*About VVTNS : Created as the World Wide Neuroscience Seminar (WWTNS) in
November 2020 and renamed in homage to Carl van Vreeswijk in Memoriam
(April 20, 2022), its aim is to be a platform to exchange ideas among
theoreticians. Speakers have the occasion to talk about theoretical aspects
of their work which cannot be discussed in a setting where the majority of
the audience consists of experimentalists. The seminars, **held on

Abstract
Modern artificial intelligence (AI) is built upon a relatively small
number of foundational research papers, which have been collected and
republished in this unique 350-page book. The first chapter provides a
summary of the historical roots of AI, and subsequent chapters trace its
development, from Rosenblatt's perceptron in 1958 to one of the early
GPT models in 2019. Each paper is introduced with a commentary on its
historical context and a tutorial-style technical summary. In several
chapters, additional context is provided by the paper's original
author(s). Written in an informal style, with a comprehensive glossary
and tutorial appendices, this book is essential reading for students and
researchers who wish to understand the fundamental building blocks of
modern AI.

1 fully funded PhD position is available in the group of Theoretical and
Cognitive Neuroscience of Ruben Moreno-Bote in the Center for Brain and
Cognition at the University Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain.
We are looking for excellent candidates with Physics, Mathematics or
Machine Learning background interested in developing theory for the brain
and mind. Knowledge of Computational Neuroscience or Neuroscience would be
ideal, but it is not necessary.
The candidate will develop state of the art theory and models of cognition
and intelligence by using neural networks, reinforcement learning, machine
learning, data analysis and multielectrode neural data. The main research
topic of our lab is decision-making, from a multidisciplinary angle.
The candidate will benefit from the stimulating environment of the
Barcelona area in Theoretical and Systems Neuroscience and will have the
opportunity of enjoying a lively city. Our lab
