Dear Scientists, The Göttingen Campus Institute for Dynamics of Biological Networks (CIDBN)<https://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/608362.html> invites applications for a position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Biophysics (all genders welcome) The position will be full-time (currently 39,8 hours/week), German pay grade 13 TV-L, starting as soon as possible. The CIDBN Department "Physics of Biological Systems", headed by Prof. Fred Wolf, offers a fixed-term contract until June 30, 2025 with the perspective of an extension commensurate with building a competitive track record at the frontier of computational biophysics and neural circuit theory. Information is processed in brain circuits through the coordinated action of large-scale circuits of neurons and synapses. Ultimately, it is the nano-scale molecular architecture of neuronal synapses that can make or break the power of neural circuit computation. Progress in a broad suite of nanoscopy techniques is currently uncovering the molecular-level design of synapses subserving functions such as working memory or sensory coding. The spatio-temporal operation of these nano-machines and the efficiency of their design, however, remain to be understood and are core research aims of the Göttingen Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1286 "Quantitative Synaptology"<https://www.sfb1286.de/?lang=en>. We are inviting applications from theoretical biophysicists, molecular systems biologists, or computational scientists with an ambition to pioneer computational studies of synaptic functional design. We offer a stimulating environment of theoretical neuroscientists, neural data-scientists, and cutting-edge experimentalists associated with CRC 1286. In addition, the institute provides dedicated support for high-performance computing. We are dedicated to supporting the growth of original research personalities at the frontier of computational science and neural circuit theory. The successful applicant will hold an excellent PhD in physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or equivalent, and have a strong interest in high-performance computing in neuroscience or cellular systems biology. We expect excellent analytical and coding skills, interest in working in a transdisciplinary team as well as excellence in scientific writing and reasoning. PhD-Researcher and Lecturer, Neurocomputation of Language, Department of Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence, Tilburg University (1.0 fte, six years) The Neurocomputation of Language (NCL) lab from the Department of Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence (CSAI) at Tilburg University invites applications for a 6-year position. The successful applicant for this position would spend 60% of their time as a PhD student and 40% as a lecturer. The PhD project would be determined by the successful applicant and the lab director but should employ advanced statistical modeling and/or neurocomputational modeling to address one or more of the core themes of the lab: the nature and time course of language comprehension, the neural representation and computation of meaning, and the cortical organization of the language network. The educational tasks of the candidate could include leading practical sessions, grading assignments and exams, and (eventually) supervising thesis students. Requirements * Master’s degree in (computational) cognitive (neuro)science, neurobiology of language, or a related field. If you expect to obtain your degree before August 2024, you are also eligible. * Good knowledge of statistics and machine learning (practical experience with large language models is a plus). * Excellent knowledge of English and good academic writing skills. What we offer * A full-time position. * The selected candidate will receive a contract for six years. * You will receive a temporary employment contract for the duration of 12 months. A 5-year extension is offered upon a positive assessment. After one year your UFO profile will change to PhD Candidate / Lecturer. In the second year your initial education assignment is 40% and your research assignment is 60%. * A minimum gross salary of €3226- per month up to a maximum of € 4036- in the 6th year. For the duration of 12 months, you are entitled to a allowance. The amount is the difference in salary of scale 10 level 0 and scale PR level 0. * A holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% (annually). * Researchers from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary (the 30% tax regulation). The University will apply for such an allowance on their behalf. Note that the 30% rule will be scaled back from 1 January 2024. For new applications, during a five-year term, the scheme will gradually decrease to a 10% rule. More specifically, this means that during the first 20 months of the term, 30% of the salary will be reimbursed untaxed. In the next 20 months, this percentage drops to 20% and during the last 20 months, the untaxed reimbursement is 10% of the salary. * Assistance in finding accommodation (for foreign employees). * Benefits such as an options model for terms and conditions of employment and reimbursement of moving expenses, also including excellent technical infrastructure, savings schemes and excellent sports facilities. We will harness a unique large-scale functional anatomy dataset: a combination of electron-microscopy reconstructions at sub-micrometer resolution with two-photon functional imaging of nearly all excitatory neurons in one cubic millimeter of the mouse