Two funded PhD and one postdoc position in theoretical neuroscience at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research
We invite applications for two funded PhD and one postdoctoral research position in our group “Computation in Neural Circuits” at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt, Germany. We use mathematical and computational approaches to study how neurons and the connections between them tune their properties during brain development to ensure appropriate network dynamics, and how adult function and behavior emerge from a diversity of mechanisms. We collaborate with experimental research groups internationally, including the US, UK and the Netherlands, and we will benefit from interactions with the strong neuroscience community in Frankfurt. Successful applicants can work on a range of projects including data analysis, theoretical model development and analytical calculations, numerical simulations, and applications to novel datasets from collaborating labs. Applicants should have a strong quantitative background (in mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, quantitative biology or related fields) and interest in interdisciplinary research. Background in neuroscience and good programming skills are desirable, but not essential. Postdoc candidates must have (or will soon be awarded) a PhD in the relevant quantitative disciplines. The positions can start as early as June 1, 2016. For more information or an informal discussion, contact Dr Julijana Gjorgjieva at gjorgjieva@brandeis.edu To apply for these positions, please submit the following to gjorgjieva@brandeis.edu: 1. A curriculum vitae 2. PhD candidates: a short motivation letter Postdoc candidates: a description of research interests 3. Contact details for 2-3 referees 4. If available, a written sample of scientific research, e.g. a manuscript, thesis, or other work product Our institute also hosts the IMPRS graduate school in “Neural Circuits” which currently has an open call for PhD applicants: http://brain.mpg.de/graduate-studies/call.html Julijana Gjorgjieva Max Planck Institute for Brain Research Max-von-Laue-Str 4 60438 Frankfurt/Main, Germany http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~gjorgjieva/
