A Postdoc or Software Engineer position is available at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center (Brooklyn, New York) to develop and disseminate NetPyNE, a tool for data-driven multiscale modeling of brain circuits. The position is funded by a recently awarded 5-year NIH grant. A postdoctoral position is available in the research group of Gal Mishne in the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute (HDSI) at UC San Diego. This NIH-funded position includes research on multimodal data analysis, manifold representations of neural activity and multiscale modeling of motor learning. The position offers excellent interdisciplinary training possibilities at the intersection of machine learning, applied mathematics and computational neuroscience, and includes collaboration with experimental neuroscientists. A theoretical/computational neuroscience postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Neurophysics and Nonlinear Dynamics group of André Longtin in the physics department and Centre for Neural Dynamics of the University of Ottawa. I am looking for someone trained in nonlinear dynamics and neural modeling, with a background in either physics or mathematics, and perhaps engineering. The work will focus on the dynamics of a population of core recurrent neurons within the hippocampus and their role in temporal and spatial memory. It will involve bridging single cell and network circuitry. The candidate will be involved in theoretical-experimental collaborations with the Profs. Len Maler and Jean-Claude Béïque, and may interact with other theorists and experimentalists in the Centre. Experience with experimental collaborations will be considered an asset. The researcher will join uOttawa’s Brain and Mind Research Institute’s Center for Neural Dynamics. uOttawa’s Neuroscience community is highly dynamic and offers a rich array of collaborative opportunities. A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in the computational neuroscience lab of Carmen Canavier in the School of Medicine, Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. The position is to study cholinergic contributions to hippocampal information processing in close collaboration with electrophysiologist Sonia Gasparini. The successful candidate will construct a morphologically and biophysically realistic model of a hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neuron to explain the observed frequency selectivity of different dendritic regions for slow versus fast gamma band inputs. Some network modeling will also be required for the project. We are hiring! We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to lead the monkey work of the Zero-Noise Lab at the Ernst Strüngmann Institute for Neuroscience in Frankfurt, Germany. The position The Zero-Noise Lab investigates how neuronal population activity unfolds in real time during naturalistic behaviour, and how this compares between mouse and monkey. To this end, we conduct chronic electrophysiological recordings in the visual cortex of macaques and mice, while they are engaged in the same, naturalistic foraging task in a virtual environment. The lab is jointly headed by Marieke Schölvinck and Martha Nari Havenith, and funded by the Max Planck Society. In the lab, postdocs and PhD students focus on experiments in either mouse or monkey, but intensely work together to ensure that we constantly align and mutually learn from experiments across species. We are now looking for a postdoc to lead the monkey side of the lab, while developing their own ideas and research interests. Ideally, we would like you to start in spring 2020. The appointment is for three years initially, with the possibility of extension by another two years; the salary is in accordance with the regulations for academic personnel. Neuromorphic hardware is a modern and active area of research with the aim to design devices for artificial intelligence that are based on the spike-based operation of biological nervous systems. The energy consumption of such systems for example promises to be an order of magnitude less than classical AI systems.
