Dear colleagues, You are invited to submit a paper to DECIDE 2025 Special Session<https://biostec.scitevents.org/DECIDE.aspx> hosted by the BIOSIGNALS 2025<https://biosignals.scitevents.org/Home.aspx> conference to be held on 20-22 February 2025 in Porto, Portugal Title: Data- and Theory-Driven Approaches in Personalized Brain Medicine: from Diagnosis to Treatment (DECIDE) Scope: Deciding the right diagnosis, the best treatment and predicting the evolution of the disease is of paramount importance in personalized medicine. Diseases are dynamic and very heterogeneous. Etiologies are complex and often several hypotheses are needed to explain their pathogenesis. This is because studies carried out isolate the effects of a single mechanism and not the interaction of many mechanisms. This leads to a set of conflicting results difficult to interpret. Data-driven (ML/DL) and theory driven (Dynamical models) approaches dealing with diverse data are increasingly used in medicine. Bridging the gap between data- and theory-driven approaches is the central theme of the special session. Real progress in personalized medicine can only be made via such cross-disciplinary interactions. Dear colleagues, [All details about this school can be found online at https://www.nengo.ai/summer-school] The Centre for Theoretical Neuroscience at the University of Waterloo is excited to announce our 10th annual Nengo summer school on large-scale brain modelling and neuromorphic computing. This two-week school will teach participants to use the Nengo simulation package to build state-of-the-art cognitive and neural models to run both in simulation and on neuromorphic hardware. Summer school participants will be given on-site access to neuromorphic hardware and will learn to run high-level applications using Nengo! More generally, Nengo provides users with a versatile and powerful environment for designing cognitive and neural systems and has been used to build what is currently the world's largest functional brain model, Spaun, which includes spiking deep learning, reinforcement learning, adaptive motor control, and cognitive control networks. The MAIN MEETING is single-track. A set of invited talks is selected by the Executive Committee, and additional talks and posters are selected by the Program Committee, based on submitted abstracts. The WORKSHOPS feature in-depth discussion of current topics of interest, in a small group setting. Hello! We are happy to announce our new workshop! Organizing scientific events—workshops, summer schools, conferences, symposia—seems like a complex and overwhelming endeavor. You need to design the structure of your event, secure funding, invite guests, promote it, process payments, and contact participants; you need to take care of catering, flights, hotels, and dates. It is a lot, but with a proper approach, some knowledge, and the right people around you, you can organize a successful event even with limited resources. During our workshop, you will learn how to: - design your event, select its target and set goals - secure funding: find sponsors, write grant applications - promote your event on social media and mailing groups - how to approach graphic design - how to contact guests and prepare invitations - how to proceed with funding: event fees, grants, sponsors’ money - how to ensure a good atmosphere - what to do afterward And much more! The event will take place on Thursday, Dec 5th at Nencki Institute, 10 AM – 1 PM. The cost of the workshop is EUR 25. We welcome multidisciplinary workshops that foster collaboration and explore emerging topics. Workshops can include discussions, demos, panels, and more.
