*Job Title: * *Postdoctoral Associate in Neural Circuits of Learning and Memory* NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are immediately available to study neural circuit mechanisms of learning and memory and their involvements in neurological disorders. Successful candidates will a) design and perform in vivo electrophysiological experiments that record a large number of single neurons in rats performing behavioral tasks, in combination with optogenetic, pharmacological and computational approaches, and b) carry out extensive, in-depth computational analyses of the recorded data and develop of data-driven models of neuronal network dynamics during spatial learning. Experimental position will be based in the laboratory of Dr. Daoyun Ji at Baylor College of Medicine, which conducts high-quality hypothesis-driven research on exciting questions of how specific memory representations are formed, recalled and consolidated, which aspects of memory processing are impaired in neurodegenerative diseases and how they can be rescued at the neural circuit level. Computational and modeling position, focusing on recently developed methods of data analyses, will be based in the laboratory of Dr. Yuri Dabaghian the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Houston, McGovern Medical School. A Ph.D. in basic sciences/engineering or equivalent is required. Candidates with background in neuroscience, physical sciences, mathematics, and/or engineering are encouraged to apply. PILEP +90 is an International Research Project including the University of Braga (Portugal), University of Southern Denmark (Denmark) and Fundación CIEN (Madrid, Spain). The candidate will work in the PILEP +90 project "Application of machine learning to study factors of healthy and pathological aging”, led by Jaime Gómez-Ramírez at Fundación CIEN. The researcher will be affiliated with Big Data Research & Brain Analytics Unit, Area of NeuroImaging at Fundación CIEN. The goal of this project is to use state-of-the-art machine learning to understand human brain aging. In particular, the project will study healthy subjects 90 years or older. For this purpose, the project lead will have access to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), lifestyle, cognitive performance and genetic data of the participants in the study. Fundación CIEN is home to a multidisciplinary community of scientists in neuroscience, with special focus on aging, both healthy and pathological. The researcher will have access to a large MRI dataset collected in the last 8 years and will collaborate with the international partners in the project. Qualifications: Candidates should have university degree in a relevant field (e.g, or computer science, physics, engineering, psychology or mathematics) by the start date. The candidate should have experience in computer programming (Python, Matlab, C) and statistical data analysis. The ideal candidate will have a publication record that includes computational modeling and empirical data analysis and will be interested to apply or be enrolled in a PhD program. The appointment is for one year, the salary is 23.400 euros gross before taxes. The contract includes contributions to the Spanish social Security system, which covers for illness, injuries and accidents at work, unemployment, maternity and paternity leave. This professorship is also particularly suitable for highly qualified early career researchers. The future job holder should be internationally renowned for the investigation of complex brain functions using modern theoretical neuroscientific approaches. In this context, investigations at the systems level using modern approaches from the theoretical and/or computational neurosciences are particularly welcome. Hi, I would like to post the following ad for a post-doctoral position to the computational neuroscience listserv: Position Title Post-doctoral position in human intracranial physiology and human memory Position Description The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke is seeking a full-time post-doctoral position focused on understanding the neural correlates of human memory. This position involves studies focused on analyzing and manipulating human intracranial electrophysiological signals, including single-unit activity, local field potentials, and intracranial EEG (iEEG), captured from participants with drug resistant epilepsy and from participants receiving deep brain stimulation surgery. Post-doctoral fellows will join a laboratory aimed at understanding the neural mechanisms that underlie human episodic memory formation and decision making and at developing novel and innovative techniques to directly communicate with those circuits. We are seeking candidates that are highly creative, motivated, and independent with a Ph.D. in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a related field. Candidates must have a strong research background, with a record of relevant publications. Candidates will be encouraged and expected to participate in independent laboratory research, and will be expected to write scholarly manuscripts. This simulation environment enables the biologically realistic modelling of brain network dynamics using connectome-based approaches across different brain scales. Researchers from different backgrounds can benefit from an integrative software platform including a simulation core written in Python and a supporting framework for data management. BRAIN Theories postdocs to develop history dependent theories across scales.

