Workshop: Detailed models of brain microcircuit activity and signals in clinical applications July 15, 2026, 9:00am-12:30pm ADT At CNS 2026 conference, Halifax, Canada Speakers: Etay Hay Assistant Professor, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, University of Toronto Heng Kan Yao Postdoc, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, University of Toronto Salvador Dura-Bernal Associate Professor, State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Katharina Duecker Postdoc, Brown University Alexandre Guet-McCreight Postdoc, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, University of Toronto Brain function is mediated by neuronal microcircuits with specific connectivity between neuron types, and it is increasingly evident that altered microcircuitry underlies deficits in brain disorders such as depression and schizophrenia, and in aging and Alzheimer’s. However, our ability to monitor the microcircuitry in living humans is limited, meriting the use of detailed computational simulations to overcome experimental limitations in linking the microcircuit mechanisms with altered cortical activity, functional deficits and biomarkers in clinically-relevant brain signals. This workshop will showcase the latest efforts from leading groups in large-scale neuronal microcircuit modeling of spiking activity and signals such as EEG and MEG. The workshop will present diverse data-driven microcircuit modeling approaches that integrate neuronal, synaptic and functional data, and the different simulation tools used to generate activity and brain signals from the models. The workshop will highlight clinical applications of the models in establishing target mechanisms for treatment, and estimating microcircuit mechanisms from clinical signals in patient data with machine learning to improve diagnosis. This workshop aims to foster the exchange of methods and ideas, and offer new insights on clinical applications of simulated large-scale cortical microcircuits. Dear all, We are pleased to announce a hands-on tutorial on *Multiscale Modeling with MOOSE *at CNS*2025! *Saturday, July 11, 2026, 09:00 AM - 12:00 ADT PM, Room : 505* The objective of this tutorial is to familiarize participants with MOOSE, the Multiscale Object-Oriented Simulation Environment (https://mooseneuro.org) a comprehensive simulation platform designed for computational modeling in neuroscience and systems biology. In addition to tutorials on biophysical and biochemical models, we shall showcase new features of MOOSE, including *JARDESIGNER, *a web-based frontend for multiscale modeling. Students are totally immersed in academic, social, touristic, and cultural activities, which has historically resulted in previous cohorts of students and TAs becoming very close, both personally and scientifically. This is fantastic, as a major goal of the Imbizo project is to help young African researchers grow their academic peer and friend groups. The Role of a TA Academic Responsibilities: (a) Design and run one afternoon tutorial during the first week of the school. Each TA will teach a different topic, chosen collaboratively among the TA team and the Academic Directors, to provide students with broad exposure to methods in computational neuroscience, (b) Supervise a group of approximately 5 students for their project work during the last two weeks of the school, and (c) Assist the organizing committee in processing student applications in early 2027. Social Responsibilities: TAs are integral to the daily life of the school. In addition to academic support, you will be expected to foster good social interactions, spark academic discussions, and help ‘shy’ students meet faculty. TAs act as the ‘social glue’ of the Imbizo, helping to notice and support students who may be feeling ill, having difficulties fitting in, or struggling with the workload. To fulfill these roles, TAs are required to attend all school meals and activities. The A. Mathis Group for Computational Neuroscience and AI (CNAI) is seeking two postdoctoral fellows to join our team working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and neuroscience. Our research is built around three intertwined questions: how to measure and understand behavior with AI, how brains and embodied agents learn to control the body, and how the brain builds a sense of its body through proprioception. We develop widely-used open-source tools (e.g., DeepLabCut), train biomechanically realistic embodied agents (e.g., MuscleMimic, Kinesis, Arnold), and build AI-based models of sensorimotor processing. Postdoc position in the Unit on the Neural Computations in Learning, NIMH

We have an opening for a postdoctoral fellow to join my lab in the Intramural Research Program of the National Institute of Mental Health at the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. Research in the lab is focused on the computational neuroscience of reward prediction and learning. Broadly, we study how timing, inference processes and goal selection modulate learning in reward-guided tasks in animals and humans, and how these processes are supported by neural activity in the reward learning circuits of the brain. Our goal is to understand how reward learning is altered in compulsive behaviors, addiction, and motivational deficits in disorders of mental health. We are looking for a postdoc who will use approaches from dynamical systems theory, reinforcement learning and Bayesian inference to understand how goal-directed behaviors and learning are regulated in neural circuits. The ideal candidate thinks about reward prediction and learning as dynamic processes unfolding in time and across experience, is fluent in both the theoretical and empirical approaches used in systems, behavioral and cognitive neuroscience, and aims to link normative models of behavior to the dynamics of neural populations in the reward learning circuits of the brain. We are a computational group that works with a broad network of collaborating labs spanning rodent, NHP and human studies, and would suit a computational neuroscientist excited to work at the intersection of theory and experiment in an interdisciplinary research environment. Re: vision: a community-driven replication initiative for image-related neuroscience

Dear colleagues, We are excited to announce re:vision, a community-driven initiative for replicating and generalizing findings in image-related neuroscience and we'd love for you to take part. Condition-rich fMRI datasets have transformed how we study visual representations, but they rest on two assumptions: that their stimuli sample natural images broadly, and that findings generalize across that distribution. These assumptions are rarely tested directly. re:vision sets out to change that. The initiative is built on the new LAION-fMRI dataset: densely-sampled 7T fMRI responses to 25,000+ natural images, designed to cover the space of natural images at exceptional scale and diversity. Participants pick a published finding, replicate it using LAION-fMRI, and test whether it holds and generalizes. No new data collection is required, all data, preprocessed betas, and annotations are provided through our Python package. Anyone with an interest in neuroscience can participate in teams of 1 - 3 researchers. From the PI that wants to get their hands dirty again to the master's student looking for a thesis project. We advise that at least one member of your replication team has experience with fMRI analysis. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team in Surrey and Oxford, and with collaborators across the ASAP Collaborative Research Network (CRN), an international, multidisciplinary, multi-institutional network working to address high-priority research questions about Parkinson's disease, supported by ASAP, in partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). The role We are seeking an outstanding Research Fellow to help spearhead research to understand the relationship between EEG-defined oscillations during sleep and excessive sleepiness during the daytime in people living with Parkinson's and to develop and implement neuromodulation approaches to alleviate daytime sleepiness. The project is funded by Aligning Science Across Parkinson's and the William J. Fox Foundation, and will be conducted at the Surrey Sleep Research Centre at the University of Surrey. The research is part of a collaborative effort between researchers at the Universities of Surrey, Oxford, Harvard and Zurich. The successful applicant will, together with other researchers and clinical staff members, be responsible for conducting the clinical research protocol, analyses of EEG and behavioural data, delivering neuromodulation interventions, and preparing publications. Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in Neuroscience or related subject area, have experience in clinical neuroscience research and have excellent data analysis and programming skills. The successful applicant will be an active member of the Surrey Sleep Research Centre, and is expected to collaborate closely with researchers at Oxford, Harvard and Zurich. About you Crucial skills include EEG analysis and programming. Desirable skills are prior experience of working with human participants patients, particularly those with Parkinson's, dementia, or other cognitive disorders, experience in assessing cognitive function using standardised and experimental tasks, conducting non-invasive brain stimulation and/or EEG recording procedures.
