We invite contributions exploring the connection between sensorimotor interaction, symbolic communication, and language emergence. Interdisciplinary approaches are welcome.

🧠 Workshop Focus

SMILES addresses the gap between low-level sensorimotor interaction and high-level symbolic communication, bringing together researchers working on:

• Sensorimotor learning and developmental robotics
• Emergent communication in multi-agent systems
• Gesture and sequence chunking (motor, vocal, multimodal)
• Symbol grounding and symbol emergence
• Compositional and hierarchical representations for action and language
• Language acquisition and processing in humans and machines
• Temporal dynamics in neural network models
• Enaction, perception-action loops, and active sensing
• Animal communication and comparative models
