The Centre for Systems Neuroscience at the University of Leicester, UK, offers a 3-years postdoc position to study single cell recordings in humans – performed in epileptic patients for curative surgery. The project will investigate concept cells (a.k.a. Jennifer Aniston neurons) – that means, neurons in the hippocampus and surrounding areas that selectively fire to specific concepts, like different pictures and the written or spoken name of a particular person (e.g. Quian Quiroga et al, Nature 2005; Quian Quiroga Nature Reviews Neuroscience 2012), which are involved in declarative memory functions. Call For Papers - Frontiers Research Topic: Affective Shared Perception I. Aim and Scope Our perception of the world depends on both sensory inputs and prior knowledge. This applies in general to sensing and has particular implications for affective understanding. Humans adapt their social and affective perception as a function of the current stimulation, of the context, of the history of the interaction, and as of the status of the partner. This influences their behavior, which in turn modifies the social and affective perception of both partners and the evolution of the interaction. Understanding shared perception as part of affective processing will allow us to tackle this problem and to provide the next step towards a real-world affective computing system. The goal of this research topic is to present and discuss new findings, theories, systems, and trends in affective shared perception and computational models. We are interested in collecting interesting and exciting research from researchers on the areas of social cognition, affective computing, and human-robot interaction, including also, but not restricted to specialists in computer and cognitive science, psychologists, neuroscientists, and specialists in bio-inspired solutions. We envision that it will allow us to tackle the existing problems in this area and it will provide the next step towards a real-world affective computing system. II. [Apologize for cross-posting] Dear all, We are seeking an enthusiastic early-career scientist for a research associate position at Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC). The successful candidate will join a collaborative and multidisciplinary research team to work on the neurocognitive mechanisms of human decision-making, integrating multimodal brain imaging (MEG, functional MRI and diffusion MRI) and computational modelling. The post holder will develop computational models that describe data from behavioural and brain imaging experiments, in particular to take a lead role in integrating large-scale computational simulations with imaging results from multiple modalities. The research aims to understand the computational and neurocognitive processes of human decision-making, and how decision deficits may arise due to brain injury or neurodegeneration. The research associate will also be expected to collaborate with other researchers in the team on imaging data analyses and data curation. You will have access to imaging facilities at CUBRIC and several multimodal imaging datasets. Sponsored competition announcement: the Multi-Agent Behavior Challenge

We are excited to announce the Multi-Agent Behavior (MABe) Challenge, a competition to build improved tools for the detection of multi-agent behaviors in neuroscience data! What: A machine learning competition to build supervised behavior classification tools, hosted on AIcrowd. When: The Challenge runs from March 8 2021 - April 30 2021 Where: https://www.aicrowd.com/challenges/multi-agent-behavior-representation-mode… Why: To understand the brain, we must understand how it controls behavior. The study of that behavior has classically relied on manual annotation of large volumes of videos. Automating the behavior annotation process would allow researchers to increase the speed, volume, and objectivity of their experiments, and to investigate new behaviors they otherwise would not have time to study. What's in it for me: the three challenge tasks share a $9000 prize pool sponsored by Northwestern University and Amazon SageMarker. The first 50 submissions to exceed any task baseline by at least 5% will receive $200 in Amazon SageMaker credits (max 2/team). Top performing teams will also be invited to present their work at the Multi-Agent Behavior Workshop at CVPR 2021 in June (workshop details coming soon). The challenge consists of three tasks: 1) develop methods to classify human-defined behaviors from tracked pose trajectories in a large dataset of videos of socially interacting mice, 2) fine-tune classifications to different annotator styles, and 3) learn to recognize new behaviors of interest from limited training examples. Relevant techniques include supervised learning, many-to-one time series modeling, style transfer/transfer learning, few-shot learning, domain-sensitive data augmentation, and unsupervised feature learning/clustering. The Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics (PI Dr. Sean Hill, http://krembilneuroinformatics.ca/) Toronto, is looking to hire a Post-Doctoral Fellow with a strong background in Neuroimaging and Software Engineering. The successful candidate shall spearhead the group's efforts in developing a comprehensive open science platform that captures a range of experimental data, produces a semantic representation that links related scientific content, and provides users with data discovery tools. Working jointly between the Krembil Centre and Radiologics, the successful candidate will be involved cutting-edge development an electronic laboratory notebook platform that enables reproducible human neuroscience workflows. This work will support a global collaborative effort for Accelerating research on Consciousness: An adversarial collaboration to test contradictory predictions of Global Neuronal Workspace and Integrated Information Theory. Led by Dr. Lucia Melloni this project will accelerate research on consciousness by providing decisive, field-transformative evidence in favor of one theory and against the other. It will also establish a groundbreaking model for scientific practices in cognitive neuroscience at large, by demonstrating the impact of team-based adversary research and open data. This will address major riddles in the field, much like established practices in other fields such as physics and genomics have done.
