PhD in Bioengineering and Robotics, curriculum ‘Bioengineering and Bioelectronics’. Research Theme: ‘Novel technological approaches for neurorehabilitation’

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student, for joining the team of Dr Michela Chiappalone at Rehab Technologies INAIL-IIT Joint Lab of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), Genova ITALY.

The primary goal of this PhD project consists of developing novel technological approaches for neurorehabilitation, in the framework of national and international projects and collaborations (e.g. IIT network; KUMED at Kansas City, KS USA; University hospitals). Specifically, it will be required to perform experiments and develop novel protocols, based on closed-loop technology, of intracortical electrical stimulation to promote cortico-cortical plasticity in an animal model of focal lesion.

The design of analytical tools for data analysis of multichannel electrohysiological signals will be required as well. To this end, knowledge of programming languages such as Matlab, Python, and/or C is highly considered. Experience in Machine Learning techniques will be considered a plus.

The ideal candidate should hold a degree in biomedical engineering, neuroscience or related disciplines, be a highly motivated and creative individual who wants to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment. Former lab experience and previous technical and scientific results will be highly considered.
