Our technology work spans the lifetime from early detection and intervention to assistive devices for mobility, communication and cognition. We work across healthcare including Westmead hospital based research in neonatal intensive care, neurodevelopmental clinics, gait laboratories, speech therapy and disability services throughout NSW, Australia and in support of international research projects in this area. We seek to train and engage engineers in the areas of child development and physical and occupational therapies using the emerging technologies of robotics, bionics, virtual reality and machine learning. In this role you will: * facilitate and contribute to the fabrication of functional prototypes and experimental devices with emphasis on reliability and the provision of care * design and fabricate test apparatus, jigs, and other devices in support of the research programs * design electrical circuits, software, user interfaces and machine learning systems as required for achievement of the experimental objectives of the laboratory * participate in the coordination of experimentation (preparation, setup, execution, and post-procedure follow-up) and design experimental protocols * assist in the training, supervision and mentoring of Honours students About you The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Research Engineering Fellow who has: * a PhD or higher degree in a relevant area of engineering such as biomedical engineering, machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer science, statistics, data analytics, applied mathematics or applied physics * experience in human experimental design, familiarity with human ethics, motion and audio signal processing, predictive modelling, statistical methods, and thorough documentation * a demonstrated understanding of the disability sector and goal-directed human centered design thinking approach * experience in Computer Aided Design (CAD), ideally SolidWorks, and a basic working knowledge of electrical circuits, embedded software, user interfaces * an ability to resolve matters that may arise as part of research and the challenges relating to innovation of new ideas and concepts Experience working in the health domain with clinical data and a demonstrated track record of supporting high quality academic publications is highly desirable. This is an academic position, of which the commencement level will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience and knowledge. An appointment at Academic Level A, will hold the title of Postdoctoral Research Associate - Engineering. An appointment at Academic Level B, will hold the title of Research Fellow - Engineering.