visual cortex. Postdoctoral position for the development of large-scale electrophysiological data management infrastructure 2-year position: $62,500/year plus benefits (~ total $75,000/year) This salary is guaranteed by a partnership between the Department of Neurosciences (https://neurosciences.umontreal.ca<https://neurosciences.umontreal.ca/>), the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal (https://medecine.umontreal.ca<https://medecine.umontreal.ca/>) and IVADO (https://ivado.ca<https://ivado.ca/>), an interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral research, training and knowledge mobilization consortium whose mission is to develop and promote a robust, reasoning and responsible AI. Requirements: The applicant should hold a PhD (e.g. electrical or biomedical engineering, neurosciences, or complementary field) and have research expertise in system neuroscience, programming, and data processing and analyses. Major advances in electrophysiological recording technologies have led to an explosion in the size of datasets, as well as new challenges in processing and managing them. In particular, the advent of wireless large-scale neurophysiology and deep-learning-based pose estimation enables us to study new scientific questions on complex, unconstrained behaviors. As the pace at which we acquire data has accelerated exponentially in recent years, there is an urgent need for efficient automated pipelines to process raw data from labs into analysis-ready datasets. To address these challenges, several research groups at the department of neuroscience (P. Cisek, N. Dancause, B. Ebitz, A. Green, M. Perich) aim to develop and deploy automated approaches to process signals recorded in our labs into analysis-ready datasets; 2) create a unified data storage and management framework to facilitate data sharing and collaborative, neuro-AI, analyses. These goals are closely aligned with those of the Union Neuroscience et Intelligence artificielle Quebec (UNIQUE; https://www.unique.quebec<https://www.unique.quebec/>) center, the strategic research cluster of the Fonds de Recherche du Quebec - Nature et Technologie (FRQ-NT), IVADO and the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute (Mila; https://mila.quebec<https://mila.quebec/>). The main objective of the present position is to develop and deploy automated approaches to process signals from the labs into analysis-ready datasets. The postdoctoral trainee will design and develop automated processing pipelines, from raw data collected in the labs to analysis-ready state, for each type of data collected. The pipeline must adapt and enhance our current tools implemented in Matlab, R or Python. This includes incorporating automated spike sorting tools such as MountainSort, KiloSort, and Full Binary Pursuit, handling local field potential signals with software like Chronux and FieldTrip, as well as creating user interfaces. The postdoctoral trainee will be responsible for creating Standard Operating Procedures and lead user training. This position is a great opportunity for a postdoctoral trainee seeking training at the intersection of academia and industry. The candidate should have adequate training in disciplines such as engineering, data sciences, machine-learning or neurosciences. PhD position available At the Institute of Advanced Simulation (IAS-6) at the Research Center Juelich a PhD position is available in the field of Computational Neuroscience to investigate cross-area interactions in the visuo-motor pathway of non-human primates during a visually guided motor task. The data are provided by our experimental partners at INT, CNRS, Marseille. Simultaneous electrophysiological recordings by multiple Utah electrode arrays implanted in V1, V2, V4, 7a, DP and M1 will be studied driven by predictions from theory and network modeling to gain a mechanistic understanding of cross-area interaction signatures. Open Ph.D Position in Computational Neuroscience: Neural Representation of Affective States

The Laboratory for Integrative Neuroscience Analyses (LINA), directed by Dr. Christian O’Reilly, is looking to fill an open Ph.D. position in Computational Neuroscience. This position will be fully funded for its first two years by a Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) on an NSF project titled “Neural representation of affective states during narrative listening across the lifespan”. The extension of the funding will depend on grant renewal. The preferred starting date is on May 16th, 2025. The project: This project investigates the representations of affect (valence and arousal) across brain regions and frequencies from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) as a function of age and sex. This project aims to 1) map fMRI activations associated with affect during narrative listening; 2) take advantage of the high temporal resolution of EEG to refine our understanding of the spectral property of affect encoding; 3) develop a model of affect to uncover the mechanisms and causal relationships in the affective neural networks. The students selected for this position will concentrate mostly on the two last aims (EEG analyses and modeling of causal relationships) but will collaborate with the teams on every aspect of the project. As the capital of Oman, Muscat is Oman's largest city with a population of over four million people and numerous tourist attractions. ICICIP2025 aims to provide a high-level international forum for scientists, engineers, and educators to present the state of the art of research and applications in related fields. The conference will feature plenary speeches given by world-renowned scholars, regular sessions with broad coverage, special sessions focusing on popular topics, and post-conference workshops/tutorials in the region. Prospective authors are invited to contribute high-quality papers to ICICIP2025. In addition, proposals for special sessions within the technical scopes of the symposium are solicited. Special sessions, to be organized by internationally recognized experts, aim to bring together researchers in special focused topics. Post Doc in machine learning for biomedical time series and sleep, Aarhus University

