Doctoral position on AI / ML algorithms for invasive brain-computer interfacing at the University of Vienna
We have an opening for a doctoral position to develop artificial intelligence / machine learning algorithms for invasive brain-computer interfacing (BCI) in the Neuroinformatics Group at the University of Vienna (https://ni.cs.univie.ac.at/). The project's goal is to develop a language BCI based on invasive, single-cell recordings in a human subject. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with Simon Jacob at the Technical University Munich (http://simonjacob.de/). We are looking for an intrinsically motivated student with a Master's (or equivalent) degree in Computer Science, Neural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field. We expect strong competencies in machine learning and programming, as well as a passion for interdisciplinary research in general and learning about the brain in particular. The ability to speak German would be beneficial but is not required. Employment is according to the collective bargaining agreement §48 VwGr. The duration of employment is three years and can be extended to a maximum of four years. The initial contract will be limited to 1.5 years and automatically renewed for another 1.5 years at the end of the 12-month probation period. Job duties involve research as well as teaching (in English or German). The Neuroinformatics Group is part of the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Vienna, the oldest and largest public research university in the German-speaking world (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Vienna). Research in our group focuses on two topics: Causal inference for bridging the gap between neuronal activity and cognition and AI/ML algorithms for brain-computer interfacing.
