Dear colleagues, we have an open DFG-funded position for 3+2 years for the development of data infrastructure including storage, streaming and analysis tools for reproducible science based on the BIDS standard at our Neuroimaging Unit at University of Oldenburg, Germany. Best regards, Jochem The Neuroimaging Unit and the Applied Cognitive Neuropsychology Lab at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Oldenburg is seeking to fill the position of a *Scientific Software Engineer or Data Scientist (m/f/d)* *(Salary level E13 TVL, 100%)* ** for the development of open and reproducible neuroscience tools and processing pipelines*.* The position is embedded in a DFG Core Facility grant and is available*as soon as possible**until 30^th of September 2023 (with the possibility to extend another 2,5 years after successful evaluation and extension of the project)*. The position is suitable for part-time work. The Neuroimaging Unit hosts a state-of-the-art MEG (Elekta Triux) and an MRI (Siemens Prisma 3T) and is embedded in an excellent interdisciplinary scientific environment with a strong research focus on neurosensory, neurocognitive, and medical research. The successful candidate is expected to actively perform research on and contribute to the implementation of a standardized neuroscience data acquisition, reproducible analysis pipelines and data storage for open science building on the BIDS standard. He/she should further contribute to community efforts and dissemination. Candidates should have a strong motivation to contribute to the community of developers open science tools. The development can include scientific projects, as long as they fit into the research focus of the lab (machine learning in cognitive neuroscience, speech processeing, and human state monitoring) but tool and processing pipeline development comprises the main part of the position. Candidates are expected to have an academic university degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of informatics, engineering, neuroscience or psychology and have shown their ability to perform excellent scientific work, demonstrated by an excellent publication record. Prior experience with the BIDS standard as well as its programming, experience with neuroimaging techniques and data analysis (especially fMRI or MEG/EEG) and fluency in English is required. Experience with open science tools and databases, other neurophysiological modalities, as well as knowledge of German are desirable. This is a self-paced online course for researchers and students who wish to program their own dynamical models using the Brain Dynamics Toolbox (bdtoolbox.org<https://bdtoolbox.org/>). We are very pleased to announce that the Satellite will be host in an hybrid format, welcoming participants both online and in person! The Satellite will last half a day and will take place during the main conference (25th - 29th October, 2021). The exact date and times will be announced soon. Living systems are characterized by the recurrent emergence of patterns: power-laws distributions, long-range correlations and structured self-organization in living matter are the norm, rather than the exception. All these features are also typical of systems poised near a critical point. The great lesson from Physics is that criticality can emerge as a collective behaviour in a many-body system with simple interactions and its characteristics depend only on few details, like the dimensionality or the symmetries. One of the most striking feature of living systems is that they are structured as evolving systems were interactions can turn-on or off, as well as strengthening and weakening, reconfiguring the system connectivity. Thus, by rearranging both the structural and functional topology, living interacting systems may demonstrate unique evolvability, scalability and adaptability properties. Among these systems, the brain is probably one of the most impressively complex and has received a considerable amount of attention in recent years, aided by the vast amount of experimental data available. The idea that the collective behavior of neurons might emerge from a self-organized critical state has been widely studied, from its fundamental mechanisms to its functional advantages, and it poses a fascinating question that is far from being answered. It is of crucial importance to make further steps in the understanding of the main properties that simultaneously confer to these systems high level of adaptability, robustness and optimality. It focuses on the dynamics and learning of perception and behavior on a functional level but is otherwise very diverse, ranging from neurophysiology and psychophysics over computational neuroscience to machine learning and technical applications. There is an open position for a research assistant / Phd-student in the group „Theory of Neural Systems“ of Prof. Dr. Laurenz Wiskott to be filled at 15th of September.
