This includes the use of models or simulations of complex or neuro-inspired artificial systems, the development of machine learning approaches and analysis of complex (neuronal) dynamical systems. The core goal is to unravel the information processing principles of neuro-inspired information processing. I am seeking candidates for fully funded postdoctoral and PhD positions in computational neuroscience at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). The successful candidates will conduct research in my computational laboratory (Institute for Neural Information Processing) at UKE: https://www.uke.de/english/departments-institutes/institutes/department-of-… We will investigate, by developing and using advanced machine learning methods and neural network models, how populations of neurons (and of glia) in the brain encode information and use it to produce behaviors. We offer a wide range of interdisciplinary expertise in computational neuroscience. We also offers a high-quality and well-funded research environment including a network of international experimental collaborators such as Prof. Christopher Harvey at Harvard Medical School, Prof. Tommaso Fellin at IIT Italy, and Prof. Mriganka Sur at MIT. We seek candidates with a solid computational background and a keen interest in neuroscience. They must be highly motivated and creative individuals who want to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment and be willing to interact with both experimental and theoretical neuroscientists. PhD position on multiscale theory of spiking neural networks for modeling human language

As previously announced, a PhD position on spiking neural network theory is available in the group of Prof. Tilo Schwalger at the Technical University Berlin and the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin (https://page.math.tu-berlin.de/~schwalge) Germany. The position is now open for applications. The position is offered in the context of the project The Role of Long-Range Brain Connectivity in Human Language Processing (ConnLingua), a collaboration between the Technical University Berlin, the Max-Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (Leipzig), the Technical University Chemnitz, and the Czech Acedemy of Science (Prague). Within this project, we will use spiking neural network models for cortical microcircuits, models of working memory and advanced mean-field methods to develop a whole-brain model that elucidates the neural mechanisms of syntactic language operations. At the Bernstein center, we offer a structured program guiding doctoral researchers through the PhD work and plenty of opportunities for collaborations. We invite applications for postdoctoral researchers with strong expertise in *in vivo electrophysiology* and *circuit neuroscience *to join our team Neuronal Circuits & Brain Dynamics <http://neuronaldynamics.eu/> at the Paris Brain Institute <https://institutducerveau-icm.org/en/> (ICM). Our project focuses on how neuromodulators (NE, DA, 5-HT, ACh) reshape large-scale circuit dynamics, inter-area communication, and state-dependent reconfiguration across hippocampal, prefrontal, and thalamic networks. Our experiments are designed to generate datasets that constrain mechanistic interpretations. The researcher will lead experimental work combining: - high-density extracellular electrophysiology (such as Neuropixels probes) - neuromodulator readouts (GRAB sensors, fiber photometry) - targeted perturbations (optogenetics, chemogenetics, *in vivo* genome editing) - behavioral paradigms (used to structure internal state transitions) *Required background and mindset* We are looking for an experimentalist with quantitative spirit, deep interest on underlying mechanisms, and hands-on, problem-solving mentality. - Extensive hands-on experience with *in vivo* electrophysiology in rodents (surgeries, recordings, manipulations) - Demonstrated ability to independently run complex experiments - Willingness to modify hardware, software, or analysis pipelines when needed - Comfortable preprocessing own data - Understanding spike sorting, quality control, cell-types, circuit motifs, extracellular signals, data organization, and reproducible pipelines - Data analysis is a core goal, not an afterthought - Interested in multi-region dynamics, state-dependent computation, and neuromodulation - Comfort connecting physiological observations to circuit architecture. - Ability to drive an ambitious experimental project and collaborate with theorists - Optional but valuable: experience with photometry, 1P/2P imaging, or slice electrophysiology We strongly encourage applications from individuals that have been traditionally underrepresented in the sciences. *Responsibilities:* - Design and perform multi-region electrophysiology chronic and acute experiments - Integrate Neuropixels data with simultaneous neuromodulator recordings - Design, implement, and interpret circuit perturbation experiments - Generate multi-modal datasets combining behavior, physiology, and neuromodulation - Collaborate and engage critically with theorists developing multi-level models *Research culture* Research in our lab is driven by the belief that understanding brain function requires *quantitative, mechanistic reasoning** grounded in high-quality physiological data*. RNEL offers a highly collaborative environment where BCI and neurostimulation groups work together with the mission to improve the quality of life of individuals with neurological impairments. The postdoctoral researcher will lead a pioneering research to test the efficacy and safety of already existing neurostimulation techniques such as *spinal cord stimulation and deep brain stimulation to improve motor and cognitive function for children with Cerebral Palsy.* This role involves: - Leading first-in-human clinical trials - Human electrophysiology experiment and computational modeling of neural networks to investigate the neurostimulation mechanisms. The Computational Neuroscience unit (https://www.oist.jp/research/research-units/cnu) at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology has an opening for software developers to contribute to further expansion of our nanoscale simulation package STEPS. Initial duration is two years with option to extend. We have been spearheading the development of efficient computational tools to simulate electrophysiological, molecular and cell biology processes in neurons at the nanoscale (STEPS http://steps.sourceforge.net) The hired postdoctoral researcher or technician is expected to make valuable contributions to the STEPS project by implementing novel techniques for accurate computational modeling and contributing to software maintenance. In performing these tasks, the candidate is expected to co-author publications that are either based on theory and computational techniques, or geared more towards answering real biological questions through computational modeling. As such, the ideal candidate will have a scientific background but also possess excellent programming skills. Competences: For the postdoctoral position a recent PhD is required in a relevant discipline such as computer science, neuroscience, molecular biology, biophysics, biochemistry, and for the technician position a masters degree is required in computer science or related disciplines. For either position, we require a talented programmer with experience in C++ and Python who can work in a team. Ideally, the candidate has some experience of modeling neuronal or other biological processes computationally, but this is not essential if the candidate is motivated to move into the field. Fluent English conversation and writing skills are required. Benefits / Offer: Standard salary and relocation package are offered. Medical insurance and housing allowance are included.
