CompSysBio2025: Advanced Lecture Course on Computational Systems Biology - Aussois (FR), 5-10 October 2025

We are excited to announce the 5th Advanced Lecture Course on Computational Systems Biology which will be held between October 5-10, 2025 ( [ https://project.inria.fr/compsysbio2025/ | https://project.inria.fr/compsysbio2025/ ] ) at Aussois (France). Pre-registrations are open and abstracts may be submitted. The main Course emphasis is methodological. One goal is to illustrate the wealth and diversity of Systems Biology issues for scientists from Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. Another goal is to allow biologists motivated by Systems Biology to go deeper into methodological issues in order to facilitate their contacts with scientists from the formal sciences. Sessions are preferentially organized around methodological issues: multi-scale and spatio-temporal modeling, genetic and molecular networks, dynamical and stochastic systems, machine learning and AI for systems biology, with a constant eye on biological relevance ( [ https://project.inria.fr/compsysbio2025/program/ | https://project.inria.fr/compsysbio2025/program/ ] ). This will be complemented by blackboard teaching and hands-on sessions in parallel classes bearing on specific topics or methods ( [ https://project.inria.fr/compsysbio2025/blackboard-teaching-and-computer-pr… | https://project.inria.fr/compsysbio2025/blackboard-teaching-and-computer-pr… ] ). The conference center is located in a lovely authentic village, Aussois, nestled in the heart of the French National Park of Vanoise, a huge and beautiful natural space where flora and fauna are protected, located in the French Alps. In order to facilitate casual interactions during the conference, there will be time for hiking in the afternoon to discover such wonderful landscape. Participants are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract of their current work to be presented as a poster in order to facilitate scientific interactions. Some abstracts will be selected for short talks by the Scientific Committee. Fellowships are available for students and will be awarded to cover registration fees on the basis of the submitted abstract. Applications of these techniques—to machine vision, speech recognition, autonomous vehicles, natural language, and many other domains—are coming so quickly that many observers predict that the long-elusive goal of “Artificial General Intelligence” (AGI) is within our grasp. However, we still cannot build a machine capable of building a nest, stalking prey, or loading a dishwasher. Dear all, We are hiring a Senior Research Associate in Multiphysics Modeling of Brain Health at the University of Oxford. In this role, you will contribute to our work on predicting brain health outcomes across the lifecycle. The project aims to i) identify physiological manifestations and physics-based biomarkers that allow to differentiate between healthy and accelerated brain aging; ii) create and validate multiphysical constitutive models of cortical tissues degeneration during aging and injury; iii) utilize longitudinal medical image data to infer brain aging and injury mechanisms; and iv) study the potential relationship between exposure to head impacts and the development of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and related dementias later in life. The project will follow two related threads: In a first thread, we will investigate the mathematical relationship between spiking and the diffusion that is common for current generative models. In a second thread, we will investigate the interface between the (binary) spikes and the continuous signals normally required for the generative applications. *Multiscale brain rhythms under healthy and epileptic conditions: computational modeling insights for clinical applications* Neural activity in the brain operates across multiple scales, encompassing both spatial and temporal dynamics. In patients with epilepsy, however, cognitive impairments are often linked to disruptions in these neural mechanisms, particularly through interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs). This project aims to uncover new insights into the link between electrophysiology and attention deficits, one of the most prevalent cognitive impairments in patients with epilepsy, by exploring the role of IEDs. The PhD candidate will develop a comprehensive neocortical population model. The model will be validated on electrophysiological signals recorded in epileptic patients, and its dynamics will be studied to detail the mechanisms of multiple timescale interactions giving rise to healthy and pathological activity. The research project is at the interface between computational, cognitive, and clinical neurosciences. The candidate will preferably have some background in applied mathematics or computational neuroscience/systems biology. Programming skills in Python and knowledge of dynamical systems are required. Knowledge in cognitive neuroscience, electrophysiology and/or EEG analysis would be an asset.
