Computational neuroscience PhDs at the University of Bristol
PhD applicants wanted for computational neuroscience research in the group of Cian O’Donnell, Dept of Computer Science, University of Bristol. Please forward this mail to any undergraduate or masters students you think may be interested. *** RESEARCH *** Our group uses computational modelling to try to understand synaptic plasticity, learning and memory. We want to understand how brains learn, so study everything from molecular signalling at synapses to learning dynamics in neural circuits. We also have interests in developing analysis tools for neural population data, and in understanding what goes wrong in brain disorders such as Autism. More at: http://www.bris.ac.uk/engineering/people/cian-odonnell. The specific PhD topic will be agreed upon between you and I, depending on your skill set and interests. There will be many opportunities to collaborate with experimental neurobiologists both locally at the excellent Bristol MRC Centre for Synaptic Plasticity (http://www.bris.ac.uk/synaptic/) and internationally with colleagues in Europe, USA and Japan. Candidates should have a strong quantitative background in Computer Science/Physics/Maths/Engineering, although neurobiology students with an enthusiasm for learning computational methods are also encouraged to apply. *** BASIC INFO *** Start date: October 2016 (flexible) Deadline: please apply as soon as possible. Duration: 3-4 years Eligibility requirements: must be EU citizens or have been resident in UK for > 3 years. Further eligibility details: http://www.bris.ac.uk/engineering/departments/computerscience/courses/postgr... *** APPLICATION DETAILS *** To apply please send the following to cian.odonnell@bristol.ac.uk : 1) Your CV 2) Names and contact details of two referees 3) A brief (<1 page) letter highlighting any research experience and explaining why you are interested in neuroscience. If you have any questions or would just like to find out more before applying please feel free to email me anytime.
