The Statistical Neuroscience group headed by Prof. Sonja Grün develops computational methods to analyze the joint activity of neuronal networks, and applies these methods to experimental data in the context of international collaborations using state-of-the-art approaches from neuroinformatics. The group is hiring a Doctoral Student (m/f) to strengthen its international and interdisciplinary team. Your Job: - Conceptualization, development and implementation of a tool and services to capture provenance of advanced workflows for the analysis of electrophysiological neuroscience data from complex, high-dimensional experimental recordings of brain activity. - Implementation of version-controlled, provenance-tracked data/metadata processing and analysis workflows using state-of-the-art technologies along the FAIR principles. - Co-development of data types and object models, metadata schemata, ontologies and software tools to describe results data and provenance information for typical analysis scenarios in neuroscience. - Representing the technology at scientific conferences and courses, to the public, and within the EU Flagship Project “Human Brain Project”. A postdoctoral position is available for working in an NIH BRAIN initiative funded project on the role of the basal ganglia in motor decision making in behaving mice. The project aims to elucidate how subcortical structures feed back onto and influence cortical processing. *Two Postdoctoral Fellows in Computational modeling and Precision Medicine applied to Parkinson’s Disease* We are looking for two highly motivated postdoctoral fellows, for joining the Neuroinformatics for Personalized Medicine lab (NeuroPM) at the Montreal Neurological Institute (McGill University, Montreal, Canada). The postdoctoral fellows will be under the supervision of Professor Yasser Iturria-Medina, and will be expected to collaborate with associated groups (e.g. Integrative Neuroscience Centre, Madrid, Spain). The projects, for 1.5 years and potentially extendable for another year, includes the analysis of multiple imaging modalities and therapeutic interventions in Parkinson’s disease, as well as the application of state-of-the-art brain computational models. A revised electromagnetic theory of the brain

Dear Colleagues, A common dogma of neuroscience is that all electrical events occurring in the brain are well described by an electrostatic theory. However, adopting a geometric attitude it becomes immediately clear that the propagation of an action potential induced a non-conservative electric field within nearby spines, and thus an electromagnetic description of the function of a brain is unavoidable. I would like to present to you with a revised and simplified version of the theory I advanced last year, entitled "Dynamic Aspects of Finite Architectures". This position involves research in the mechanisms and properties of intermittent synchronization in neural and other living systems including collaboration with experimentalists. The position offers excellent interdisciplinary training possibilities in computational neuroscience and mathematical biology. Announcement corrected below to note that doctorates must have been received NO EARLIER than April 1, 2012 (i.e., within the past 6 years, 11 months). --- The Air Force's annual Young Investigator Research Program (YIP) is an excellent way for new principal investigators in the US to accelerate their careers in basic research with three years of funding at up to $150,000 per year. Each year, every AFOSR portfolio can nominate one YIP recipient. Especially since the Cognitive & Computational Neuroscience portfolio is new this year, I wanted to make the neuroscience community aware of this opportunity (and also of the new portfolio). Unlike most of AFOSR's research grants that are open to researchers worldwide, YIP awards are limited to US persons (citizens, nationals, or permanent residents) with full-time, permanent positions at US institutions (by Oct. 1, 2019) who received their doctorates NO EARLIER than April 1, 2012. The application deadline for Fiscal Year 2020 awards is June 3, 2019. Program Description: The Air Force YIP supports scientists and engineers who have received Ph.D. or equivalent degrees within the last seven years and show exceptional ability and promise for conducting basic research. The objectives of this program are: 1. to foster creative basic research in science and engineering; 2. enhance early career development of outstanding young investigators; 3. and increase opportunities for the young investigator to recognize the Air Force mission and related challenges in science and engineering. Eligibility: Individual awards are made to U.S. institutions of higher education, industrial laboratories, or non-profit research organizations where the principal investigator (PI) is employed on a full-time basis and holds a regular position. YIP PIs must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident. Researchers working at a Federally Funded Research and Development Center or DoD Laboratory are not eligible for this competition. Call for SIG and WG meetings in Warsaw, before INCF's Neuroinformatics 2019. Deadline June 1.

Dear all, INCF is calling for community proposals for Special Interest Group (SIG) and Working Group (WG) meetings to be held in Warsaw on 31 August 2019, the day before the INCF Assembly. The call is open both to new and existing INCF SIGs/WGs. *Deadline is June 1st.* INCF is working to make neuroscience more FAIR (Findable, Accessible, interoperable, Reusable), by promoting the creation and uptake of standards and best practices in neuroscience, as applied to tools and infrastructure, and by running a community endorsement process for new and existing standards and best practices. SIGs have an important role in this process, as community-initiated groups where users and developers can meet to align interests, set up working groups and work collaboratively to develop, refine, and implement new community standards and best practices to be proposed for endorsement. The SIGs also serve as the focus for getting agreement and community buy-in on the use of these standards and best practices. SIG meetings in Warsaw should aim to: - investigate the possibility to establish new SIGs (possible activities include: survey for possible members and group activities, draft a plan of activities from community input) - update community members on SIG activities and progress since last year (existing SIGs), invite community input - form Working Groups (possible activities include: general meeting, set deliverables (develop new or extend existing standards and best practices), work on an application for INCF Working Group funding WG meetings in Warsaw should aim to: - update community members on SIG activities and progress since last year (existing WGs), - invite community input, - solicit new members INCF will support both SIGs and Working Groups with meeting logistics at INCF-associated meetings during the upcoming year, as well as offer funding for Working Group activities.
