Postdoctoral position in visuomotor control of catching and throwing – Rome, Italy ** A postdoctoral position is available in the group led by Prof. Andrea d’Avella (a.davella@hsantalucia.it) in the Laboratory of Neuromotor Physiology directed by Prof. Francesco Lacquaniti, at the Santa Lucia Foundation in Rome, Italy. The researcher will be involved in ongoing studies performed under the interdisciplinary project CogIMon, funded by the H2020 program of the European Union. The project CogIMon aims at a step change in human-robot interaction, and comprises leading robotics, computational neuroscience, and human motor control European research groups. Research will be focused on investigating strategies for prediction, coordination, and control during interactive human-human and human-robot catching and throwing. Experiments are conducted with real balls in a large motion capture setup and with virtual balls in an immersive multisensory virtual environment where ball impact is rendered with a haptic device, and human and robotic agents are simulated. Applicants should have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline, a real interest in human sensorimotor control, and strong quantitative and programming skills. Experience with collection and analysis of experimental data, psychophysics in virtual environments, computer graphics and avatar animation are valuable assets.
