NeuroAI and Geometric Data Analysis* *Description* Applications are invited for Flatiron Research Fellowships (FRF) in the NeuroAI and Geometric Data Analysis Group (SueYeon Chung, PI) at the Center for Computational Neuroscience at the Flatiron Institute of the Simons Foundation, whose focus is on understanding computation in the brain and artificial neural networks by: (1) analyzing geometries underlying neural or feature representations, embedding and transferring information, and (2) developing neural network models and learning rules guided by neuroscience. To do this, the group utilizes analytical methods from statistical physics, machine learning theory, and high-dimensional statistics and geometry.The CCN FRF program offers the opportunity for postdoctoral research in areas that have strong synergy with one or more of the existing research groups at CCN or other centers at the Flatiron Institute. In addition to carrying out an independent research program, Flatiron Research Fellows are expected to: disseminate their results through scientific presentations, publications, and software release, collaborate with other members of the CCN or Flatiron Institute, and participate in the scientific life of the CCN and Flatiron Institute by attending seminars, colloquia, and group meetings. Flatiron Research Fellows may have the opportunity to organize workshops and to mentor graduate and undergraduate students. In our research, we seek to uncover the principles of how the brain performs computations related to sensory perception, decision making, and motor control. Postdoctoral position in Computational Neuroscience to study role of sleep in memory and learning

The Bazhenov Lab at the University of California, San Diego, is currently seeking to fill a postdoctoral position to study the role of sleep in memory, learning, and forgetting. This exciting project involves close collaboration with experimental labs. The ultimate goal of the work is to advance our understanding of how the human and animal brain learns from experience and how sleep contributes to memory consolidation for recent learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing anatomically realistic biophysical brain network models based on experimental data. These models will be instrumental in uncovering network dynamics involved in memory consolidation, reconsolidation and forgetting during sleep, as well as guiding data analysis and generating innovative experimental predictions. Additionally, depending on the candidate's interests and experience, there may be opportunities to participate in other related lab projects. These projects include developing whole human brain model based on Human Connectome Project (HCP) data and mouse brain model based on the Allen Mouse Brain Connectivity Atlas. Other projects involve applying principles learned from neuroscience to artificial intelligence, focusing on areas such as continuous learning, knowledge generalization, and adaptation to novel situations and contexts. An ideal candidate should have a background in computational/theoretical neuroscience and neural modeling. Programming experience with C/C++ is required, and knowledge of Python and PyTorch is a significant plus. The current edition is organized by the research group "Grupo de Investigación Tecnologías Emergentes Sostenibles e Inteligentes GITESI" from the Engineering Faculty of the Institution University of Envigado (IUE), in collaboration with the Colegio Colombiano de Neurociencias (COLNE), the most representative association of neuroscience researchers and students in Colombia. The workshop will take place in the city of Envigado (Antioquia - Colombia) from November 28 to 30, 2023. This is the first LAWCN edition outside of Brazil, expanding its presence to Latin America, seeking to enhance the collaboration network among the countries of our region but keeping the worldwide approach. Envigado is in the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley, close to Medellín, the second-largest city in Colombia, and the capital of the department of Antioquia. Envigado is known for maintaining the traditions of the Paisa Region and for its architecture. It also has one of the highest standards of living in Colombia. Envigado was recognized recently as one of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (UNESCO GNLC). In keeping with the tradition of the previous edition of this meeting, the IV LAWCN has four main topics: A- Computational Neuroscience B- Neuroscience C- Neuroengineering D- Artificial intelligence and related topics. We are pleased to announce Visiting Scholars in Theoretical Sciences at OIST for a flexible term of 1 to 12 months as below. ***** As part of an initiative to develop a vibrant program in theoretical sciences, OIST invites applications for Visiting Scholars in the Theoretical Sciences. The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) is a research institution with a Ph.D. program. Outstanding graduate students and faculty are being attracted internationally. OIST is beautifully situated on the tropical island of Okinawa, Japan. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a relevant field and be independent researchers, i.e., should have an academic standing equivalent to senior postdoc, junior group leader, or faculty member at a research-intensive institution. The position has a flexible term of 1 to 12 months taken continuously starting between October 2021 and March 2022 with a preference for longer-term visitors. The appointment may be taken while on leave or sabbatical from another university and comes with housing, research funds, and moving allowance. Successful candidates will be eligible to apply for support with salary, where this is necessary to facilitate the visit. No teaching duties come with the position. OIST is an institution with no departments, aiming to eliminate barriers between people working in different fields.
