The successful candidate’s research will involve synergistic collaborations with a multidisciplinary team to investigate brain processes using methodologies such as computational modelling, machine learning and AI. Research to be conducted could, e.g., comprise modelling brain circuits like the olfactory bulb or the cerebellum and simulating and analysing their function. Additional impact could arise in machine learning, AI, data science, neurorobotics and neuromorphic computing. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a programme of research in collaboration with colleagues at UH and partner organisations in the UK and abroad. Leading the preparation and publication of research manuscripts is a key aspect of the role. Contributions to the preparation of research proposals and applications for funding to external bodies, such as the European Commission and the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) are expected. The postholder will create opportunities to maximise research activities, capturing relevant evidence to support impact and engaging with external partners and stakeholders. Skill and experience required * Strong theoretical, computational and programming background in computational modelling and/or machine learning and/or data science and/or AI. * Background and expertise in computational neuroscience (e.g. spiking neural networks, brain function and anatomy, analysis of brain data). * Demonstrated experience to conduct independent research in computational neuroscience or a related field, e.g., through published research papers or monographs. * Applicants must be proficient in both written and oral English * The applicants must be able to work independently and in a structured manner and demonstrate good collaborative skills. Qualifications required • An undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Neuroscience, or a related discipline and a PhD (or expectation that one will soon be awarded) in a relevant discipline. Funded PhD Position - Using cognitive computational models to improve human-robot collaboration

Psychology Discipline and Robotics Institute at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia are offering a fully funded PhD position for interdisciplinary research into using computational models to improve human-robot collaboration. Project description Collaboration between humans and robots is rapidly increasing, creating a need for integrative work between engineering and psychology to improve robots' collaborative skills. One promising approach is to equip robots with cutting-edge cognitive computational models of their human collaborators' decision-making processes. These models would enable robots to account for latent factors guiding human decisions (e.g., beliefs, inferences, preferences, risk, confidence, caution), during collaborative tasks. This could enhance the efficiency of robots' observational learning and allow them to take actions that support and optimise human decision-making, ultimately improving teamwork and productivity. The project will be supervised by Dr Milan Andrejevic, a Lecturer in Psychology, and Dikai Liu, a Distinguished Professor in Robotics from the University of Technology Sydney, and entail a collaboration with Prof. Jakob Hohwy, a Professor in Philosophy from Monash University. Dear colleagues, I have a new PhD position in my group. We seek candidates who are interested in studying the application of machine learning tools in cognitive and neurosciences. we seek to address key gaps in our understanding of the role of gaze-based communication in value-based decision-making in primates, specifically rhesus macaques, red-fronted Lemurs, and humans, using naturalistic, interactive scenarios. The goal is to understand how primates attribute perception to others do, based on their gazes and postures. Our approach to dealing with complex brain and behavior data from these scenarios is to use state-of-the-art machine learning tools to extract interpretable latent dynamics. The research work will be conducted at the German Primate Center; enrollment is possible in one of the PhD programs at the University of Göttingen (see www.gauss.uni-goettingen.de<http://www.gauss.uni-goettingen.de>). The project is highly collaborative and will benefit from working with experts in computer and data sciences, behavioral ecology, and psychology in Göttingen and across Germany. Due to the complexity of the assembly process anomalies can occur, that lead to unplanned downtime and sub-optimal production outcomes. Deviations from normal behavior have diverse causes, ranging from misplacement, heterogeneity in material, to fatigue. Locating such issues in the production line can be difficult and the creation of more intelligent process control strategies and innovative methods of tracking reliability can be achieved with expert informed machine learning techniques, which offer more insight into possible sources of variation, facilitating more proactive quality control.
