POSITION: The group of Matthias Kaschube at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS) in Frankfurt, Germany, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher or doctoral student who will develop and analyze a neural circuit model of mouse visual cortex development. This is for a newly funded joint project with the experimental group of Kenichi Ohki at Kyushu University in Japan. The position will emphasize theoretical and computational work, but an active engagement with neural data analysis is desired. Our aim in this project is to identify the changes in circuitry that underlay the reorganization of visual response properties in mouse visual cortex upon eye opening. The position is available immediately, for up to three years. LAB ENVIRONMENT: The work will be carried out primarily at FIAS, a research institution dedicated to fundamental theoretical research in various areas of science. FIAS hosts state-of-the-art facilities and has tight links to neuroscience centers at the Goethe University, the Max-Planck Institute for Brain Research and the Ernst Strüngmann Institute for Neuroscience. The city of Frankfurt is the hub of one of the most vibrant metropolitan areas in Europe and boasts a rich cultural community. Due to the strong interactive nature of this project, short and long-term visits in Kenichi Ohki’s lab are expected. Applicants must have received training in a relevant quantitative discipline, e.g. physics, computer science, math, computational neuroscience.
