*Call for community feedback on the Neo object model for electrophysiology and optophysiology data - open until August 14, 2022* INCF is taking a leading role in endorsing and promoting standards and best practices (SBPs) for global neuroscience <https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12021-020-09509-0>, as part of our mission to promote data reuse and reproducibility in brain research. SBP’s are nominated by the community and reviewed by the INCF SBP Committee according to our criteria <https://incf.org/incf-standards-review-criteria-v20> for a FAIR community standard. If they meet our criteria, we put them up for 60 days of community review to gauge the level of user support and to identify possibilities for improvement and potential weaknesses. For the next 60 days (Closing date: August 14, 2022), we are seeking community feedback on whether we should endorse the Neo object model <https://www.incf.org/sbp/neo> as a standard. Neo <https://www.incf.org/sbp/neo> is an object model for handling electrophysiology data in multiple formats. It is suitable for representing data acquired from electroencephalographic, intracellular, or extracellular recordings, or generated from simulations. Neo has been implemented as a Python package for working with electrophysiology data, together with support for reading a wide range of neurophysiology file formats (including Spike2, NeuroExplorer, AlphaOmega, Axon, Blackrock, Plexon, Tdt, Igor Pro), and support for writing to a subset of these formats plus non-proprietary formats including Kwik and HDF5. State of the Art Methods for Brain Data Analysis- A workshop for computational, theoretical and cognitive neuroscientists taking place on July 6 at City— Universıty of London.versıty of London. . This hybrid workshop will discuss the state of the art methods in brain imaging and how they inform our understanding of the neural basis of behaviour and cognition. We invite applications for PhD and postdoctoral positions at the Computation in Neural Circuits group led by Prof. Julijana Gjorgjieva at the Technical University of Munich in Germany. Using mathematical and computational approaches, we study how neurons and the synaptic connections between them tune their properties during early development and young life to ensure appropriate network dynamics and behavior. Another interest relates to how adult function and behavior emerge from a diversity of mechanisms, including synaptic plasticity, sensory noise, and biophysical constraints. We address these questions at different spatial scales, from the organization of individual synaptic inputs on dendrites to large-scale networks of higher order cortex. We are especially interested in these processes during development before and shortly after birth when the brain is highly plastic, but general aspects of learning and memory, especially under naturalistic stimuli and behaviors are also of interest. We collaborate with different experimental research groups in the US, UK, Netherlands, Spain and Germany and benefit from interactions with the strong neuroscience community in Munich, including the SyNergy Cluster of Excellence. Our applications range across animals from rodent to Drosophila to reptiles and humans. Successful applicants can choose from a range of projects including theoretical model development and analytical calculations, numerical simulations, and applications to rich datasets from collaborating labs. Open topics include: - Formation and co-organization of excitatory and inhibitory synaptic inputs on dendrites, including dendritic growth, receptive field formation and alignment, and emergence of tuning. - Development of biophysical models of synaptic plasticity at the cellular and subcellular levels and investigation of their functional consequences. - Reliable top-down modulation of network dynamics during synaptic plasticity, including interactions between different information streams. - Mechanistic dissection of cortical computations driven by different cell types, especially interneurons. - Modeling network attractor states of resilience, and synaptic and homeostatic plasticity processes to rebalance network states after perturbation. invitation to join an open collaborative comp neuro research project

Hi everyone, We have started a new collaborative, open comp neuro research project (in the spirit of the Polymath project<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polymath_Project> that was a huge success in mathematics). Everyone is invited to participate, and anyone who does contribute will get to be an author. Some details below, but you can just jump straight in to the website and take a look here: https://comob-project.github.io/snn-sound-localization/ The idea is to experiment with doing science in the spirit of collaboration rather than competition. We've set up an initial research topic and some code/results, and then you choose what direction you want to take, get feedback from others and give feedback to them on their ideas. We have an infrastructure that makes all contributions appear automatically on the website. We're running a discussion group, and planning local workshops. The first one of those will be in Paris on July 8th, just before FENS. This project grew out of my Cosyne tutorial<https://neural-reckoning.github.io/cosyne-tutorial-2022/> on using machine learning methods with spiking neural networks (surrogate gradient descent). It's a relatively easy topic to get into and a lot of low hanging fruit to pick, so hopefully ideal for this approach. If you watch the tutorial video and run the notebooks, you're already at the boundary of new research. Contributing is super easy. Go to our GitHub repo, open it up and start running the code on Google Colab (one click, no local installation required). Use one of the existing notebooks to start your own, commit the changes (via pull request for the first one), and your notebook automatically appears on the website. Dear all, We are happy to announce our FENS satellite symposium "Understanding Neural Circuit Evolution" which will be taking place July 7-8, 2022, in Paris and online. The FENS satellite symposium "Understanding Neural Circuit Evolution" will present exciting lines of research into neural circuit evolution from paleobiology to computational neuroscience and to the molecular and genetic generation of neuro-behavioral diversity.
