OHBM 2023 Educational Course on Whole-Brain Models
Whole-brain, Connectome-based Models of Brain Dynamics: From Principles to Applications OHBM 2023 Montréal, Canada Do you want to learn how to model the human brain as a complex network of interacting regions? Do you want to discover how network science can help you understand the brain's structure, function, and dynamics? If so, join us for this Educational Course on Whole-Brain Network Modelling: Concepts, Methods, and Applications, part of the OHBM 29th Annual Meeting. This course will introduce you to the principles and methods of whole-brain network modelling, a cutting-edge approach that combines data from structural and functional neuroimaging, systems and cognitive neuroscience, dynamical systems and network science, neurology and psychiatry, computational neuroscience, and machine learning. You will learn how to use network models to simulate the brain's activity, explore its emergent properties, and test hypotheses about its mechanisms and disorders, and to lastly build subject-specific models that could be used for personalized mental health care. In the hands-on sessions, you will also have the opportunity to model electroencephalography (EEG), magnetoencephalography (MEG), and blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) data, in projects that are designed to address ongoing critical research questions in computational neuroscience. You will be guided through the material by the instructors and the TAs in learning and performing the modelling and analysis tasks. This course is designed for researchers who have some background in neuroimaging and computational neuroscience, but who want to extend their knowledge and skills in whole-brain network modelling. It will also be useful for anyone who is curious about this exciting and rapidly growing field.
