Hi all, A fully-funded, three-year postdoctoral position in theoretical neuroscience is now available at Bocconi University's Department of Computing Sciences in Milan, Italy. The postdoctoral researcher will have the chance to explore various research topics, such as movement modulation of visual responses in mice, integrating connectomes in mechanistic models of brain functions, and building normative models of neural representations, among others. The research will utilize cutting-edge approaches from statistical physics, nonlinear dynamics, and machine learning, and will be informed by the latest electrophysiological and connectomic data. Prior experience with computational neuroscience is a plus, but it is not required. The postdoc will have the opportunity to become a part of the thriving neuroscience, machine learning, and computer science communities at Bocconi University. The Göttingen Campus Institute for Dynamics of Biological Networks (CIDBN)<https://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/608362.html> invites applications for a position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Biophysics (all genders welcome) The position will be full-time (currently 39,8 hours/week), German pay grade 13 TV-L, starting as soon as possible. The CIDBN Department "Physics of Biological Systems", headed by Prof. Fred Wolf, offers a fixed-term contract until June 30, 2025 with the perspective of an extension commensurate with building a competitive track record at the frontier of computational biophysics and neural circuit theory. Information is processed in brain circuits through the coordinated action of large-scale circuits of neurons and synapses. Ultimately, it is the nano-scale molecular architecture of neuronal synapses that can make or break the power of neural circuit computation. Progress in a broad suite of nanoscopy techniques is currently uncovering the molecular-level design of synapses subserving functions such as working memory or sensory coding. The spatio-temporal operation of these nano-machines and the efficiency of their design, however, remain to be understood and are core research aims of the Göttingen Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1286 "Quantitative Synaptology". We are inviting applications from theoretical biophysicists, molecular systems biologists, or computational scientists with an ambition to pioneer computational studies of synaptic functional design. We offer a stimulating environment of theoretical neuroscientists, neural data-scientists, and cutting-edge experimentalists associated with CRC 1286. In addition, the institute provides dedicated support for high-performance computing. We are dedicated to supporting the growth of original research personalities at the frontier of computational science and neural circuit theory. The successful applicant will hold an excellent PhD in physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or equivalent, and have a strong interest in high-performance computing in neuroscience or cellular systems biology. We expect excellent analytical and coding skills, interest in working in a transdisciplinary team as well as excellence in scientific writing and reasoning. Experience in non-equilibrium statistical physics, stochastic dynamics, membrane biophysics, ion-channel and biochemical kinetics, buffered Ca-diffusion, and Ca-exocytosis coupling would be advantageous. Intel Neuromorphic Deep Noise Suppression Challenge The Intel Neuromorphic Deep Noise Suppression Challenge has begun! Here the fundamental computation will be built on temporally sparse event codes to drastically reduce power requirements to be deployed on dedicated HW (expected about 10x-100x savings compared to other dedicated ASICs). Deep Noise Suppression is a ubiquitous real-time audio processing task with low power and imperceptible latency. A neuromorphic solution offering >10x lower power and smaller model sizes could extend battery lives, improve user experiences, and help shrink form factors of many PC/mobile/wearable devices. We are reiterating on the Microsoft Deep Noise suppression re-framing it into *Neuromorphic computing,* offering a novel neuromorphic baseline example improving on SI-SNR and reducing memory footprint by ~20x on previous MSFT DNS 2022 Challenge Baseline. If you can come up with the best algorithmic solution in simulation within six months or the best Loihi 2 demonstration within a year, you could win $15k and $40k respectively. *Call for Applications for CCN Junior Theoretical Neuroscientist Workshop* June 29-30, 2023 The Center for Computational Neuroscience at the Flatiron Institute of the Simons Foundation invites applications for our first Junior Theoretical Neuroscientist Workshop. The Junior Theoretical Neuroscientist’s workshop is a showcase for advanced PhD students and postdocs to share cutting-edge research and connect with the theoretical neuroscience community at the Flatiron Institute and the broader NYC area. We expect to select 8 trainees to participate in the workshop over June 29-30, 2023, at the Flatiron Institute (160 5th Ave, New York, NY), providing an extended opportunity to exchange ideas within a small group setting. Each participant will contribute a 30 minute research talk followed by a 40 minute interactive discussion of the technical details behind the work. Through these interactions and unstructured meeting times, participants will receive valuable feedback from their peers as well as the broader Flatiron community. Talks from senior Flatiron researchers and an external keynote speaker are also planned to broaden the scope of the workshop. Postdoc/PhD positions in Toulouse (France): Deep learning models of the Global Workspace

Multiple postdoctoral and PhD positions are available in an ERC-funded project exploring deep-learning implementations of the Global Workspace theory. We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated students and post-docs to join our group in Toulouse, France. Successful candidates will have formal training in AI, Computer Science or related fields (e.g. computational neuroscience), and a keen interest in cognitive neuroscience. Our ERC Advanced Grant "GLoW" aims to take inspiration from neuroscience and cognitive theories to build deep neural network models of cognition, capable of integrating or "grounding" information across sensory and linguistic modalities, and of displaying flexible cognitive behavior. We will also use advanced AI models to improve the decoding and understanding of brain activity. The project is headed by Rufin VanRullen (CNRS, Toulouse, France), with external advisors Ryota Kanai (Araya, Tokyo, Japan) and Murray Shanahan (ICL/Deepmind, London, UK). Our lab <https://rufinv.github.io/> is part of the CerCo Institute <https://cerco.cnrs.fr/en> as well as the recently created Artificial and Natural Intelligence Toulouse Institute (ANITI) <https://aniti.univ-toulouse.fr/en/>. Our team has many opportunities to collaborate with neuroscientists, computer scientists, linguists, roboticists etc. We have direct access to fMRI recording facilities and to in-house (GPU) computing clusters as well as research-dedicated supercomputers. Typical appointments for post-docs are for 2 years (renewable for a 3rd or 4th year), and 3-years for PhD. The beginning post-doc salary is 2,590 Euros/month (net), and can reach 3,200 Euros/month (net) for more experienced post-docs. The PhD stipend is 2,000 Euros/month (net). We expect to hire several candidates by the Fall of 2023, but will continue to recruit exceptional applicants in the foreseeable future.
