OKINAWA/OIST COMPUTATIONAL NEUROSCIENCE COURSE 2024 Methods, Neurons, Networks and Behaviors June 17 to July 4, 2024 Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, Japan https://groups.oist.jp/ocnc The aim of the Okinawa/OIST Computational Neuroscience Course is to provide opportunities for young researchers with theoretical backgrounds to learn the latest advances in neuroscience, and for those with experimental backgrounds to have hands-on experience in computational modeling. We invite graduate students and postgraduate researchers to participate in the course, held from June 17th through July 4th, 2024 at an oceanfront seminar house of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University. Applications are through the course web page (https://groups.oist.jp/ocnc) only; January 1 - January 31, 2024. Applicants will receive confirmation of acceptance end of March. Like in preceding years, the 19th OCNC will be a comprehensive three-week course covering single neurons, networks, and behaviors with ample time for student projects. The first week will focus exclusively on methods with hands-on tutorials during the afternoons, while the second and third weeks will have lectures by international and local experts. The course has a strong hands-on component based on student proposed modeling or data analysis projects, which are further refined with the help of a dedicated tutor. Applicants are required to propose their project at the time of application. There is no tuition fee. The sponsor will provide lodging and meals during the course. We hope that this course will be a good opportunity for theoretical and experimental neuroscientists to meet each other and to explore the attractive nature and culture of Okinawa, the southernmost island prefecture of Japan. Final call for the Modellers Workshop for the Brain Dynamics Toolbox. This is an online course is for researchers who wish to build custom dynamical models using the Brain Dynamics Toolbox software. The course focuses on practical programming techniques for the major classes of differential equations (ordinary, partial, delay, stochastic) in computational neuroscience. We are delighted to announce the upcoming "Workshop on Recent Advances in Theoretical Neuroscience" taking place from June 3rd to 7th, 2024, at ICTP in Trieste, Italy. The workshop is addressed to early- and mid-career researchers, and will explore the topics of dynamics, plasticity, and computation in neural circuits. *Program overview* The program is structured around a series of in-depth morning presentations delivered by invited speakers, with an emphasis on both mathematical tools and biological implications. In the afternoons, participants will share their own research through contributed talks and poster presentations. The Barcelona summer school for Advanced Modelling of Behavior (BAMB! <http://www.bambschool.org>) teaches advanced techniques in model-based analysis of behavior (humans and other species) to cognitive and computational neuroscientists at PhD and early career levels. This will be achieved through structured lectures, talks, hands-on tutorials and group projects aimed at making knowledge obtained directly applicable to the participants' own research. We want the trainees to acquire both the conceptual basis and the technical skills that will enable them to pursue a full modelling approach on their own when they come back to their lab. The course is intended for PhD students and postdocs in cognitive, systems, and computational neuroscience with a solid background in computational/quantitative analysis to benefit maximally from the advanced training offered by the course. Proficiency in either Python or Matlab is also required. We seek a nice blend of experimentalists (cognitive psychology / neuroscience) and theoreticians (with or without experience in cognitive modeling). Scientists from underrepresented groups and countries are especially encouraged to apply. Summer Workshop on the Dynamic Brain

A warm invitation to apply to join the Summer Workshop on the Dynamic Brain. This is a computational neuroscience course, centered on student projects that leverage the wealth of Allen Institute data, particularly focused on neurophysiology, population dynamics, behavior, and connectivity data. Co-organized by the Allen Institute and the University of Washington’s Computational Neuroscience Center, the course takes place at UW’s Friday Harbor Laboratory in the San Juan Islands. This 2-week residential program is intended for researchers at the PhD student and postdoctoral level with an interest in developing the intersection of their scientific knowledge and their computational skills. While strong coding skills are not a prerequisite, there is a large emphasis on computation and coding during the course. Applications are due by February 1st, 2024. Dear colleagues I am happy to announce a postdoctoral position at Ghent University, Belgium, aligned with the initiatives of the EBRAINS 2.0 project, funded by the European Commission, with dozens of partners performing top level research across Europe. EBRAINS AISBL is a prominent contributor to the European digital neuroscience research infrastructure ( https://www.ebrains.eu/) Our exciting research program centers around DIGITAL TWIN Brain Models, leveraging neuroimaging data and the power of statistical inference. We aim to enhance scalability and reliability, facilitating the translation of personalized predictive medicine into clinical applications and innovations. Our goal is to seamlessly integrate this workflow into the EBRAINS ecosystem. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of the modeling and simulation framework essential for realizing the Digital Twin vision. More specifically, the selected candidate will contribute to building personalized workflows for biologically and anatomically inspired models for multiple datasets and to exploring different strategies for model inversion (from data to model structure and model parameters), exploiting the range of temporal and spatial scales present in EBRAINS. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the Neural Coding lab and participate in a collaborative research environment.
