Cross-Frequency Coupling in Brain Networks: Methodological Challenges and Functional Implications
Synchronous activity of oscillating brain networks plays a fundamental role in cognitive functioning. Cross‐frequency coupling (CFC) has been proposed to be the mechanism for interaction of local and global processes and hence to enable the integration
of neural information processing across timescales. We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles to stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the neural correlates of CFC, the methodological and mathematical
prerequisites for reliable detection of CFC in experimental data, and the functional role of CFC in organizing the temporal dynamics of neural computation.