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher familiar with machine learning, ideally neural networks implemented with pytorch, to work on unsupervised transfer learning for biomedical time series. In our group, 'Biomedical Machine Learning' (BIML) at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aarhus University, we have recently begun developing a new method for unsupervised transfer learning, which we have been testing on wearable EEG data (we are closely connected with the Center for ear-EEG). The results are very promising, though there exist multiple challenges still before we have realized the method's full potential. We are now looking to fill a 1-year post doc position to continue this work. Work is on-going to secure additional funding for extending the position further. The primary requirement for the candidate is familiarity with deep learning (ideally the pytorch framework), though experience with transfer learning, or EEG data, or sleep monitoring, is a plus. The SAMP lab explores brain organization and experience-dependent plasticity by studying people born blind, deaf, or without hands, using behavioral, computational, and fMRI state-of-the-art analytical techniques. Specifically, the project will test how people born without hands engage the motor hierarchy to perform everyday actions with their feet. A large dataset has already been collected to address these questions, and additional data can be collected. "ser": S(usceptible)E(xcited)R(efractory) model on graphs, a dynamical model of spreading excitations. Code Repository: https://github.com/fabridamicelli/ser As of today, a few people already trust it and the package registers >11K total downloads, ~500/month (pypi.org) and has been used already in a few research projects. The PhD project will investigate how optogenetics can be used for vision restoration therapy to treat blindness. The work will involve multielectrode arrays to record spiking activity from isolated retinas of mice that express light-sensitive ion channels in different cell types of the retina. Furthermore, computational tools will be used for model-driven data analysis and assessment of neural coding under optogenetic stimulation. Prior experience with electrophysiology or computational analyses/computer programming will be considered advantageous for the application. The project is part of the newly founded Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Optogenetic Therapies (https://ekfz.uni-goettingen.de/) and will contribute to bringing optogenetic vision restoration towards clinical trials and patient treatment. Project Description The aim of the main project is to characterize the behavioral and electrophysiological effects of deep-brain stimulation (DBS) in the human entorhinal cortex during the formation of spatial and non-spatial episodic memory. The research will involve: * designing cognitive tasks for investigating the neurophysiological dynamics of mnemonic discrimination; * recording local field potentials and single-unit activity from intracranial electrodes in neurosurgical epilepsy patients during the execution of cognitive tasks; * applying DBS to the entorhinal cortex during the execution of cognitive tasks; * applying existing analysis techniques and developing new ones for understanding how DBS alters mnemonic discrimination; * applying image segmentation techniques on 7-T MRI data to localize intracranial electrodes with high-resolution. Key Responsibilities * Interacting with patients and record intracranial electrophysiological data. * Conduct high-quality research in cognitive electrophysiology and neuroengineering, by validating or disproving current theories about human episodic memory formation and maintenance. * Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, including PhD students, postdocs, medical technicians and doctors. * Present research findings at national and international meetings, and publish results in high-visibility scientific journals. A NIH-funded postdoctoral position is immediately available in Dr. Stéphane Maison’s laboratory in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear – Harvard Medical School. Our research interests focus on identifying biomarkers of a large range of etiologies and their associated disorders including difficulties hearing and communicating in noisy environments, reduced sound level tolerance and tinnitus using a test battery based on behavioral, electrophysiologic, and psychophysical measures. Salary and benefits are consistent with NIH guidelines and institution policies based on applicant’s experience. Highly motivated candidates who recently graduated with a PhD in biomedical engineering, computational biology, hearing science, neuroscience, or other related fields are welcome to apply. The applicant should have strong programming skills (e.g., Matlab, Python), independent and productive. Experience with human testing is preferred but not required.
