The postdoc will perform a mathematical analysis of the models, extensive numerical simulations as well as data analysis using neural recordings from our experimental partners. Postdoctoral position in Human Psychophysics for understanding vision with/without Neuroimaging (m/f/d) (TVöD Bund E13, 100%) The Department of Sensory and Sensorimotor Systems (PI Prof. Li Zhaoping) at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics and at the University of Tübingen is currently looking for highly skilled and motivated individuals to work on projects aimed towards understanding visual attentional and perceptual processes using fMRI/MRI, TMS, EEG/MEG, and other relevant methodologies. With cross-disciplinary research and innovative educational programs, CDS is shaping the new field of Data Science. The primary responsibilities will be: - teaching and coordinating three (3) entry- and advanced-level courses for undergraduates- and masters-level students in Data Science during each of the Fall and Spring semesters. Topics of courses might include some subset of: probability and statistics, statistical modeling, causal inference, machine learning, computer vision, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, “big data”, visualization, programming for data science. - training and evaluating teaching assistants - other responsibilities related to the administration of the undergraduate and graduate programs including but not limited to: helping with the administration of admissions to the MSDS, designing and revising curricula when required, advising students on optimal course choices and sequences. These other responsibilities may lead to a reduction in course load. This Clinical Faculty position is not a tenured or tenured-track position. Data Science full-time clinical faculty hold renewable term contracts, initially for one year, and later three to five years in duration. Clinical faculty are eligible for promotion within the Clinical faculty ranks (Assistant, Associate, Full). In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000 - $135,000. Qualifications Applicants must have a strong background in Data Science and a Ph.D. in a related field such as computer science, statistics, quantitative neuroscience, political science, or linguistics and the like as well as experience in and knowledge about undergraduate and graduate teaching, learning, and curricular issues. The CDS Faculty Fellow will be expected to work at the boundaries between the data-science methods and domain sciences. They are also encouraged to develop collaborations with faculty at CDS and NYU. They will lead original research projects of their choosing with impact in one or more scientific domains and in one or more methodological domains (computer science, statistics, and applied mathematics). We seek outstanding interdisciplinary researchers with expertise in the methods of data science possibly with application in physical, life, or social science. The program recognizes that rapid advances in our ability to acquire and generate data are transforming all fields of discovery from data-poor to data-rich. A significant bottleneck to discovery is our ability to perform inference over heterogeneous, noisy, and often massive datasets. Successful candidates will bring a research agenda that can take advantage of the unique intellectual opportunities afforded by NYU, and will have experience in working with researchers across different fields. This is a full-time, non-tenure position, with a light teaching load of one (1) CDS course per year as the primary instructor. You will also be expected to participate in service activities of the Center for Data Science (such as helping review admissions applications, committee work, etc.).
