Dear all, We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join the Translational Imaging Biomarkers Lab at the Institute of Neurosciences (CSIC–UMH, Alicante, Spain), working Dr. Maximilian Eggl and collaborating with Dr. Silvia De Santis. The position is fully funded for 3 years (with possible extension) and has an expected start date in Autumn 2026. Our research combines mathematics, machine learning, neuroimaging, and neuroscience to develop innovative computational tools for understanding brain health and disease. Current research directions include AI-inspired biomarkers of brain structure and function, simulation-based inference, quantitative MRI, computational neuroscience, and mechanistic modelling of biological systems. The successful candidate will join a highly interdisciplinary and international research environment at the interface of neuroscience, mathematics, artificial intelligence, and medical imaging. The exact project will be tailored to the interests and background of the successful candidate. Applicants should have (or be close to obtaining) a Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as applied mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, data science, computational neuroscience, or a related field. Strong programming skills (preferably in Python) and experience with mathematical modelling are required. Experience with machine learning, scientific computing, Bayesian inference, neuroimaging, or computational neuroscience is advantageous but not required. The Institute of Neurosciences (CSIC–UMH) is one of Europe's leading neuroscience research centres, bringing together researchers across molecular, cellular, systems, and computational neuroscience. Located in Alicante on Spain's Mediterranean coast, the institute offers an outstanding research environment together with an excellent quality of life, including year-round sunshine, beaches, and easy access to outdoor activities. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact meggl@umh.es with a CV and a 300 word description of interest. Further information can be found in the following flyer <https://in.umh-csic.es/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Advertisement.pdf>. Please feel free to distribute this announcement to interested students and colleagues.