Two Postdoctoral positions to develop a framework to study history dependent activity across scales and species. The objective of this NIH BRAIN Theories project is to develop a unified theoretical framework to study history dependence across the nervous system. This is based on our previous work on using fractional order differential equations to study reaction diffusion and spiking dynamics in single neurons. In this project, we will further extend our theory to determine variability in cortical neurons, understand the effect of history dependence on network dynamics, coding, and information rates; and will apply our knowledge at the cellular level to predict and understand sensory processing in intact animals. This is an expansive project, with multiple collaborations. The fitting candidates will have the opportunity to interact with laboratories at McGill University, in Canada; Max Planck Institute for Dynamics & Self Organization, in Germany; and the Allen Brain Institute. Your theoretical background could be in dynamical systems, applied math, or computational neuroscience. Having knowledge of fractional order differential equations is a plus, but not required. Technically, you need to know Matlab. Knowledge of python and NEURON are a plus. You have to have a fundamental knowledge of neuroscience or demonstrate a willingness to catch up. The laboratory has all the necessary resources, from high end CPU/GPU servers, to local clusters, and access to the largest supercomputers and cloud services through the Texas Advanced Computer Center and the Chameleon Cloud. The laboratory also offers an interdisciplinary environment where experiments in cerebellar research are combined with computational and theoretical approaches. We just acquired a new multi-photon microscope with spatial light modulation capabilities that will allow us to interrogate the cerebellum in ways not possible before. San Antonio is one of the best places to live in the US. It is one of the most affordable large cities in the country, the weather is mild for most of the year, and you can afford to have a nice life. Official PGENESIS 2.4 release and GENESIS 2.4 Update

I would like to announce the Official Release of PGENESIS 2.4 along with a significant update to GENESIS 2.4. GENESIS is implemented with an object-oriented design that groups related object and command definitions into separately compiled libraries. Parallel GENESIS (PGENESIS) adds a library with a "postmaster" object to the usual usual GENESIS objects and commands. This allows a GENESIS simulation (e. g. a large network model) to be split into many MPI processes that communicate through the postmaster. The November 2014 release of GENESIS 2.4 was intended to be the last packaged GENESIS 2 distribution for download from the GENESIS web site (http://genesis-sim.org/GENESIS) As GENESIS is user-supported, rather than centrally developed, updates to GENESIS and PGENESIS are now obtained from the Repository for Continued Development of the GENESIS 2.4 Neural Simulator (https://github.com/genesis-sim/genesis-2.4) The object-oriented design and organization not only fosters the community development of neural models, but of the simulator itself. This new mutually-developed release of PGENESIS is such an example. As users have continued to contribute new libraries and improvements, there has been an increased use and extension of GENESIS and PGENESIS for its original purpose of realistically modeling cortical networks of multicompartmental neurons on parallel computers. Recent updates to GENESIS and a merge of the GENESIS/PGENESIS development branch from the U.S. Army Research Laboratory have addressed a number of issues in order to increase its scalability for modeling very large networks on high performance computing resources, allowing for models of millions of neurons. These improvements have made it necessary for a new release of a combined package of the May 2019 GENESIS 2.4 Update and the PGENESIS 2.4 Official Release. Information about this release and downloads are available from the GENESIS web site (http://genesis-sim.org/GENESIS) The official release of PGENESIS 2.4 is much improved from the December 2014 preliminary release. Updates of GENESIS since the 2014 release allow the fast "hsolve" solver to be used with new synaptic plasticity models and measurements of cortical field potentials. The efficient delivery of spike events when hsolve is used with large network models results in increases in simulation speed by factors of 10 to 20. This release of PGENESIS 2.4 is also now available for running large-scale network simulations on supercomputers at the Neuroscience Gateway Portal (NSG).
